STORM FINDS: “BOY ISLAND” AND ‘GAY- HENGE’, THE SUBMARINE TEST TOWER
A quarter mile or so of dunes that used to be middle of ‘Boy Beach’ were wiped out so getting there and back is hazardous at high tide. It’s not just hold-your-phone-up-high-depth any more, and there may be strong currents pulling you out to sea. Also uncovered: the foundations of early 20th century submarine test towers, affectionately dubbed ‘gay henge’. The deep harbor near shore made it ideal for submarines calibrating a nautical mile.
‘GAY-HENGE’
AIDS MEMORIAL INSTALLED
Provincetown installed its AIDS memorial this summer. And it’s already sacred to some as a repository for or means of accessing and processing the traumatic losses. Stop and see it on the grounds of Town Hall. Many gay men came here to live and die in the 80s and 90s. Many other gay men, lesbians and allies forged a strong response across the town. And that is what the town honors in the prose describing the epidemic, (but doesn’t mention the homophobia that made it necessary or the populations hardest hit.)
EX-PORN STAR WANTS TO MARRY YOU.

GET MARRIED
Long-time guide for Art’s Dune Tours Frankie Valenti (aka Johnny Hazzard) knows a ton about Provincetown, the dunes, and the many creative, quirky washashores whose footsteps he walks in. He also knows a thing or two about love and making it. So getting ordained, kind of follows. As he wrote on Instagram, “I will now add this to my list of ‘candos!’...
Book a sunset dune tour ... Who else can say that they were married by an ex-porn star in the dunes of the Cape?”
