ARTIST STATEMENT: Pamela Sukhum’s paintings are inspired by her deep love of nature. Whether sitting in a cathedral of trees in the forest, getting lost in a world of vasculature on a single leaf, immersing oneself in the silky coolness water on summer day or in gazing across infinite skies at dawn, we are afforded the opportunity each day to be transported into a reality beyond concepts and ideology, bringing us back to the very truth of ourselves. It is Pamela’s wish to share this sense of discovery, joy and awe with others through her works as visual hymns in praise of nature.

Pamela Sukhum: Hymns to Nature — 3 Pamela Sukhum’s paintings are characterized by rich colors, textures and warm radiant energy. Her use of both broad sweeping lines and delicate intricate details give her work a depth and dimension truly unique in the art world. Pamela’s art is fueled by spiritual and human connections forged during her journeys around the globe, from the monasteries of Tibet to refugee camps in FormerlyAfrica. a researcher in Cardiovascular Health and Electrophysiology, Pamela left the biomedical field in 2003 to pursue her true passion: Painting. With barely enough money in hand for the first month’s rent, she moved into her downtown Minneapolis studio space to begin her new journey. Years later, Pamela works from her studios in Colorado, Minneapolis and Thailand. Her paintings are featured in prominent fine art galleries in North America, Canada and Dubai, both reigniting the fire of seasoned art connoisseurs and sparking a new generation of fine art collectors. Among other honors, she was awarded the prestigious Director’s Choice Award at Art Expo New York.

Pamela Sukhum: Hymns to Nature — 87 Pamela Sukhum Spirit Sky 1 Mixed media 20” x $2,40010”Thispiece was inspired by a trek through rural Tibet. In the rugged mountains, away from technology and modern ways, I found myself falling in love with the wide-open space of the land and the deep, intimate connection with people with whom I did not even speak the same language. After returning home to modern life, I found myself missing that utter stillness found both in the land, sky and people of rural Tibet. But often, as I allowed myself to slow down, hints of that open space would reveal themselves wherever I was. It was a reminder that the vastness and feeling of freedom in gazing into the open sky at 15,000 feet or into another soul’s eyes always was something that could be found within, like a hidden treasure I had carried all these years, but had forgotten. This piece celebrates that divine and infinite space that lives within each and every one of us just waiting to be reclaimed and experienced in the fullness of life.

Pamela Sukhum: Hymns to Nature — 111 Pamela Sukhum Waiting 1 Limited Edition Print on Canvas 24” x $1,20024”Thepiece was inspired by a midnight walk around one of my favorite lakes during a full moon. The night was so silent, and in that stillness, I kept thinking that something was about to happen. As I stood there waiting for something to happen, I looked around and noticed the fullness of the beauty surrounding me — the shimmering leaves in the moonlight, the gentle bend of the reeds in their reed bed and the glow of the moon across the water. We spend so much of our busy lives waiting. We find ourselves waiting in traffic, waiting in line or waiting for that email or some outcome. And in all of that, we can forget the richness of life that is available to us in the right here and now. This painting became a reminder to take a step back while we find ourselves “waiting” and to take in the fullness of life that’s available to us in every moment.
