One account is all you need to register for summer camps and programs offered by Montgomery Parks and Montgomery County Recreation!

Q: Can I still use ParkPASS (for Montgomery Parks) or RecWeb (for the Recreation Department)?

A: Nope. ActiveMONTGOMERY.org replaces both of

these. Now there's one system and one website for all your Recreation Department and Montgomery Parks activity registrations, rentals and memberships.

Q: What credit cards can I use online? A: You can use your Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards on ActiveMONTGOMERY.

Q: What will ActiveMONTGOMERY charges look like on my credit card statement?

A: If you used a credit card to register for a course,

buy something at a facility, book a facility, or purchase a membership with Montgomery Parks or the Recreation Department on or after August 17, 2015, here’s what you’ll see on your credit card statement: “ACT*Regist” or “ACT*ACTIVE MONTGOMERY”

Q: Can I keep a credit card number on ﬁle? A: Yes, you can store a credit card number online with ActiveMONTGOMERY. The number is not visible to anyone but you.

Q: Can I withdraw from a camp online? A: Yes! You may withdraw online from a camp and get

a full refund with no withdrawal fee as long as you withdraw on ActiveMONTGOMERY.org at least two weeks before the camp begins. Please see page 68 in this Summer Camp Guide for more information. Refunds and withdrawal policies are different for regular (non-camp) activities.

Q: What’s with the “WISH LIST”? A: If you see an upcoming class or program that

looks interesting, but you’re not sure if it works with your schedule, add it to your ActiveMONTGOMERY “Wish List.” When you log back in, you can register for the class, or delete it from the list. Adding a class to your wish list does not register you for the class.

WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT SUMMER CAMP! Montgomery County Recreation offers a wide variety of exciting summer programs throughout the county with an emphasis on safety, convenience, affordability, and most of allâ&#x20AC;ŚFUN! We offer over 150 summer programs that are designed to appeal to a variety of campers. With such a large range of programming, experienced and innovative staff, there is something for everyone!

HOW TO REGISTER There are four ways to register: online, fax, mail in, walk in. Full details and payment information is listed on page 68 of this guide. If you need additional help, please call our Customer Service Desk at 240-777-6840.

To secure a space for your child, we encourage early registration! Enrollment is limited to ensure each camper receives a high quality camp experience. 4

COUPONS AND DISCOUNTS Early Bird coupon: Receive $25 off when you register for selected programs before March 15th. RecAssist Scholarships: RecAssist funds are available to county Residents who are receiving assistance from other Montgomery County agencies. Visit our website at montgomerycountymd.gov/rec for more information. RecAssist funds cannot be used to pay camp materials fees.

As a result, children and teens with disabilities may register for the most appropriate programs for their age, needs, and skill level. There are two options: Therapeutic Recreation camps specifically designed for individuals with disabilities or inclusion in general recreation programs. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SUMMER CAMP 1. I mailed/faxed in my registration…when will I hear something? You will receive a Registration confirmation OR a Waitlist confirmation via email after your registration is processed. Please make sure your email address is current in our system 2. I registered online, will I get a receipt? If you registered online, you should have printed your confirmation/receipt. If you need help to reprint that information, please contact our Customer Service Desk at 249-777-6840. 3. Do I need to complete additional forms? Yes. Each camper must have a completed Camper health and Information Form, a Camper Code of Conduct, and an Authorization for Medication (if applicable). You may find these forms on our website at www. montomerycountymd.gov/rec/. All campers must have completed forms on file at the camp location in order to attend. 4. What can I expect the first day? On the first day of camp your child will meet the staff, may be assigned a counselor and receive a newsletter of planned activities and field trips. Please bring a nonperishable peanut free lunch, a snack, and plenty of drink to stay hydrated. 5. What does a typical day look like? Each camp is unique but follows similar schedules. Swim and field trips may vary depending on the camp. Please see the program specific pages for more details! For more information call 240.777.6840

6. What can you tell me about the staff/counselors/instructors? Camp staff are carefully screened and selected for their activity skills, level of enthusiasm, ability to work well with children, and good judgment. Training is provided on safety procedures and expected conduct, as well as program planning and implementation. By state law, all staff undergoes background checks. All camp directors are over 21 years of age 7. What should I send to camp with my child? Have your child wear comfortable clothing for active play, and wear close toed shoes. Pack a nutritious lunch that is nonperishable and includes plenty of liquids. Label everything! Leave money, toys, electronics, and valuables at home. 8. Can my child bring electronics? Unless required as part of the program, we do not encourage electronics at camp. We are not responsible for the loss or theft of electronic devices. 9. Is there air conditioning at the camp locations?Air conditioning may not be available at all locations. Sports camps, outdoor camps, park sites and school gyms are usually not air conditioned.

11. What happens if I need to drop off my child late, or pick him/ her up early? No problem. Please contact the camp director to let him/her know your plans. Be sure to check the program newsletter for field trip days and times that may impact your drop off plans. 12. I am running late. What should I do? Please contact the camp director as soon as you or your authorized pick up person will be late. We do charge a $10 per child late fee for each fifteen minutes (or portion of fifteen minutes) after the designated pick up time. 13. Can my child walk home from camp? If you would like your child to walk home, you will need to complete and submit the Walker’s Permission slip to the Director of each affected summer program. 14. Request for information for Child Care Spending Report: Receipts for out of school programs for tax purposes are available to you through your ActiveMontgomery account. The Recreation Department’s Federal Tax Identification number is 52-6000980

10. I know locations sometimes change…how will I be notified? You will be notified via email and a phone call. Please be sure we have your most current and correct contact information.

PRESCHOOL & KINDERGARTEN CAMPS Led by professionals, these programs offer an ideal blend of challenging and imaginative activities in a supportive and nurturing environment. Play, socialize and discover! Children must be toilet trained by the start of the program. No transportation is provided. Parent participation is not required, however, parents may stay based on their childâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s needs. Programs will not meet on Monday, July 4.

WONDERS FRIENDSHIP CAMP

ABRAKADOODLE: PIRATE ISLAND

Ages 4 - 5: Wonders Friendship Camp is a playbased camp that focuses on social-emotional learning and community building. Campers will experience fun-filled days that incorporate cooperative games, arts and crafts, dramatic play and storytelling. Our camp counselors are skilled professionals who understand children and know how to make summer camp fun! Camps are half-day and campers need to bring a bag lunch. Morning snack is provided. Children must be 4 years old and toilet trained by the start of camp. Extended day camp is not available for Wonders Friendship Camp.

Ages 3 - 5: Ahoy all Mateys! Come aboard as we travel to Pirate Island where we'll find treasure chests, sandy beaches, colorful parrots and lots of fun! Our Mateys will use their imagination to create pirate ships, sand castles, treasure maps, sea monster puppets and ship flags to be used in our games and high seas adventures. CHALLENGER SPORTS BRITISH SOCCER - LIONS

Ages 3 - 5: Brought to you by the C.A.R.E. Actor (creative awareness responsive education) program, comes alive as we act out storybooks and make our own costumes and props using a variety of art materials! In this camp, students will experience how the theater arts and fine arts go hand in hand while discussing topics such as respect, kindness, and peace through storybooks. So, each day the Tiny and Gourmet Chef campers will be presented with a basket with 3 or 4 ingredients, which reflect these different cuisines French, Italian, Mexican, Asian and All-American. JUDO FUN CAMP Ages 7 - 12: This program, coached by a French Judo instructor. Judo is a martial art from Japan. Coach Frederic has been teaching Judo to students around the world for over 25 years. While teaching disciplines such as politeness, respect, self control and concentration students will also learn the complex forms of the martial art known as Judo. This martial arts program will teach and train students on the proper technique, muscular development, calisthenics, stretching, joint rotation, exercises, endurance training, sparring and sparring related drills. AQUA SPORTS CAMPS This camp has it all-swimming, diving, trampoline, soccer, kickball, crafts and games! Campers should be able to swim 25 yards and must be comfortable in water that exceeds their height. Campers must come equipped with shorts, T-shirt and tennis shoes or athletic-type shoes. Campers should bring a non-perishable lunch, pair of athletic socks, swim suit, towel, goggles and sunscreen. YOUNG REMBRANDTS SPACE AND OCEAN LIFE - FULL DAY

Ages 6 - 12: It's all about scale in this creative camp that will delight kids as they create art that challenges dimensions - from enormous to miniature. Our creative ideas flow as we create cool globes inspired by the cool globe project that is touring the world. We learn about saving our planet and creating awe-inspiring art. We learn about glass sculpture and Dale Chihuly who creates masterpieces with glass and color. We'll make both a gigantic sculpture and small sculptures using recycled products. We'll be making murals, geometric sculptures and much more! Ages 6 - 12: Fun filled days await our students as we explore ocean life as they learn to draw and color with pastels. We will create detailed, pastel compositions on each day, focusing on a different ocean-themed subject. We will draw eye catching sea stars along the shoreline and a pair of vibrant clown fish. We will illustrate a sea turtle with bold patterns, a blue crab and a wondrous scene of jellyfish. Our instruction will bring remarkable results! You will want to head to the frame shop with your child's finished pastel pieces. These pastel drawings will reward students with a great sense of pride and accomplishment. In addition to pastel drawings, the students will learn some cartooning techniques while exploring the blue sea!

Ages 6 - 12: Join Young Rembrandts as we travel to the farthest reaches of the galaxy and the deepest depths of the ocean in this all day camp. In the morning, futuristic scenes of other worldly adventures highlight the spectacular drawings our students will produce. In the afternoon, they explore ocean life as they learn to draw and color with pastels and learn some cartooning techniques. Get ready for a fun filled week of exploration!

OUTDOOR CAMPS Give your child an unforgettable summer experience by choosing an outdoor exploration camp. Campers have the chance to gain an appreciation for the natural environment and develop outdoor skills. Campers must bring their lunch. HORSEBACK RIDING Ages 8 - 14: Children will ride twice a day 4 times per week, swim every day, and do various unmounted horse activities including leading horses, unsaddling, grooming, bathing, cleaning tack, plus general barn responsibilities. There is no riding on Thursdays (horse's much deserved day off), but the kids will have unmounted horse activities and have the opportunity to play 'Camp Game,' a traditional favorite. HOW TO TAME YOUR KAYAK Ages 13 - 18: Are you ready for daily adventures canoeing, kayaking and more? Then you have found the right fit! This camp encourages personal development, team building and self reflection through a variety of exciting and physically demanding outdoor activities. The camp will be in a wilderness setting and will go rain or shine. This program is structured to provide an inclusive environment for individuals with ADD/ADHD, ED as well as participants without disabilities. Campers will learn to flip their kayak and wet exit, do t-rescues and start to learn to roll their kayaks. We will learn basic strokes and deep water rescues. Campers must be able to paddle their own kayak in increasingly challenging environments that may include class 1-2 white water, open bays with wind and waves. Session one will primarily be in white water kayaks. Session two will primarily be in sea kayaks. Campers must be able to pass a swim test on the first day of camp. CAPITAL ULTIMATE CAMP

Ages 8 - 13: Swoop, bang, swish! These sounds and more will fill the air in this fun, sports-themed camp. Campers will build their knowledge and skills of a variety of sports including basketball, gym hockey, soccer, flag football, and more. Games and special group activities make this camp fun for everyone. This camp is sure to keep campers on the move as they learn about teamwork, competition, sportsmanship, and having fun. Athletes of all skill levels are welcome. Campers swim at a MCR pool twice per week and have a field trip each session. Each camper must bring a bag lunch. Onsite morning and afternoon extended care is available for an additional fee.

Ages 10 - 15: Capital Ultimate Frisbee Camp is a fun alternative for kids that want an active camp but are tired of the same old sports. Ultimate Frisbee is a growing, fast paced game that combines skills used in sports like soccer, football and basketball. Campers new to Frisbee will learn the fundamentals: catching, throwing backhand, forehand, etc. More experienced players will sharpen and extend those skills, plus learn defensive skills, field positioning and more. Every Camper gets a disc, a microfiber athletic shirt, and a CUC hat. We provide a daily snack but campers bring their own lunch.

ONE-ON-ONE MULTI-SPORT CAMP

Ages 8-16: Full day Ages 8-16: Half Day. The Tetra Brazil Academy provides players with authentic Brazilian coaching right in their own community. The Tetra Brazil curriculum has been designed by our professional coaches to provide players with the same expert level of training received by professional clubs in Brazil. The Brazilian style is evident from the first minute of the first day during the warm up which was all about rhythm and coordination. Skill training is still a primary element, but it is combined with a heavy emphasis on tactical understanding. Fun, mastery of advanced skills and game tactics are given special attention. Camp days are designed to promote learning of techniques and skills focusing on the youngeraged individual players. UK ELITE SOCCER TRAVEL PLAYER Ages 8-14: UK Elite Soccer Travel Player Schools are designed to provede true travel soccer player with an environment within which they can be pushed beyond their comfort zone technically, tactically and functionally. Players will improve their ability to perform at higher speeds of play. The Curricula is based on best practices from international player development programs, including technical stations, and 3v3, 4v4 small sided conditioned and unconditioned scrimmages. Players are split into 8-10 and 11-14 age groups.

A smaller, structured camp setting, nurturing staff, and friendships lead to a FUN experience! One or two week registration options include full day and half day camps to compliment ESY. Must be able to follow one/two step directions, manage behavior and be able to make simple choices. Campers must exhibit ability for self care with limited assistance with changing or prompting using bathroom. Staff ratio: 1 staff/4 participants. Transportation: If attending ESY, contact your child's school to arrange transportation to camp.

Ages 5 - 21: Youth and teens with multiple/severe disabilities. Campers are grouped according to age and ability. Sensory and auditory stimulation, as well as social skills and peer interaction, are emphasized through activities. Music, crafts, cooking, board games and special events are part of the camp day. Transportation: Parents must make transportation arrangements with MCPS after camp.

Ages 6 - 12: Youth with learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD and/or Asperger's. HOW TO TAME YOUR KAYAK Ages 13 - 18: Are you ready for daily adventures canoeing, kayaking and more? Then you have found the right fit! This camp encourages personal development, team building and self reflection through a variety of exciting and physically demanding outdoor activities. The camp will be in a wilderness setting and will go rain or shine. This program is structured to provide an inclusive environment for individuals with ADD/ADHD, ED as well as participants without disabilities. Campers will learn to flip their kayak and wet exit, do t-rescues and start to learn to roll their kayaks. We will learn basic strokes and deep water rescues. Campers must be able to paddle their own kayak in increasingly challenging environments that may include class 1-2 white water, open bays with wind and waves. Session one will primarily be in white water kayaks. Session two will primarily be in sea kayaks. Campers must be able to pass a swim test on the first day of camp. Su mme r WELLNESS PROGRAM Montgomery County Recreation is committed to healthy living through healthy eating and physical activity. MCR formed the Wellness, Fitness and Performance Institute to provide a framework for all of our health, wellness, fitness, and performance initiatives. As part of our Summer Fun Centers, children will receive nutrition and physical activity educational programs. Children will also be able to participate in the "Hip Hop to a Healthy Summer Dance Marathon 2016" and a "Healthy Bulletin Board Contest." Last summer in the "Hip Hop to Health Contest," over 1,800 children dancing a total of 545 hours, with each child averaging 36 hours or 1.25 hours a day. This physical activity was in addition to the other sports and games they played at the SFC. With this program as part of our Summer Fun Centers, we are making Montgomery County a healthier place for our children and setting a legacy of health.

SUMMER FUN CENTERS Activities are well planned and supervised, and definitely COOL for those HOT summer days when you choose a Summer Fun Center! Whether you hang out with friends or make new ones, weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll keep things hopping with creative and fun crafts, sports, games, drama, music and special events. You can choose to come every day or just occasionally, but each day will be packed with summer fun for kids just like YOU! No transportation is provided. Participants ages 9-12 will swim every other week. Particpants ages 6-8 will go to the splash park every other week. Check the weekly newsletter for details. Children are expected to bring a lunch, snacks, and plenty of drinks to keep hydrated. Programs will not meet on Monday, July 4. AGE REQUIREMENTS

HEAT & OZONE ALERTS

Summer Fun Centers are for children ages 6 - 12: Six-year-olds must be entering first grade in the Fall, and school records may be required for age verification. Children must be no older than 12 throughout the six-week session.

Some program facilities may not be air conditioned. When code red ozone alerts and high temperature warnings are issued, all programs limit their outdoor activity.

FEES $385 for a six (6) week Summer Fun Center. No refunds will be issued after the completion of the program.

DATES Summer Fun Centers are scheduled Monday through Friday from June 27 until August 5, 2016.

SUMMER FUN CENTERS Summer Fun Centers are one of the many Montgomery County Recreation gems you'll discover this summer. The summer will be filled with fun and excitement for boys and girls ages 6-12. The Summer Fun Center program is organized fun, with well-planned and supervised activities. TEEN SERVICE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Ever wonder what it takes to be a camp counselor? Now here is your chance! Teens have several options to get involved: Summer Leadership Challenge, Junior Counselor, Mainstream Companion and Therapeutic Recreation Camp Assistant. Teens will be awarded SSL hours for successful completion of programs. Camps will not meet on Monday, July 4.

Registration Process Registration for Teen Service Learning Opportunities begins at 8:30 am on Tuesday, January 19, 2016. Teens must first complete the Summer Leadership Challenge before becoming a Junior Counselor next summer. To participate as a Junior Counselor you must also register for a Junior Counselor Orientation session (pick from one of six classes). Junior Counselors will not be able to participate over the summer unless they have attended the mandatory Junior Counselor Orientation. To volunteer to work with individuals with disabilities in a MCR Summer Camp: • Sign up for a TR Volunteer Training • Sign up for a volunteer opportunity as a Mainstream/Inclusion Companion, TR Camp Assistant or both • Contact our volunteer coordinator @ 240-777-6870 • Successfully complete the training prior to your volunteer service.

SUMMER LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE (SLC) At least 13 but less than 16: Summer Leadership Challenge (SLC) is a leadership development program that encourages exploration, independence, and personal growth. Young people participate in interactive workshops that prepare them for leadership roles and employment. Our goal is to empower participants to effect positive changes within themselves and within their community. Young people will learn about employment opportunities they can pursue and become competent in leading others in activities. Each session concludes with participants coordinating and implementing a capstone project benefiting the local community. In addition to developing useful skills, participants will earn service learning hours and receive individual evaluations. At Summer Leadership Challenge, young people will establish lasting friendships, develop a sense of responsibility, learn to work more effectively in groups, build accountability, and gain the confidence to solve problems independently. You may only register for one (1) session of SLC. Participants may earn up to 35 SSL hours for the session. No transportation is available. Program will not meet on Monday, July 4th. JUNIOR COUNSELOR ORIENTATION The Junior Counselor Training is a great opportunity for returning volunteers to build on their experiences from the previous summer and get ready for a new summer of leadership and fun. To be eligible to participate in the Junior Counselor Program, you must have successfully completed the Summer Leadership Challange Program or have been a, Mainstream Companion or TR Camp Assistant last year.
