1989 - 90 Graduates

MESSAGE FROM THE S.R.C. PRESIDENT

Congratulations, you did it! Those years of long nights and hard work have finally been rewarded. We now get to join the "real" world. The hard work will still be there, but now we will be paid for it. Looking back at all we have been through , I'm tempted to say "thank God it's over". I hope that this doesn't

sound negative because it is not intended to. It's just that I know I'm not alone when I think of all those times that I never thought I would make it. Well, we did finally make it! This year was a difficult year for most of us. We had to struggle through a month long faculty strike and all the disruption that it caused. But worst of all, there were all those long nights of studying. Looking back on it now, it was a year I'm sure that none of us will ever forget. Graduation, what does it really mean? Well , I do know what it does not mean. Graduation does not mean you are no

longer a part of Mohawk College . Nothing could be further from the truth. You will always be a part of Mohawk through your memories, your friends and your success achieved because of your time spent here. You are beginning a new relationship with the college, now as a member of the alumni association . Good Luck, I hope all your dreams will be realized. Mark Sauve

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT enviable reputation with employers and now it is up to you to make your contribution to that reputation as a competent graduate. You can do this in several ways:

Congratulations on the successful completion of your program! Over the years ahead , this grad book will serve as a permanent record and reminder of the time you spent at Mohawk. I hope it has been a pleasant and rewarding time for you . As you tackle the challenge of a new career in the 1990's, you will be joining the ranks of over 26,000 alumni who have graduated from Mohawk College and its predecessor institutions with a diploma like you rs. • Keep your newly learned occupational skills up-to-date through continuing and professional education which you can acquire both on the job and by attending evening cou rses , seminars and workshops. This will be a considerable challenge because the pace of change keeps accelerating. • Pursue more liberal studies and general education at advanced levels to expand you r base of knowledge . • Perfect your communication skills - verbal and written. Employers tell us everything you do depends on communications. Advancement and progress on the job depends more than anything else on communications . • Know thyself. By doing so, you will function as a better subordinate in work groups

and , when the opportunity comes , you will make a better supervisor. We will be interested in learning about your success and we look forward to receiving feedback about your program as you begin to apply on the job what you have learned at Mohawk. Once again , congratulations and best wishes for success in your new occupation . I invite you to keep in touch with the College through your Alumn i Association.

MESSAGE FROM THE VICE-PRESI DENT OF STUDENT SE RVIC ES As Mohawk's Vice-President, Student Services , I am pleased to be part of the 1990 yearbook . Graduation is a very special moment in your life. It is a very happy time because it marks the successfu l completion of your studies at Mohawk College ; all those assignments and tasks are now behind you. It is also a sad time because it may be the last time you will

be with some of your classmates and teachers . · As you embark upon your career, I would like to share a thought with you: In everything that lies ahead , be optimistic. Success ultimately comes to those who view setbacks as challenges , disappointments as learning experiences , and problems as opportunities to demonstrate your true potential. On behalf of all the graduates, I would like to congratulate the 1989-90 S.R.C . and especially the Graduation Book editor, Danny Arcand , for publ ish ing this

momento and for including the new section of candid pictures of student events. I look forward to seeing many of you in the future as active alumni members or as Continuing Education students. Please accept my best wishes for much success and happiness in the years ahead .

Molson Indy. In 19BB, Ilmor-Chevrolet VB power took first place. Ahead of Porsche. Ahead of Cosworth. CAKT series overall. With Chevrolet Indy VB thunder; GM has taken the series by storm: 11 out of 12 races in 19BB. NASCAR racing. At 27 events in 19BB, GM cars took the checkered flag 19 times. Closer to home. On tracks right across Canada, GM Motorsport is behind grass-roots racing in the GM ! Player's Challenge Camara IROCZ and Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Showroom Stock series. And Corvette. The new Corvette ZR1 boasts a speed of 0-96 km/h (60 mph) in 4.5 seconds. If you want to lead the world, you better perform. And at General Motors we do.
