History of Al-Saraf Group Al-Saraf Group is a family owned specialty pharmaceutical group of companies, that brings to the Iraqi market, high quality, result driven pharmaceutical products backed with vast experience gained over 30 years since inception in 1970 by Dr Abd Munaf Al-Sarraf & a team of visionary dedicated pharmacists.

Introduction to SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co. We are a leading Iraqi pharmaceutical company founded in 1996 as a part of Al-Saraf Group. Our goal is to provide the best pharmaceutical products to Iraqi market that has been long deprived for quality medicines. Our desire from the inception was to satisfy the local market’s increasing needs through developing, manufacturing and marketing a whole range of solid, semi-solid and liquid generic products. Through the years we achieved a remarkably significant presence in the local Iraqi market , we are currently manufacturing more than eighty different pharmaceutical products and distributing throughout the country. We constantly add new products to our ever increasing portfolio. Our new manufacturing facility extension, a two-floor facility of 3200 square meters entirely dedicated to vial, ampoule, cream & ointment forms. This new facility will be officially inaugurated by December 2014.
Manufacturing: As a leading GMP & cGMP certified Pharmaceutical manufacturer, SAFA has invested significantly in top quality and world leading branded equipment to produce high quality generics. We are one of the preferred suppliers to the Ministry of Health. We have several regular annual contracts to supply to the government, especially because of our ability to deliver high quality medicines at a competitive price as well as the capacity to supply volumes. We currently produce over 300 million tablets, 150 million capsules, 15 million syrups & suspensions, 30 million suppositories per annum. With our new facility we will be doubling our existing capacity also adding around 50 million units of sterilized injectable from December 2014.

Regulatory Department: Our Registration Department comprises of a dedicated team of highly qualified and experienced specialists with thorough knowledge of the legal requirements in the Iraqi Ministry of Health. Other than managing regulatory affairs, the team also provides valuable technical support to our customers. International activities: Amongst SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co.’s other activities is the regular participation in pharmaceutical events exhibitions and conferences worldwide especially CPHI in Europe, India and China, Chemspec in Europe, Interpack in Germany, Duphat and Arab health in UAE. Our participation in these international events has helped build commercial relations with many companies worldwide. We constantly look for innovative companies and partnerships and actively invest in opportunities for mutually beneficial business relations. We have exclusively opened our offices in Amman, Jordan to facilitate international trade, import & distribution for companies we represent.
Distribution in Iraq: SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co. products can be found in most wholesale distribution stores & pharmacies across Iraq’s eighteen provinces. Our own fleet of vehicles covers all of the eighteen provinces in Iraq. With a highly organized logistics team, prompt & timely deliveries are assured and guaranteed to all our clients. Our DDT (Direct Distribution Team), is dedicated to a select few companies that we represent who focus on a model of “not relying on the middle man” i.e. sub-distributor to ensure excellent service is provided round the clock. Our office in Amman, Jordan has a team of Tele-sales representatives to provide and process sales orders. A specialist team is housed in our Jordan office for all importation of foreign products into the Iraqi market that we represent. We cover all channels of distribution through our own sales force of medical representatives, appointed distributors, sub-distributors and dedicated team for doctors, hospitals & clinics.

Company highlights: -Our first manufacturing facility was built in 1988 which later became the launching point for our first expansion as SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co. venture that saw the light in 1996. -SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co. is a pharmaceutical company, founded in Iraq in 1996. -SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co. is the only Iraqi company that established to manufacture both human and veterinary pharmaceuticals. -SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co. initially commenced the production of human medicines in 1996 with syrup and suspension lines, gradually expanding its range to include tablets , capsules , suppositories and drops. -SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co. has now more than eighty registered products with different strengths & dosage forms. -We supply pharmacies and wholesale drug stores, we also supply government-owned healthcare providers like hospitals and primary healthcare centres all over the country under the auspices of the Iraqi Ministry of Health. -SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co. has an experienced workforce of more than a hundred fifty individuals. History: 1996: SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co established in Diyala, Iraq. 1996: SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co began manufacturing liquid forms (syrups, mixtures, elixirs and suspensions). 1998: SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co established capsules line ( Iraq’s first private pharmaceutical industry to establish capsules line). 1999: SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co established tablets line (the biggest tablets line with six tableting machines). 2000: SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co established suppositories line (SPI is the only private pharmaceutical industry that has a suppositories line in the country). 2001: SAFA Pharmaceutical Industries Co has more than fifty registered items in the market. 2003: The new extension facility is now built on a 3200 square meters of land and we are set to become the largest privately-owned pharmaceutical manufacturer in Iraq. 2004-2007 : Adding new production and packaging lines 2008 : Beginning the construction of our new plant 2009 : Opening of SAFA regional office in AmmanJordan 2010-Present: Submission tens of registration files to Ministry of Health.
