Welcome to our MMR Spring 2015 Directory Guide #3 Seven years ago MMR began building a Goods & Services Directory of the selected companies we knew could help us all better appreciate our European cars and motorcycles. The directory now list 2,880+ companies supplying 10,000 products in 350 categories. Last fall we introduced this printed guide. It is a sample of the online directory. It introduces good products and services, and hopefully conveys to you why each supplier is worthy of your support. This issue is tinged with more than a little sadness as our dear friend, contributor and mentor, Denise McCluggage, passed away on May sixth. The final pages of the guide are dedicated to her love of life. Peter Bourassa Peter@MMRsite.com (508) 653-2367

The competitive car transport business in America is premised on the fact that most people arrange their own shipping and base their decisions on the only common factor at hand, price. Steve Austin’s Automobilia ART & COLLECTIBLES: MEMORABILIA
Perfect Hindsight. It’s difficult to believe that any 23-year-old artist could capture the ambiance and essence of a moment so perfectly. Especially a moment that occurred 33 years before she was born! Yet Masha’s image of the Monaco pits in 1959 does exactly that! As does her vision of the three Ferrari shark-noses on the Monaco grid two years later. Masha Pasichnyk has a Master’s degree in Fine Arts, is a recognized talent who has developed a unique technique. She has an uncanny ability to convey the drama of a moment we have all seen; McQueen in mid-air from The Great Escape, Moss in the winner’s circle, goggles about his neck. See more at: www.SteveAustinsAutomobilia.com Steve Austin is a motor racing art dealer. He offers originals, giclees and posters by Nicholas Watts, Alfred de la Maria and, of course, Masha.

Autobooks - Aerobooks PUBLICATIONS: BOOKS The three most important things in life are good friends, good books, and first-rate plumbing - Noel Coward Equally important is a good bookkeeper; in our case, bookkeeper extraordinaire, Tina Van Curen of Autobooks-Aerobooks “in Burbank since 1951.” Words and automobiles have driven her life. From her mother she took a love of language and from her father she learned about European cars. Today, Tina and car-fixing husband Chuck own a book store, five Citroens, and three Alfas. Founded in the fifties by a car guy-racer, the store has always been a motorsports activity center. Over time it has grown to include aeronautical books and became Autobooks-Aerobooks. Under Tina’s stewardship, America’s best known auto book store is also online and continues to expand the selection of car, motorcycle and airplane books and videos. If you are in the area, stop by and meet like-minded enthusiasts, possibly attend a book signing, or simply walk the aisles in the company of thousands of your old and potentially new friends. Accusump – Canton Racing Products PARTS & ACCESSORIES: OIL COOLERS
Ah! The Fluttering of Little Red Lights There are two things a Ferrari owner never wants to hear. The first is, “YOU BOUGHT A WHAT?” And the second is, “we have to tear down the engine.” In different ways, both are costly. Despite the fact that the 1978 WASRED 308 carried the required 7 quarts (U.S.) of engine oil, on sharp turns the little red low-oil warning light would still come on. That’s normal! Several years ago we installed an Accusump auxiliary three quart unit. The product description says it all: Offers more pre-oiling and surge protection. You don’t need to be driving a Ferrari to recognize the value of an extra 3 quarts of pressurized oil that can pre-oil your dry engine before ignition. Since installing an Accusump, we have never seen that dreaded red light, the engine doesn’t burn oil, and the oil pressure is always steady. That’s inexpensive piece of mind. Nothing left to fear except... “YOU BOUGHT ANOTHER WHAT?” www.CantonRacingProducts.com www.Accusump.com

Sport Auto by Bill Pollard SPECIALTY SERVICES: ENGINE BUILDERS The Art of Engine Building Today’s auto engines are controlled by computers and built to tolerances that only machines can achieve. If you own a vintage Ferrari, you have a different animal. Because fuel in Europe was expensive, performance cars of the day came in smaller packages that used aluminum wherever possible. Ferrari engine designers Colombo and Lampredi were artisans. They recognized that though lighter aluminum components had less structural rigidity than cast iron and required great care during assembly. Bill Pollard is building a V-12 engine. He explains that two engines accelerate to 8,000 RPM. One engine will accelerate more quickly and effortlessly. This is a result of numerous assemblies and disassemblies to hand scrape the journals in order to attain perfectly uniform clearances. To a layman, the difference is imperceptible; he has no basis for comparison. Bill has. He has built over a hundred Ferrari motors. Introduce your engine to Bill Pollard. You will both feel better. www.SportAutoByBillPollard.com

Richard Ellert AUTOMOBILES: VINTAGE & CLASSIC
For Sale: 1954 Citroen Traction Avant – Be Its Third Owner! French-born Richard Ellert returned to America from 10 difficult years of business consulting in China and in need of a project. Imagine finding a car, iconic in his native country, that had been stored in the desert for 40 years, then stripping it to its frame and building it back up bolt by bolt, nut by nut, until it is actually better than when it left the factory. The original owner had purchased the T/A new in France while working as a civilian engineer for the U.S. Navy. He brought it home with him to California and Richard purchased it from his estate in 2012. Completely restored. Paint and tuning by recognized Citroen experts. EAS - European Auto Solutions SPECIALTY SERVICES: MERCEDES & BMW SERVICE
EAS Offering a New Dimension In the nine years since European Auto Solutions (EAS) opened its doors, Tim, Ed, and Scott have built a loyal base of Mercedes and BMW owners who trust them with the maintenance of their modern and vintage cars. In nine years they have become specialists in finding, assessing and servicing a growing number of 380 - 450 - 560SLs for their customers. In 1971, Mercedes replaced its “pagoda styled 280SL with a new R107 model V8 450SL roadster. Emission and safety standards were changing. Management calculated that Americans were ready for a more powerful, comfortable and safer car. This became the Mercedes sports model until 1989. Today, well-preserved survivors are hard to find and the market for them is appreciating. EAS recently became a licensed dealer and with the help of luxury car specialist, Paul Downey, is specializing in the sale of 380 - 450 - 560SLs. Looking for a powerful, comfortable, and safe vintage GT car? EAS has a substantial inventory of R107s from which to choose. Visit them at www.VirtualEAS.com or call 781-642-0667

Suixtil USA
B PERSONAL GEAR: APPAREL
A Private Handshake Among Those Who Know Long before we owned the clothes, the Suixtil story owned us. Once upon a time, Grand Prix racing was a sport. Automobile manufacturers raced against each other in noisy battles across the European landscape. The drivers, all famous, were sportsmen and national heroes. Postwar Europe was besotted with Grand Prix racing and its daring young pilots. Suixtil seized the opportunity. Driving for Ferrari, Maserati, and Mercedes, Argentine drivers Fangio and Gonzales introduced stylish blue driving suits to the drivers and Suixtil casual wear to the remainder of the Grand Prix paddock. Media images and stories brought Suixtil’s distinctive logo to the consciousness of a reawakening Europe. Suixtil won five world championships and having made their point, went home. As it did in the day, Suixtil clothing confers upon the wearer a sense of style, confidence, and comfort. *Brescia shirt, Silverstone jacket, and Original Race Pants as shown

Several months ago we received a single white page in the mail. It contained a note of apology by the author of Alice in Wonderland to a young friend. I read it and smiled. It has loitered about on my desk ever since. Every once in a while I pick it up, read it and smile again. A little whimsy in one’s life is really not a bad thing, is it? Dub this… A Whimsy Break. pb How to Apologize for Standing Someone Up My dear Annie: This is indeed dreadful. You have no idea of the grief I am in while I write. I am obliged to use an umbrella to keep the tears from running down on to the paper. Did you come yesterday to be photographed? And were you very angry? Why wasn’t I there? Well the fact was this — I went out for a walk with Bibkins, my dear friend Bibkins — we went many miles from Oxford — fifty — a hundred, say. As we were crossing a field full of sheep, a thought crossed my mind, and I said solemnly, “Dobkins, what o’clock is it?” “Three,” said Fipkins, surprised at my manner. Tears ran down my cheeks. “It is the HOUR,” I said. “Tell me, tell me, Hopkins, what day is it?” “Why, Monday, of course,” said Lupkins. “Then it is the DAY!” I groaned. I wept. I screamed. The sheep crowded round me, and rubbed their affectionate noses against mine. “Mopkins!” I said, “you are my oldest friend. Do not deceive me, Nupkins! What year is this?” “Well, I think it’s 1867,” said Pipkins. “Then it’s the YEAR!” I screamed, so loud that Tapkins fainted. It was all over: I was brought home, in a cart, attended by the faithful Wopkins, in several pieces. When I have recovered a little from the shock, and have been to the seaside for a few months, I will call and arrange another day for photographing. I am too weak to write this myself, so Zupkins is writing it for me. Your miserable friend, Lewis Carroll

Evans Cooling Systems
Having owned British cars and American hot rods in the sixties, we have had more than our share of events involving overheating engines and hot splashing coolant hitting the pavement at our feet. Engines have traditionally been cooled either by air or by a mixture of water and ethyl glycol. Systems are pressurized to raise the boiling point (3 degrees per pound of pressure) and that constitutes a “safe margin” between the operating temperature and the boiling point. The boiling point of Evans Waterless Engine Coolant is 375 degrees. That is a 150 degree safety margin! It means the cooling system needn’t be pressurized at all!
PARTS & ACCESSORIES: RADIATORS
Prepare to be Astounded
Unlike water, Evans Waterless Engine Coolants do not have a corrosive effect on the metals of the cooling system. This alone should make it worth your investment. Collector Jay Leno has used Evans Waterless Engine Coolant in his classic cars for over 16 years and tells a great story in his video on the home page of the website.

Whether it is a slightly weathered BF Goodrich sign or a once neglected Fyre Drop Gas pump, Chuck is equally excited to share their histories with collectors. Chuck Harders pumps grace many a collector’s garage and while he is best known for the preserved and restored gas pumps and vintage signs, his offering is far from limited to Americana. Montrose Trailers PARTS & ACCESSORIES: TRAILERS - AUTOMOBILE - MOTORCYCLE
Backbone Counts In 1971 Gary Palinsky, an employee of GM’s Engineering Department, was shopping for a utility trailer. He couldn’t find what he wanted so he designed and built his own. A neighbor saw it, liked it and offered Gary more than he could refuse. Montrose Trailers was born.
The Montrose Trailer design concept has never changed: • A strong light frame is the backbone of every unit. • The integrity of the structure must never be dependent on its walls and roof. • The overall strength of the frame dictates the safe performance of the trailer. It also permits aerodynamic changes that cut fuel costs and multiple accesses that make it more usable. • A lifetime guarantee. If you are destined to own two, your second one will be a Montrose Trailer. www.MontroseTrailers.com

Hamilton, the leader, is also looking in his mirror to determine exactly when he must commit. Too soon; contact. Too late; loss of position. • It hasn’t occurred to you just how much talent is required to transfer a heartbeat in time to canvas. • Or that the ice colored racing cars are set in the blast furnace heat that envelops them. • You are not aware that Bill Patterson is a world famous motorsports artist. Michlmayr PERSONAL GEAR: WATCHES
About Time. People who enjoy expensive cars often also enjoy expensive watches. The following is a cautionary tale about an issue that has recently come to our attention and a company that offers a solution. Two valuable watches, returned for routine cleaning or service, were reported “lost” by their repair facility. The initial settlement offers by the repair facility’s insurance companies never attempted to compensate for their historic or sentimental value. Since the watches were not in their possession at the time of the loss, their owner’s insurance company is not liable. Michlmayr Clock & Watchmakers are based in the UK; only a Fed-Ex shipment away. Established in 1958, they sell and restore watches and can provide vintage watch valuations. They also manufacture watches. Before you embark on your next watch adventure, a brief conversation with Simon Michlmayr may be helpful. From the USA: 01144-1603-403687 www.Michlmayr.com

The Finish Line – Chapal – Bell USA
It could be successfully argued that in the evolution of motorsports safety equipment, nothing had a more significant impact (excuse the pun) than the introduction of the Bell 500TX helmet. The 1960s saw huge advances in safety equipment; Improved belts, seats and Nomex driving suits made a difference, but it was the Bell 500TX that revolutionized racing headwear. It was safer, far more comfortable, and attractive. Images of Clark, Hill, Gurney, and Foyt, their faces framed by Bell helmets, are indelibly etched in our racing memories.

eEuroparts.com PARTS & ACCESSORIES: PORSCHE, BMW, MERCEDES-BENZ PARTS AND ACCESSORIES
The Ever Changing Replacement Market At the beginning of the 20th century, owning an automobile was synonymous with rare and expensive. Repairs were done by the factory, and occasionally by local blacksmiths. By mid-century, the parts supply chain evolved, and repair work had shifted to dealers and independent repair shops. In the eighties, the number of owners doing work on their vehicles grew enough to have the segment earn its own acronym: DIY, Do-It-Yourselfers! By the nineties, computerized engine, drivetrain, and suspension systems came about, deterring all but the most talented (and best equipped) DIYers. Now in the 21st century, vehicles are designed and sold with more complete assemblies and modules, rather than small individual components. Competitively priced assemblies and kits have simplified the replacement process, and as such the requirement of many special tools. DIYers are back! NOW! eEuroparts.com, your online center for European OE and aftermarket replacement parts, introduces eEuro Assemblies. These pre-assembled spring strut assemblies are made with the best OE and aftermarket parts and assembled in-house, for a variety of vehicles. Call our customer service department at 800-467-9769 to realize how eEuroparts can help you save hundreds on once costly repairs. www.eEuroparts.com

O.D.D. Parts Fabrication SPECIALTY SERVICES: FABRICATION - CUSTOM
Why change a failed part for its identical replacement? Early automotive switches were made of brass and wood. Eventually they were replaced by Bakelite, and then by the less brittle modern plastics we know today. In the 70s Vitalone supplied the handsome and complex multi-function switches used in “modern Ferraris. But with age the plastic shrank, cracked and the switches failed. Jim Simpson reconstitutes these switches with a plastic called Methyl Methacrylate. A new product developed for the medical industry to make prosthetic attachments to bones. He also reinforces the critical axis fulcrum areas by spot-welding a steel wire underlayment. Ergo, a far better mousetrap. He has made over 800 of these switches. Valued reader, Time is valuable and we thank you for spending yours with us. The goal of this Directory Guide is to edify and entertain in the hope that you will favor our listing companies with your support. In the end, this book is all about people. The people who make the products, the people who sell and in some cases install them, and the fellow enthusiasts, with whom we enjoy them. In this, our third issue, we have introduced to you a fraction of the 2800+ companies in our online Goods & Services Directory at www.MMrsite.com. We hope you enjoyed it. Dream wildly, drive safely, Peter Bourassa Publisher
Denise was a remarkable woman. Everyone I knew loved her. She was quick in a race car, tremendously bright, consistently funny, and always positive. She was also unfailingly kind and epitomized what our mothers told us growing up: “If you don’t have anything nice to say about someone, don’t say anything at all.” These qualities made her both respected and beloved. We will all miss her terribly. A good example of Denise in her creative element was one of the numerous conversations we had about two books she hoped to produce (her busy schedule meant neither happened). One was a collection of her photographs, predominately racing personalities and cars of the fifties and early sixties in lush Kodachrome. The other was to be a sequel to her compilation, By Brooks too Broad for Leaping. That title impressed me as a lovely image—poetic and evocative. I asked her about its origin, assuming she appropriated it from 19th century literature. I was chuffed to learn that it was indeed from a 19th century poem she had studied in school by A.E. Housman. I never ceased to be amazed by the breadth of her knowledge and the use she made of it. David Bull
