culture 4 navigate’s ideology exemplifies the definition of counter-culture from its heritage to its design. each design, lookbook, and video draws on the realities of navigating life. navigate creative director and founder, brian benitez, draws inspiration from Japanese culture and the structural elements of Japanese society - creating structure out of chaos. he set out to create a social commentary through his brand— always driven by his initial inspiration of street culture. an anti-fashion fashion line, the navigate label sets out to tell a story.

general kawasaki iseo mizuno toshikata represents navigation through chaotic wartime sourced from general kawasaki iseo, spy of the cavalry. on patrol on the night of the 3rd August general iseo swims across the taedong river alone to observe the enemy’s movements, then climbs into an enemy boat and returns composedly to his camp by mizuno kumejiro.

core team 1/ brian benitez (creative) director/designer brian@navigate.com brian benitez has been designing for over 10 years. growing up in south florida, he was inspired by the culture around him:— drugs, money, cars, and street fashion. after continuing his design career into brand creation, product design, and creative direction for companies in silicon valley, benitez began pusuing his original interest: street fashion. he studied japanese streetwear and high fashion, spending much time in tokyo. inspired by designers such as hiroshi fujiwara of fragment design, yohji yamamoto, jun takahashi of undercover, and rei kawakubo of comme des garcons, he set out to create a social commentary through his brand, driven by his initial inspiration of street culture.
