Teaching and research go hand in hand at the Villanova School of Business
Centers of Excellence
Villanova School of Business (VSB) faculty are leaders in global business education who develop and refine their ideas through meaningful interactions with their students and colleagues. It is this collegiality which helps make VSB one of the best business schools in the nation.
Center for Global Leadership
Faculty members routinely partner with local, national, and international businesses to test, refine, and implement new ideas. They capitalize on extensive experience in the corporate world to develop course content that addresses the conditions and challenges of today’s business environment while also anticipating tomorrow’s business needs. Knowledge gained through research, classroom experiences, and the business world continually impact and enrich VSB’s undergraduate and graduate experiences as well as our executive education programs.
Center for Marketing and Public Policy Research Center for the Study of Church Management Daniel M. DiLella Center for Real Estate Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship Center (ICE Center)
VSB’s commitment to research and academic rigor is evident through the school’s five Centers of Excellence. These initiatives are designed to focus attention on critical business issues and to leverage the expertise of VSB faculty in a cross-disciplinary way. They support faculty research, teaching excellence, curriculum development, and the intersection of research and business practice. Each of VSB’s five centers makes a significant contribution to VSB curricula.

excellence in teaching
VSB faculty members are widely recognized for excellence in both teaching and research. Over 90 percent of faculty members hold the highest degree in their respective discipline. Ours is a multidimensional faculty that holds a wealth of real-world experience from careers in finance, banking, sales, management, marketing, accounting, consulting, and other fields.
A Community of Scholars Every member of Villanova’s close-knit community is committed to business education—not just to provide formal business training but also to prepare students to be contributing members of society. The best and brightest minds in business come to VSB to be part of its supportive and collaborative environment. The balance of teaching and research coupled with the ability to make a significant impact in the success of the school makes for an ideal teaching environment. Our community is caring and cohesive, but also demands the highest levels of performance. There is an ongoing dialogue among scholars about how best to provide an education that prepares students to become outstanding leaders and global citizens within the fast-paced and complex world of business. Rooted in the Augustinian foundation of truth, community, caring, and leadership through service, VSB emphasizes small classes, strong facultystudent relationships, and ethical and social responsibility.
An Innovative Approach to Teaching VSB’s undergraduate curriculum, completely redesigned in 2008, provides students with the wide variety of knowledge and experiences they need to be prepared for today’s business climate. Our rigorous, highly–integrated and largely team-taught curriculum provides our 2
Teaching, Research, and Service
students with a deep understanding of how the business world intersects with the global community. Unique to the curriculum is the integration of disciplines that traditionally were separated, including finance and financial accounting, operations management and managerial accounting, and management and marketing. VSB offers a suite of graduate and executive programs designed to prepare students to meet the challenges of today’s demanding business environment. Our newly redesigned MBA curriculum takes a multidisciplinary approach, ensuring that working professionals are able to develop their functional skills while also understanding the strategic importance of cross-functional thinking and the implications and impact of decision making across an organization.
The Daniel M. DiLella Center for Real Estate The center was established to provide academic and professional development opportunities to Villanova students. Student interest sparked the creation of the center and generated enthusiastic support from alumni, faculty, and donors. The center supports faculty research and teaching, ensuring relevance in the curriculum through the incorporation of site visits, an experiential learning development project, and the perspectives of industry experts. A real estate minor is offered for undergraduate students and MBA students can take advantage of real estate coursework during their program.
“Our new faculty are top researchers who also have demonstrated leadership in the classroom. We’re delighted to have them on board, and know they will enrich the educational experience of all VSB students.” JAMES M. DANKO The Helen and William O‘Toole Dean Villanova School of Business

Bennett will receive her PhD in marketing from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University in December 2009. Prior to joining the Villanova School of Business, Bennett served as an instructor at the Stern School of Business, where she also completed a Master of Philosophy and a pre-doctoral program in marketing. Helping Corporations Keep Score In basketball, the team ahead at halftime does not always win the game. The same is true in the business world—companies that report short-term profits can fail in the long-term if they do not satisfy customers, attract and retain good employees, and continuously work to stay ahead of the competition.
Many VSB faculty are recognized experts and have been published in elite journals including: • Academy of Management Journal • Economic Inquiry • Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control • Journal of Financial Economics • Journal of International Business Studies
Stephen Liedtka researches the ways various accounting and other performance indicators influence management decisions and long-term business performance. He has applied his expertise to a diverse set of topics, including IT outsourcing, option trading, and Balanced Scorecard design. His work has been published in leading academic journals including Behavioral Research in Accounting, Communications of the ACM, Computers and Operations Research, Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting, and Journal of Management Information Systems. He also serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Northeastern Association of Business, Economics and Technology.
