The client's aspiration was to redesign their home to host people often especially during the summer. This inspired them to rethink the spatial arrangement within their home, opting for the complete removal of the existing kitchen into an old sewing room on the other side of the adjacent wall, adding a barbecue and external fireplace and storage, lastly, changing the existing laundry into a butler's pantry for easy access as it would be behind the proposed kitchen.

SUBI PARK 04

Subiaco 2021|BAS300/305

THE ARCHITECTURE OF DELIGHT

Delight the concept was inspired by the context of Subiaco. Delight is birthed from the fusion of subiaco’s culture and the growing trajectory of Perth. The aim is to create spaces of authenticity which offer long term residents the opportunity to partner with the old and new culture of Subiaco and assimilate easier into Subiaco and Perth.

SITE CONTEXT AND CONCEPT

Movement

Significant pedestrian travel along the roads of many boutique stores such as Rockeby Rd

Small roads and dense boutique stores along Rokeby Rd makes travelling by foot a desired choice.

Vacant Land

Vacant land allows for economic growth opportunities and a populous suburb making high density living an appropiate living solution for the housing demand.

Connectivity

Pop-up events along hidden laneways are slowly reviving connections and potential hot spots among subiaco residents and visitors.

Homes

Various housing styles depicts Subiaco’s historical timeline.

Green Space

Mueller park caters to every person, it is a great place for fitness, fresh air and connecting with locals.

Heat intensifies around noon and glaring when sun is in the west sufficient shading devices should be implemented to reduce glare & exposure.

Northern living spaces to maximise in daylight especially in winter with potential use of louvres

PHOTOGRAPHY

Ambient glass etchings radiates with warmth when met with the sun.

Extensive and exposed structural frame intergrated as design feature, enabling various, thin structural elements to exude a sense of elegance.

The contrast of a bright imposing building seeping through the dim laneways of Perth business district.
