IOL is an exceptional multi-sensory space all under one roof. England’s World defining industrial heritage of monolithic masonry arches is retained, recognised, and highlighted by the discrete and subliminal insertion of a repertory cinema, vinyl record store, film, music and photography bookshop and a restaurant, as a series of elegantly demountable objects, thereby retaining the scale and volume of the original spaces. This language is further contrasted and contradicted by mixing the inherent glamour of the airport with the utilitarian grandeur of the factory.

PLANNING APPLICATION AND INTERIOR DESIGN FOR A MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT I PROJECT TYPE: Residential and commercial DATE: 2016 LOCATION: Hackney AREA: 1712 sqm BUDGET: £ 1m
T The 18 unit development at London Lane forms Phase 3 of the redevelopment of The London Fields Estate. The proposal is to retain the existing Live/Work commercial use and extend potential employment space with new B1 Office space on Ground and First Floors to the rear of the existing building and supplant this with C3 residential on Second, Third, and Fourth Floors.
CENTRE Gransden Avenue side elevation
The particular points addressed are to propose a complete re-design of the existing fa- cade to avoid an imbalanced facade by implementing a rain screen facade with a vertical accent that allows the proposed building to have an individual and ‘stand alone’ presence

Art House A MOBILE ART GALLERY FOR THE BOROUGH OF KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA
19-28 JUNE
T
Art|House is a pop up art school built for the InTRANSIT Festival, funded and coordinated by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Arts and Culture Service. Art|House is an architectural counter-question to the current cultural dominance of ‘big build’ art gallery/art centre regeneration and an irreverent look at arts education and gallery culture that seeks to meaningfully conjoin local groups, young and old, with artists and their practice. Conceived in 4 weeks, built in 2, it is constructed primarily from 4000 milk crates and 10,000 bottles of water.

PROJECT TYPE: Organic Farm DATE: 2015 LOCATION: Ghana AREA: 1 Acre BUDGET: £ 1.2 m
ELMINA
Sunshine Organic Farms started to cultivate the soil to Organic Certification standards, utilising and training local workers and management from Ayenso Do and Elmina, growing people as well as crops. The ‘common good’ was to think global and act local, to initaiate a ground up movement to return Ghana to its pre-colonial agricultural self substinence model. Sunshine Organic Farms then engaged USE Architects to produce a feasibility study for the processing centre to progress SOF production from a labour intensive model to a more flexible and commercial mechanised form whilst retaining essential elements of subsistency..

informal surroundings. Showcasing both Brazilian culture and eclectic gastronomic heritage, Rio Boteco brings a comprehensively upscaled menu of traditional tapas and street food, complimented by a fusion of traditional Brazilian comfort dishes – perfect for cinema snacking.
CINEDINING Celebrates the wonderful Brazilian food offering from Rio Boteco. It shows us the wealth of different sounds and sights that make up the world’s fifth largest country. We open with Marcel Camus’ 1959 Palme d’Or winning Orfeu Negro, and present over twenty acclaimed and unusual Brazilian titles to take you on a journey of discovery from the mysticism of the northern hinterlands with Glauber Rocher's Black God White Devil to the proud and fiery Gaúchos of the Rio Grande do Sul.
We have stocked the IOL bar with the best from our neighbours such as draft ales from Five Point brewery, gin and vodka from East London Liquor Company, a selection of craft bottled beers from other local London breweries and a twist – prose cco on tap! To complement the Brazilian theme we have three specially designed cachaça cocktails and (should we say so ourselves) a masterful reworking of the all time favourite summer classic, the caipirinha.
2.
LIGHT NIGHT An exploration of Image and Structure in Film. A chance to see both classic and lesser-known titles selected for their dynamic visual impact. From Charles Laughton’s iconic Night of the Hunter to Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon you can expect a season that celebrates film as the art medium that defined the Twentieth Century.
Step into The Institute of Light – a one-stop cultural hub, set in an enigmatic railway, half under the rumble of the old Great Eastern Jazz Line, half in an intimate courtyard. IOL works as a multisensory space:
