Peter and Sally

Welcome to yet another Kent Ferrari Summer Ball, where we are celebrating 25 years as Kent area organisers for the Ferrari Owners club of Great Britain. supported us over many years, and in turn making our position within the club a most enjoyable and rewarding time. Being able to raise awareness and much needed funds for a number of charities over the years has been a privilege, with this in mind this evening’s chosen charity is ‘Abigail’s Footsteps’, please take a moment to read their page within this programme to see the tremendous work that they do.

Kent Area Group began its existence in 1984 with Roger Collingwood and Keith Warren at the helm, who jointly owned Kent High Performance cars in the village of Sutton Valance. They organised meetings and even a Ferrari factory tour. Due to business commitments Roger and Keith stepped down and in 1990, Roger thought that it would be appropriate to continue to have an active area group for Kent and subsequently nominated me for the position, of which I am proud to be the Area Organiser serving for the past 25 years.

Lastly we must not forget the enormous help that has been given to us through the generosity of a great number of celebrities from motorsport, Music and TV, many of whom have become close friends.

We support all ‘Main Club’ and surrounding area group activities. Our annual area events include Brands Hatch days with hospitality, Motorsport at the Palace, lunchtime meets, and infamous Christmas parties, plus much more.

Enjoy tonight and feel proud that you have helped this charity.

Peter and Sally

Sally and I would like to express our sincere thanks to all club members and sponsors of whom have

Abigail’s Footsteps

Jo and David had two primary objectives when they launched the charity, firstly to improve the bereavement training that midwives and care staff received, and to improve the quality of supportive information that families received if their family suffered a stillbirth.

educating and informing midwives, doctors and all those front line staff who are likely to be the first people to tell mothers that their baby has died, either pre or postnatal. Abigail’s Footsteps has funded training sessions for over 30 Midwives and it has also provided a number of cold cots to various hospitals nationally.

Despite the fact that 17 babies are either stillborn or die a neonatal death (When a baby dies in the first 28 days of life) every single day in the United Kingdom many hospitals are still woefully prepared to deal with this. numerous hospitals have inadequate facilities and equipment and their staff have received no bereavement training. It is the charity’s aim to change this.

In addition, help and advice has been provided by the Charity to the Medway Hospital on the refurbishment of the Bereavement room and we have started work with them on the Bereavement Suite. This will help provide a more sensitive consultation environment for parents who have suffered a loss. The funding and production of a film ‘The Deafening Silence’, a 23 minute video produced for Abigail’s Footsteps telling the story of a Mothers journey as she learns her baby has died and that she is to deliver a stillborn baby, was made at the Medway Hospital. This film has been used to educate midwives and healthcare personnel nationally as well as driving high awareness of the issues facing bereaved parents.

From the purchase of cold cots, to the production of an awareness film through the eyes of a mother whose child is to be stillborn, to the provision of bereavement training for midwives and care staff, to the production of detailed information booklets with advice and guidance from parents who have already suffered the loss of a child, we want to do all we can to try and ease the pain endured by parents and their families during those first days and weeks after losing a child. So far the Charity has helped many bereaved families by concentrating on improving the care and understanding of traumatised mothers, their partners and families. It has achieved this by

Nigel Chiltern-Hunt

FERRARI OWnERS Club Chairman I am one of the original founder members of the Ferrari Owners Club (FOC) and still hold membership Life Member no.1, and raced a Dino and 512BB during the 70’s and have supported FOC track days for the last 35 years. For the past two years I have also been an honorary Judge for Cavallino in the USA. I was appointed to the management committee of the Foc in 2013, the Board of Directors in 2014 and took over from Richard Allen as Chairman in 2015. For Five years I had been the Herts area group organiser of which my wife Shirley has now taken over. Amongst my currently owned Ferraris are an F40 and F50. Our two daughters, Jemma and Christy, already own their own classic Ferraris - so the passion continues.

Area Groups are a very important part of the Ferrari Owners’ Club because they enable Members to have a say in what they would like to do in their local area and meet up with like-minded people on a regular basis. The Area Group Organiser is there to listen to members ideas and where possible organise events that are of particular interest locally. All Members are free to attend whichever area groups they wish. It is very important that by supporting both the ‘Main Club’ and your Area Group Organisers in attending as many events as you can. Your participation will keep the great traditions of the Ferrari Owners’ Club alive and healthy. There are so many wonderful events to attend on a national basis such as track days and our own racing series (either as a participant or a spectator) at some of the finest circuits in England. There are also Dinners, Balls & Picnics at wonderful stately houses. Places and events where not only do you enjoy yourselves but the cars can be seen, appreciated and used in the way they should be. So I would urge you to participate as much as you can as this is your Club. Knowing Peter and Sally as I do, we can all look forward to a fantastic time tonight with great entertainment. The auction and raffle are both in aid of Abigail’s Footsteps, so please give generously in supporting Peter and Sally in this most worthwhile charity.

Cheryl Baker I am so sorry I can’t be with you to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Kent Area Group of the Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain. I am “gigging” with Mike and Jay from Fizz in Bristol. I first became involved with Kent Ferrari back in 1997 when Peter Critchell (who, incidentally, has since become the monkey on my back!) asked me to present a cheque for Kent Air Ambulance, and so began a long relationship fund-raising for various charities with Peter and his lovely wife, Sally, and the ever-benevolent Kent Ferrari. Kent Ferrari has supported so many different charities over its 25 years and I have been involved in several of them, including this evening’s. As Vice President of Abigails Footsteps, I am thrilled that this wonderful charity is the recipient of this year’s Summer Ball. You will no doubt hear and read all about Abigail’s Footsteps this evening and I have seen first-hand the fabulous work they do with every penny raised going to the charity. The Ferrari events are always so much fun and yet there is always shed loads of money raised for the chosen charity. I am truly sorry that I cannot be there to enjoy that wonderful Ferrari hospitality and generosity.

Cheryl feels it is a privilege to help charities whenever possible and is involved with many, especially children’s charities. she is patron of Kent Children’s University, encouraging children to learn and develop outside of school hours. Cheryl had to have IVF to conceive her twin daughters and was happy to talk about it openly, as she felt it could be of some help to other women. Consequently she is patron/ supporter to almost every infertility charity in the UK! She is Patron of The British Wireless for the Blind Fund. She was recently made Vice-President of Abigail’s Footsteps, a charity for bereaved parents of stillborn babies.

Finally, thank you once again, Peter and Sally, for working so hard and raising so much for nothing more than a ‘pat on the back’. You really are special people. Love

Cheryl

She was one of the founders and is a trustee of HEADFIRST, a charity which raises funds for research, equipment and care of people who have suffered brain damage due to accident, stroke or disease. This charity was set up following the horrific coach crash back in 1984 when Cheryl was in Bucks Fizz, where her colleague and dear friend, Mike Nolan, sustained serious head injury resulting in brain damage.
