Where to Find Subleases for the Summer Graham Peterson
Whether you’re looking for a sublet, or looking for a place to stay, subleasing can be stressful. Luckily, there are an array of resources designed to help the process be as smooth as possible.
Sublet.com Sublet is a dedicated hub for tenants to make listings for housing temporary accommodations. Tenants are able to include property details such asW bedrooms, bathrooms, rent, roommates, and of course lease details. If you’re looking to sublease, you can also refine your search to a specific location, or housing accommodation. This site makes the process very streamlined and straightforward with a well designed interface.
Facebook Facebook –specifically class Facebook groups – is a great place to communicate not only with potential roommates, but also with potential sublets. There are also other groups outside of the UMN community that are dedicated to this. This is a great platform to get a feel of their personality, and also communicate with them 1 on 1 to provide information regarding the listing. Plus, more often than not, people will post a listing if they’re looking for an arrangement so all it takes is a little bit of scrolling.
So if you’re still looking for housing accommodations for the Summer, don’t worry! These sources got you covered.

BIG TIME RUSH
LORD HURON
They’re back. For the first time in over a decade Big Time Rush is on tour. Their Nickelodeon show Big Time Rush is a fond memory for many Gen Z’s and millennials alike. What’s better is that in the show, the group is from Minnesota so this show is guaranteed to be a special one.
On August 12, Surly Brewing Co is hosting Lord Huron at the Surly Brewing Festival Field, a lineup that has seen the likes of many great indie artists in the past such as Phoebe Bridgers and the Decemberists. Promoted by First Ave, there are a range of other concerts at this location so be sure to check their website for more information!
EARTH, WIND, AND FIRE Want to experience the 70’s? Earth, Wind and Fire is on tour once again. The mentioned artists are just a taste of what Minneapolis has to offer this summer in terms of music. With a little research, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find whatever your heart (and ears) desire.

SUMMER CLASSES MN Daily MEDIA
2022 Summer Preview Guide 11
Hannah Poor
The University of Minnesota has a multitude of summer courses, but something to keep an eye out for these classes is the dates and deadlines as they are different from your semesterly ones. Registration for the summer semester opens on February 24, 2022 and the semester starts on June 6, 2022. While summer session is one of your options for summer classes you can also take May session courses and those begin on May 16, 2022 and go until June 3, 2022. Summer session goes from June 6, 2022 until either July 29th or August 12th depending on whether it is an 8-week course or a 13-week course. You can find your liberal art requirements and classes to fulfill them on schedule builder. If you use the filter function schedule builder can also help you find which classes double dip (cover multiple liberal arts requirements) and classes given in certain modes (hybrid, virtual, asynchronous, etc.). Other resources you can utilize for summer courses as well as other semesters are Gopher Grades and Rate My Professor. I am sure a lot of you have heard of one or both of these, but they are great to see how your professor runs class. For example, whether it is a
test or project heavy course, if they work well with students, or if they are more focused on research than teaching. You can utilize Gopher Grades to see what the average GPA received from that course is and if that varies depending on the professor. They have also recently added a feature that shows you what requirements a course can fulfill along with the name, course number, and credit count. These tools can be incredibly helpful when picking summer classes because people often have different experiences for better or worse when a course is condensed into the summer session.

STATE FAIR Hannah Poor
The Minnesota State Fair will be from Thursday, August 25th to Monday, September 5th Labor Day. The State Fair grounds are 322 acres that over the 12 days of the fair have over 2 million people walk across them. At the state fair there are a multitude of ways to be entertained, enjoy food, go shopping, see animals, and even participate in competitions and events.
THE GRANDSTAND Events that are highly anticipated are the Grandstand stage performers that headline and open at the State Fair. This year’s line up is not fully announced yet, but four shows have already been confirmed. The first show being 93X Presents Alice In Chains and Breaking Benjamin with special guests Bush. They are performing on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 5:30pm and ticket prices start as low as $36. The Zac Brown Band: Out In The Middle Tour with special guest Robert Randolph Band will be performing on Friday, September 2nd at 7pm. Diana Ross with special guest Naturally 7 will be performing on Saturday, September 3rd at 7pm. The Grandstand, while known for their music, also has comedians. This year’s first announced comedian is Jim Gaffigan on ‘The Fun Tour’. You
may know him from ‘13 going on 30’, ‘17 again’, or ‘That 70’s Show’. These four people are just the headliners that have been released, but the Grandstand hosts around 900 shows during the fair.
THE FOOD FARE That number of shows is telling of how large this fair is and it doesn’t stop at the shows, the fair is also well known for their food as they feature over 300 vendors offering over 500 menu items, including at least 80 that are on sticks. Some of the most infamous vendors include, Sweet Martha’s Cookies, Mouse Trap Cheese Curds, and Pronto Pups. Sweet Martha’s Cookies is known for their fresh out of the oven warm bucket of cookies and due to the amount of cookies people buy at once they have to make about 200,000 cookies an hour to stay caught up.
A popular way to enjoy the cookies is with a cup of fresh milk. You will often see people walk down the street with their cookies to the dairy building where you can get “All-You-CanDrink” milk for only $2 a cup. The dairy building has a handful of treats from ice cream to frozen yogurt and while you stand in line you can take a look at the butter sculptures of city ambassador princesses. Recently, the woman who had been doing princesses’ sculptures for over 50 years retired. The dairy building also has animals attached to it so you can go through all of the agricultural information for the area and see the best livestock and household pets. There are very adorable bunnies, cows, pigs, and chicks. These animals will often compete for different titles like best looking or largest, but they also compete in races.
MACHINERY HILL If you leave the dairy and agricultural area and walk up the hill to the Giant Slide you will see what is affectionately known as Machinery Hill and everything to the north of the grounds. You can buy all kinds of lawn equipment, hot tubs, and even industrial level machinery like bobcats and tractors. If you don’t know a lot about machinery there are many opportunities to learn at different stands and booths along the road. You can keep walking for what feels like miles along the main roads of the fair and never get bored. There is so much to do and see that you will be able to fill your day with fun things and find something to do for everyone in your group. If you decide to go to ‘The Great Minnesota Get Together” you can buy tickets already online.
