Briefings from the Minnesota Builders Exchange Volume 15 | Issue 3 | Fall/Winter 2021

From the Board President As we wind down toward the end of the year, we have much to be appreciative of as an organization. First of all, on October 14th, a good time was had by all at Golden Valley Country Club as we celebrated MBEX’s first Fall Social event in 2 years! We are excited that over 150 attendees turned out for the evening to socialize and network with each other. It certainly felt nice to get back to some semblance of normalcy with in-person gatherings. Secondly, we are proud to announce that the St. Cloud Builders Exchange, much like the Duluth Builders Exchange before it, voted to merge with the Minnesota Builders Exchange, effective as of November 1st. This merger will create the largest and most robust Builders Exchange in the Midwest.

MBEX will continue it’s mission to offer great plan room services, social events, and networking opportunities for the construction industry in the Twin Cities, Duluth and now St. Cloud. I strongly believe that this newest merger will allow for greater opportunities for all members involved in the Exchange whether they are active in construction, associate members or members of the design industry. Thank you, MBEX members, for the honor of serving as President in 2021. It was an experience of a lifetime being able to serve with such distinguished Board of Directors and staff. Let's all work hard together to keep MBEX moving forward.

- Erik Molin MBEX Board President

2013

The Builders Group: Cross Border Coverage & NurseCare Line As a member-owned work comp fund, TBG was built for the trades, by the trades, which is why they continue to successfully develop products and services unique to the trades like Cross Border Coverage and the NurseCare Line. TBG’s Cross Border Coverage gives members a surprisingly affordable way to add other states coverage to their existing work comp plan when work takes them outside of Minnesota. Without Cross Border Coverage, employers could end up self-insuring work comp claims that arise from out-of-state work. The NurseCare Line puts expert nurse care in the palm of every workers’ hands, which in 40% of reported injuries has prevented a trip to the clinic. Plus, the skilled nurse staff is able to efficiently direct those who need it to the appropriate providers for their injuries. These tools are just a couple of examples of TBG’s commitment to answering the needs of their members in the trades and helping them work safer, smarter and more profitably. Other services like Pay-As-You-Go premiums, compassionate claims handling and their industry leading Safety Services team who provide members hands-on training in their training center and mobile training room, have always been the foundation of TBG. TBG continues to prove their commitment to making workers’ comp work for their members by proactively looking for ways to help them do business safer and smarter. Stay tuned for some exciting new member resources coming soon. Visit tbgmn.com to learn more about TBG's offered services, including Cross Border Coverage and NurseCare Line.

The 2022 Directory will be mailed to all member companies in Spring 2022. Watch the website for further details.

SCBX + MBEX Merger Passed

For 47 years, Sharon Fiscus has provided service to thousands of MBEX members both in the office and online. She started working at the former Minneapolis Builders Exchange in November 1974, and her last day at MBEX was August 31, 2021. We wish Sharon the very best as she begins this new chapter in her life, and we thank her for her dedication and commitment to excellence with her contibutions to MBEX and the construction industry.

Members of the St. Cloud Builders Exchange (SCBX) and the Minnesota Builders Exchange (MBEX) voted on October 21 in favor of the merging of the two organizations. The nearunanimous decision paved the way for an effective merger date of November 1, 2021. On that date, active members of SCBX became MBEX members for a complimentary trial period of 60 days. Terms of the merger call for MBEX to continue operating two physical Plan Rooms in Minneapolis and Duluth, expanding social events to include the St. Cloud area, access to the MBEX Online Plan Room, and two special-term MBEX Board seats offered to former SCBX Board members. The approval of this merger marks the third time MBEX has expanded its membership and services to the regional commercial construction industry. In 2013, the Builders Exchange of St. Paul merged with the Minneapolis Builders Exchange to form MBEX. The Duluth Builders Exchange also merged with MBEX in 2019.
