The College

Mohawk College has grown to be one of Canada’s leading colleges. Mohawk’s history began in 1947 with the establishment of the Provincial Institute of Textiles which was transformed into the Hamilton Institute of Technology (HIT) in 1957. Ten years later, in 1967, the HIT was incorporated as the newly established Mohawk College, one of 24 Ontario colleges.

Today, Mohawk College proudly delivers a quality education and college experience to over 30,000 full-time, part-time, continuing education and apprenticeship students. Mohawk is the region’s prime job creating engine, having transformed more than 165,000 graduates into highly skilled and future ready graduates who are driving tomorrow’s opportunities.

The Liripipe

The liripipe is a European medieval symbol of academic achievement dating back to the 8th century. It marks the achievement of excellence according to each student’s chosen program and symbolizes their membership into the international community of scholars.

Academic Designation

Upon receipt of the following credentials, graduates are entitled to use a designation, as described below, after their names:

Ontario College Certificate, OCC

Ontario College Diploma, OCD

Ontario College Advanced Diploma, OCAD

Ontario College Graduate Certificate, OCGC
