INTRODUCTION “Those will have gardens of perpetual residence; beneath them rivers will flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on adorned couches. Excellent is the reward, and good is the resting place.” (Al Kahf 18:31)

This project aim was to use the knowledge from subject culture and human behavior in the built environment to help in the designing the art and craft center for design studio subject. The choose of 3 case study to analyze the space, and to help understanding the human behavior in the building. This project also aiming to identified the user of the building and they behavior. by identified user and the the use of the space, it can help in design consideration for the art and craft center. The art and craft center was design for the exhibition and also the production of the Keri's. The art and craft center will help Gombak communities to sustain heritage business and increased country revenue in terms of tourism.

SITE BACKGROUND The site name is site A. The location of the site is at beside the International Islamic University Malaysia. The size of the site is 1000sqm. The strategic location of the site which located near all education area and also near the residential area which is Kampung Pusu. The site is flat and surround by the tree.

KERIS MAKER The keris maker is the one that will produce the keris . The keris maker need blacksmith workshop to produce the keris. and use office to design the keris

MONS INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS XPERIENCE (MICX) MONS, BELGIUM,

The first case study is Mons international congress experience center located at Mons, Belgium. This Centre is has an expression of contrasting geometric forms that make it easy to notice in semi urban area. The Center houses a grand entrance hall, three auditoriums, a multi-purpose event hall, conference rooms, offices, a restaurant, an under reground parking and a public roof terrace. The simple ,yet dramatic form using the local material make the building fresh and dynamic to the area.The use of material such as aluminum, timber and metal is also easy to get in Malaysia. make this building perfect to become the first case study. the location of the building which located at semi urban area which similar to the project. the use of

OBSEVATION 1 The use of natural daylight to give a light to the exhibition area by placing transparent glass around the exhibition space making the user experience

OBSEVATION 2 The use of double volume at the exhibition space to give bright and open experienced to the visitor that come to the building. The skylights cut through the length of the crescentshaped space at irregular intervals to usher in daylight, and create shifting patterns of natural illumination. and the first floor that can look trough the ground floor give the new view to the visistor to look at the exhibition space

OBSEVATION 3 The use of natural material make the building more sustainable and the use more blend with the nature. the use of timber as the cladding for the wall create more texture to the façade of the building and more interesting.


SEATTLE CENTRAL LIBRARY PUBLIC LIBARY ,SEATTLE ,USA

The second case study is Seattle Central Library located at Seattle ,USA Designed as new typology of a public library. Flexibility in contemporary libraries is conceived as the creation of generic floors on which almost any activity can occur. The form is geometry with each block stacked above the other .Each block represent different function but work in harmony. The block were arrange in the way that they provide self shading, triple heighted space. The unique geometry make it iconic attraction. The library win many internatinal award and one of the place that has many visitor.


CASE STUDY: ANALYSIS ON SEATTLE CENTRAL LIBRARY

OBSEVATION 1 The reading area with 180 degree view to the outside trough transparent glass. the location of the reading area which located at the third floor give the visitor magnificent view of the city. It also provide nature daylight , whit make less use of artificial light

OBSEVATION 2 The library reception area have become more warm and welcoming. these space are free of stack and offer free movement for the user to soak in various facilities in the library.

THE ROYALE CHULAN HOTEL KUALA LUMPUR MALAYSIA

The third case study is the Royale Chulan Hotels & Resorts. Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur, a luxurious 5-star accommodation, is centrally located in KL’s downtown business district. It has set out to offer its guests the most gracious Malaysian hospitality. The design of the building inspire from Royal palace. The building make from brick and concrete. The most interesting part of this building is the use of wood carving element in the design of the building. the flora design wood carving be use as shading , also as decoration at lobby, café event hall and many other.


CASE STUDY: ANALYSIS ON THE ROYALE CHULAN HOTEL

OBSEVATION 1 The big and welcoming entrance with wood carving panel to add some interesting and at the same time welcoming to the entrance of the lobby. The use of wood carving panel make the entrance more grand and it make the user fell like they enter to the palace. The big space at the lobby make the visitor fell welcoming.

OBSEVATION 2 The use of wood carving panel as light shading at the outdoor café bring an interesting mood to the café. The shadow cast from flora pattern at the wood panel make interior of the café more grand and fell luxury. It not only give the felling of calm but also the felling like eating in the royal palace.

OBSEVATION 3 The use of big opening toward the landscape that has be well planning , give the magnificent view to the user. the use of high ceiling give sense open space add more with no wall that stop the view of the user of the space. the use of big colum give sense of luxury ti the space.

Samudra warisan THE KERIS ART AND CRAFT CENTER

The design was inspire from the shape of Keri's , The use of material wood and concrete. with three separate building base on the function. The geometry combine wit the shape of organic at the roof.

The consideration of view , human activity, nature will enhance the beauty of the building. Use of case study will help us a lot to solving the design problem than we will facing. The sustainable aspect of the building also very important to create less waste. last but not least, the knowledge of culture of curtain place is one of the important factor that architect need to consider when designing the building. because the building will reflect the culture of the place.
