The name LUNA itself represents two meanings based on the owners’ philosophies. “We all live, love and feast under the same moon and luna means moon in Spanish,” says Jo. “The acronym LUNA also represents our dedication to remaining Local, Unrefined, Natural and Authentic.” At two locations — one on the Alameda in San Jose and at the Pruneyard in Campbell — LUNA chefs cook with intention and put their heart into every dish. They take no shortcuts, which is obvious in the pure joy that guests experience when tasting their signature masa, made using an ancestral method of nixtamalization that involves soaking the grains in alkaline overnight for the best flavor and nutrition. LUNA also offers vegan, vegetarian or other diet-specific variations of their beloved meals, all of which are made from recipes that are rich with Mexican history. Their catering platters are ideal for family events, business events and school or community gatherings.
