Happy August Modesto!

By Grace McNamera

It is hard to believe that our summer is coming to a close, and a new school year is on its way! As the school bells draw near, I am excited to start my senior year at a brand new school, Central Catholic. I hope this school year can be a new beginning for everyone. I plan to cherish my last year here in Modesto. This includes going to my favorite restaurants frequently, and heading to my favorite spots. Tucked away in the heart of Downtown Modesto, Churchkey has been a culinary haven for locals and visitors seeking a delightful dining experience. This restaurant prides itself on offering a unique and diverse menu that tantalizes taste buds while providing a warm and inviting ambiance that leaves you coming back for more. You won’t get better tater tots anywhere else than here. Whenever I find out my family is going out to eat at this restaurant, I smile from ear to ear. I don’t take enough advantage of this restaurant being so close to me. Something I talk about time and time again is the movie theaters. If I could be at the movie theaters all day, I would. Luckily for us, we have a few beautiful theaters, one being the State Theater, which I recently performed at with Strut Performing arts! Movies are constantly being shown there, and they have the most delicious snacks including their amazing popcorn, pretzels, pizza, soda, and much more. I have even gone in there just to get a bag of popcorn and a coke because it is just that good!

Walking downtown is one of my favorite feelings. As you step into Downtown Modesto, you are instantly greeted by a sense of nostalgia and timeless elegance. The area boasts an array of historic buildings, some dating back to the late 19th century. I like to say that downtown is the “heart’’ of Modesto. I also enjoy looking at the many murals we have down there. They are absolutely gorgeous. Modesto is a beautiful city with many things to do. It is important to recognize the good and the beauty in things. I hope that as we all settle into this new school year, that we keep this in mind!
