We know that moving away from home and living in an unfamiliar environment can be daunting, which is why we do what we can to make it a little easier for you.
Georgina Hughes, UG Business Management & Economics
After all, living in student accommodation is a unique experience that you will remember for the rest of your life. Not only will you meet other students from different backgrounds, you’ll also learn to live independently, while sharing living make lifelong friends.
When you apply for accommodation, you will be given the chance to indicate your accommodation preferences* Things to think about: What is my budget? Do I need to bring my car? Am I going to cook? Will I be comfortable sharing a bathroom? Would I rather live in a quiet, alcohol-free, single sex area? Do I need special arrangements for my medical condition?
Designated areas Health science = human and health science students on longer length courses Mature students = for students over the age of 21 Postgraduates = usually 51 week courses and study after your initial degree Quiet = noise restrictions between 11pm and 8am Single sex = same gender students living together Welsh speakers = siarad cymraeg? For students who speak Welsh *We don’t guarantee you’ll get your preferred residence, but you must include on your application all requirements affecting your accommodation needs so we can do our best to meet them.

Support
he best Some of t d are forme memories ay e living aw when you’r us and p from cam your you have own space
We support you, so you can focus on your student life
Rebecca Grimes, Welfare Officer, Students’ Union
Welfare Wardens .... .... are students living in residence here to support you. You may find it easier to approach them, rather than a member of staff, if you want someone to talk to. They will see things from your point of view and they are a great bunch to go to if you just want a chat and some advice. In your first few weeks of arrival, they will pay you a visit and help you settle in.
Social media You can follow us on Twitter @residenservices for news, updates and reminders. Like our public Facebook group before you get your room offer for useful links and information. Get to know your flatmates before you even arrive! With your room offer you’ll get the link to join the Facebook group set up for your residence or area. Residents use this to meet flatmates before moving in, decide who’s bringing what and make plans for the first days of arriving in Swansea.
Student Support Services A department dedicated to providing support around issues such as money, study skills, exam stress, international visas, personal matters and more. All help and advice is confidential and available to all students on a wide range of issues.

Viewing room scheme When you apply for accommodation you can opt to live in a viewing room and get a reduction on your residence fees at the end of the year. These rooms are set aside for students who would like to get involved with accommodation viewings which means we’re able to show visitors our residences throughout the year. There are rooms in designated areas in various Singleton Park Campus Residences. If you live in a viewing room you’ll welcome visitors to your accommodation, talk about your experiences and manage accommodation viewings and tours on event days (including University’s open days and UCAS visit days).
Swansea Employability Award, SEA If you’re keen to gain some experience (and maybe even get some money back) we have opportunities exclusively for residents to gain experience towards the University’s Employability Award or ‘SEA’. The Award is something you can produce for employers after graduating to show them valuable work experience you’ve gained whilst studying.
Resident’s Network Organising events and creating communities. ResNet has been set up by Residential Services and the Students’ Union to support residents in university accommodation. As well as keeping residents’ social lives busy with Students’ Union events, ResNet plays an active role in getting new accommodation initiatives off the ground. There are a range of different opportunities to get involved with ResNet with the chance to volunteer at the beginning of the year during Welcome Week.

After your 1st year
tly run SAS is join ’ Union udents by the St nd is niversity a and the U go option to the best he living in t n e h w h it w y communit Rebecca Grimes, Welfare Officer, Students’ Union
What do I do after my first year? In your returning years, you can apply to live in our residences. However, the most popular choice is a house in the private sector. Swansea has an ample stock of student housing of a high standard. The supply exceeds the demand from our students. You’re in an excellent position to shop around for an affordable house of decent quality and not settle for something you’re not happy with.
What is a university managed house? A property fully managed and administered by SAS Lettings who provide an individual licence agreement for each resident, manage rental fees and deal with maintenance and repairs (including out of hours emergency repairs). You pay no damage deposit and all properties comply with the Local Council’s Licensing Scheme.
