The 4th session brings the summer to an exciting conclusion with an energizing excursion and even some tearful goodbyes. Note: The 4th session does not include the overnight or canoeing. This camp is connected to afternoon Extended Camp.
One big adventure waiting to happen! Nestled in the woods above Lake Needwood, this camp is in the perfect woodland setting. ADA Accomodations Montgomery County Government is committed to complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). As a result, children and teens with disabilities may register for the most appropriate programs for their age, needs, and skill level. There are two options: Therapeutic Recreation camps specifically designed for individuals with disabilities or inclusion in general recreation programs. If your child needs auxiliary aids or services in order to participate (such as a companion, ASL or cued speech interpreter, or large print), please call a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to discuss your child’s needs (240-777-6870). If your child has a Special Education placement at school, a volunteer companion to work one-on-one may enhance his or her experience at camp. Since placements are limited, registration and requests for companions must be made at least 3 weeks before the start of the program. Companions may not be available every session. Program Locations are listed on page 35.

Teen Service Learning Opportunities (continued) ÂŽSummer Leadership Challenge (SLC) NEW
Junior Counselor Program
New for 2011! Summer Leadership Challenge is a service learning program for teens who enjoy helping children learn and have fun in a safe environment. The program offers fun, interactive workshops, games and activities designed to prepare teens to volunteer and/or work in a camp environment. Workshops may include child development, safety, conflict resolution, body language, planning and leading games, and therapeutic recreation awareness. Participants will have opportunities to plan activities and practice their new skills with campers in an MCRD camp or Summer Fun Center. Summer Leadership Challenge staff will provide instruction, support, supervision and feedback to help participants have a positive experience. No prior experience or training is necessary. This service learning opportunity replaces the CIT program for new volunteers. (Returning CITs are eligible to register for the Junior Counselor Program!) Up to 20 teens can register per session. Participants may earn up to 35 SSL hours per session.
If you served as a Counselor-inTraining, Mainstream Companion or TR Camp Assistant last year, you are eligible to serve as a Junior Counselor. Experienced, qualified returning CITs are valued members of MCRD’s Camp Teams. Work alongside our great Camp and Summer Fun Center staff to help all of our participants have a safe and exciting summer. Only two Junior Counselors per session will be placed at each program, unless otherwise noted. Participants may only register for two sessions and must commit for the entire session.
