Tired of suffering from poor sleep?

Now might be the right time to upgrade to a mattress with advanced pocket spring technology. The new Australian made Swisstek CS by Sleepyhead features the world’s first transitional comfort system. All Swisstek mattresses feature seven dedicated posture zones, so that optimal support is delivered to every part of your body as you sleep. This means that every part of your body is supported in the way it needs, offering exceptional response to your body shape, including targeted support to the lower back. This assists with correct spinal alignment and sleeping posture so you get the rest you need and deserve. At the heart of the Swisstek range is the new Swisstek Comfort System

(SCS), a technology that allows perfect harmony between spring support and spring comfort layers. With two layers of pocketed coils, durability and back support are at their maximum, while partner disturbance and mattress dipping are at an absolute minimum. The SCS also features a new Pillow Base pillow support, with foam where your head and feet rest, for optimal alignment and comfort.

In this mattress Sleepyhead have coated their eco-friendly Dreamfoam with a revolutionary heat management technology called KülKote Silver. This phase change material with silver is infused into the mattress to help regulate body temperature and contribute anti-bacterial properties to the foam.

By limiting the amount of foam comfort layers in this mattress, the SCS has unsurpassed support and durability, with no requirement to flip thanks to the dip-minimising build. You

Get Crafty this Easter

Written by: Lily Jeffries

Crafts are fun for young and old, so why not get creative at home this Easter? We all have spare cardboard, old wrapping paper, gift bags and pieces of ribbon from parties gone by – don’t spend money on new supplies, just get crafty with what you already have! Rope the kids into making some Easter decorations and decorate your home this festive season. Rabbits, chickens, palm leaves, eggs, crosses, carrots, wreathes, flowers – the designs are endless and completely up to you! Homemade bunny ears or rabbit masks are a go-to and can be easily created with paper and coloured markers. Regardless of what you and the kids come up with, your home is sure to be filled with happy Easter spirit this season. Stamps are also a fun way to create homemade decorations. While you could go out to the shops and buy a set of Easter stamps, how about

cutting your symbols and designs into a basic pantry essential – the humble potato! While it is a job for the parents as you’ll have to slice the potato in two and carve an image into it, the kids will absolutely love making their own stamps! Just take care to make sure the stamps end up on the paper and not the walls… Another great creative idea is to make Easter baskets for the egg hunt! Using paper, cardboard, felt, material and plastic containers, there are so many options for creating unique and colourful Easter baskets. Decorate with ribbons, stickers, paint and even the potato stamps made earlier! After they’ve been filled with goodies from the hunt, they can be turned into a handy pencil holder, a jewellery basket, a colourful resting place for a favourite toy, or dismantled and recycled. Depending on the Tasmanian weather, you might be stuck inside over the Easter break. But

never fear - there are plenty of indoor activities to pass the time. An indoor Easter egg hunt is just as good as one outside! You could learn about the history and customs of the Easter holiday and how various countries celebrate it, as there are so many different and interesting Easter traditions. Maybe challenge the family to research why rabbits and chickens are associated with Easter, and where these stories came from. Baking tasty and festive treats is always an entertaining rainy-day activity, especially when there’s chocolate involved. Cupcakes, cookies, sweet and savory snacks – prepare some delicious food for the family to enjoy together on

Easter Sunday. How about building your own rabbit warren? Imagine an inside blanket fort with tunnels made from chairs and tables, or creating little hidey holes for the kids to crawl into and read a book or watch a movie. When it comes to making an organised mess, you’ll be lucky to find a child that isn’t all for it. There are so many activities you can do and things you can create, yet we have to remember what Easter is all about – being thankful for what we have and spending time with those we cherish. Create a home full of life and love this Easter.

Transfer your focus and go with the flow Air flow in a home with a heater is an important issue when it comes to conserving winter warmth.

Tasmanian company Brierley Hose and Handling, based at Derwent Park, manufactures the duct and makes up warm-air transfer kits.

Modern fan-forced heaters can pump out so much heat that, if they are run at full capacity, it can be unbearably hot in that room, while an adjacent room can still be cold.

These kits are an economical, efficient method of quickly transferring excess heat from a solid fuel, electric or gas room heater to another part of the home.

Leaving the connecting door open is not the complete answer because often most of the heat is trapped above the door level and heat transfer can be inefficient. If the home has high ceilings, the convected heat tends to stay up high – well above the floor level where people and pets are looking for warmth.

A duct intake is positioned in the room with the heater and insulated ducting is run through the room cavity to a diffuser in one or more other rooms, such as bedrooms. A dual-bladed German Blauberg inline fan with a five-year warranty pumps the air through the system, forcing it well down into the target room.

The kits come in three models, covering lengths up to three, six and twelve metres. The system is also ideal for exhausting cooking odours and moisture-laden air outside through the eaves or a wall for bathrooms, laundries and kitchens.

Call in to check out the range at Brierley Hose and Handling, 130 Forster St, Invermay or call 6337 8444. In the South of the state go to 1 Lampton Ave, Derwent Park or call 6272 8144.

Why buy another heater, when you can transfer excess heat to other rooms!

Easter Eats

Written by: Lily Jeffries

Easter is fast approaching, and that can mean many different things for all of us. You may be celebrating with the extended family, fasting, visiting Church services or learning about Lent for the first time. Many of us use this time to catch up with our family and friends, spending afternoons baking or preparing Easter lunches, and of course finding ways to keep the kids entertained. Regardless of how you choose to spend it, here are some classic recipes we see hopping into supermarkets around this time of year. It’s tradition to abstain from eating red meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday in the Roman Catholic faith, to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Due to these beliefs, many great fish recipes circulate around Easter time. We’re very fortunate in Tasmania to have access to amazing, fresh seafood, which makes preparing Easter lunches

and dinners as simple as a trip to your local supermarket. Baked salmon with a herb crust, spicy prawns and avocado salad, Thai fish cakes, creamy tuna mornay – there are so many fantastic fish recipes the whole family will love. A great Easter activity is to get everyone in on the cooking! There’s nothing more satisfying than sitting down to a lovely homecooked meal that everyone helped prepare. It’s also a great way to entertain the kids, teaching them to follow recipes, tidy up as you go, and encouraging them to feel proud presenting what they’ve made for the family to enjoy. Homemade hot cross buns are always a good idea – plus there are so many variations with seasonal fruits, nuts and everyone’s favourite: chocolate hot cross buns. You can’t go wrong! Making your own chocolate eggs for the classic Easter egg hunt is also a fun activity. Let the kids be as creative as they please with sprinkles, lollies, nuts and marshmallows.

You can find egg and bunny molds at most homewares stores around Easter time, or just let them create whatever shape they feel – it’s all fun when there’s chocolate involved. Perhaps you’re trying to lessen the sugar intake around this time of year – why not make some delicious carrot cake with lemon cream cheese icing, or some carrot, apple and cinnamon baked cookies? Tasty and nutritious, get baking today! We can’t forget our furry friends

this Easter! Most pet stores stock carob treats and ‘pet candies’ made from natural ingredients. You can also make your own treats with 2 cups of flour, half a cup of oats, a half cup of grated carrot, 1 egg and 1 apple sliced finely. Combine ingredients, roll out and shape with a cookie cutter of your choice, bake at 180 degrees until golden brown, cool and serve. Your dog will love them, guaranteed. There’s something for everyone at Easter time.
