The memorialaim is to projecta sorrowfulmelancholicfeelingonthe visitors,toexploretheconsequences ofouractionsasaspecies,andtothe roleofredemptionandprotectionin the face ofcatastrophic events.It servesasacautionarytaleaboutthe dangers of playing with forces beyond our control and the importanceofpreservinginnocence inaworldmarkedbydestruction.
The aim is achieved through the infusion of mystery into the experience -concept.Thisinvolves embarkingonamysteriousjourney, beginning with entry through a concealed bunker,descending a 1 km dimlylittunnelunderground,and culminating in arrival at the observatory room. Here, visitors witness the guardians - towering blackcloths,sevenmetersinheight, billowing in the wind caused by pressure differentials - within the vastcrater ofthe largestnuclear experiment, experiment,measuring 500 meters indiameterand100metersindepth.
