PAHURAT Starting with my selected site The Phahurat or Pahurat, often known as Thailand’s Little India, is an ethnic neighborhood surrounding Phahurat Road in Wang Burapha Phirom Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok. Pahurat is well-known for its fabric professionalism and serves as a representative of Thailand’s Indian community. Pahurat area is also connected with Sampeng by sapan hun junctions which allows them to share cultural values. I also went to observe the site many times to get a sense of Pahurat and to understand more about its nature
ARTIFACTS AND METHOD IN MAKING After revisiting the sites multiple times my interest comes down to the idea of the overlapping spaces between the commercial and residential area. During the working hours, Pahurat is super busy having a lot of people coming in and out all the time but after everything is closed Pahurat remains as a normal living neighborhood as it always was. During the day in Pahurat, you can see that the walking streets are super small and narrow because all the shops are trying to extend their space out as much as possible for their own benefits causing the community looks unorganized and chaotic. The space there is super limited so most of them trying to make use of their own spaces at their maximum limits, Umbrella is also one of their strategy to extend their spaces out. Umbrella in Pahurat is not used in terms of protecting them from the sun but more like marking their territories which I found this aspect interesting.Another interesting artifact that can be seen anywhere within the site but people often look over is paper tubes. Every fabric rolls have a paper tube in order to keep the fabric in place but it can only be used once no matter how good its condition was which causes an enormous number of waste in paper tubes within the area. My chosen artifacts are the sunshades/umbrellas, paper tubes, and fabric display stand which they are representing and identifying the site in different ways. In method of making i did explored these artifact in many diffrent ways.
THE PHADOWS Materials and use of waste paper tubes I want Pahurat to be more than a commercial market for people and also try to celebrate their culture to make people notice it more. From my point of view, Pahurat is such an interesting community to explore both in terms of cultural values and its identity more than just its commercial aspects. There are no places in Pahurat where people can sit and relax or even stop their feet because their hectic trading market. This pavilion “ The phadows” will be providing open public spaces for people to come and interact with each other and create whatever programs by using the shadows as a medium. Making new attraction also places for both locals and visitors to come and enjoy Pahurat. The Phadows also consists of 5950 numbers of waste paper tubes from both the Pahurat and Sampeng districts. The Paper tube is symbolizing Pahurat as much as it is important for the community. That’s the reason why I choosing paper tubes as the main material for the pavilion

LOCATION AND SHADOWS ANALYSIS Using shadows to naturally define the uses of the space itself Different shadow patterns can create different types of functions throughout the day. I did sunlight hour analysis to study the changing patterns of shadows at different times of the day to understand the dynamic in order to predict activities that can be done in diffrent time periods The selected location for the phadows Is Saipan hun which is the only place in pahurat that provide enough space to put the proposal in it and also having nice exchanging cultural values because it’s a junction that connect 2 different district which are pahurat and sumpeng together
