___about meintje and architecture_______________ Who am I? Who is Meintje?

WHO’S THAT GIRL

I’m someone who ‘does and decide’ by Mister Kolb (learning style test)

I have a good imagination by the Mirrortest: What can I?

I have a lot of ambition, ideas, sincerity and modesty by Mirrortest: How do I?

I’m someone that finished, designed and like to work in a group by Mister Belbin (team role test) I’m a motivated person who wants to perform by the Mirrortest : What I want?

I have personal fascination linked to research into practical implementation by my minor coordinator. I’m ‘over-motivated’ by a classmate. I’m fanatic and driven by my father. I’m a hard worker, liberal minded and on discovery to my future by my mother. I’m inquisitive, looking for new adventures and developments, motivated and ‘out of the box’ minded by myself. Being me and may being me is what me makes Meintje!

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ As a student you have a vision about your future and your career. For me it was always important to develop, to experiment, to challenge myself and to go for it! Studying gives the possibility to create your own you, to try and learn as much as possible. Some things fail and will get better next time, with other things it goes much better than you expected. Studying is pushing yourself to another, new level without getting pressed by commercial aspects, what happens in the working field. A couple of years ago I was studying engineering. As the only girl, surrounded by technical minded boys, I gasped for architecture. Now and then, we were designing. But most of the time I spent on constructive calculations, technical solutions, building physical capabilities and making models, scale 1:1 or 1:2. Tables, stairs, window frames, details of structural connections, all made by wood. A great experience but after four years I was happy to start with my bachelor Architecture. Analyzing all kinds of typologies and areas. From traditional city centres to modern CIAM thinking neighborhoods. Criticize about; what is architecture with a capital A? And of course designing, more designing and designing again. Good times! In 2007 I worked in the big metropolis New York City. Everything was going fast, size XL and full of impulses. Two years later I was developing social housing projects for poor people, living in the slums (favelas) of Rio de Janeiro. In this ‘tranquillo’, very bureaucratic city, it was great to see how creative people think to find solutions for things that for us (West Europeans) are the most normal things in the world. Amsterdam, where I am living now, is a great city with interesting architecture and cultural movements. It’s time for something new; new impulses, new experiences, a new study, new work. And all the other aspects I hope to discover. This new step changes my social position. I’m going to be an architect in the future. As an architect you create peoples living environment, you organise a little of their lives. You’re not only creating a physical world, also a mental world. For doing this, as an architect, I want to have a full confidence in my ability. What kind of architect will I be? What are my guidelines? What are my quotes and what do I want to convey to the users of my building? You can have a lot of philosophies about these theoretical questions. But I’m not a thinker. I say let’s do it and develop, experiment, dare myself to get these answers for myself. Then I’m not only an architect on paper, but an architect in real life. This portfolio gives a review of the path that I’m following.....
