Forest
View
Location: Great Smoky Moutains Sophmore Year: Spring Semester Square Footage: 1,548 Project Type: Individual Length of Project: 16 Weeks
Project Description: For this project, I was challenged to design a kitchen for a young couple who resides in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They are both employed as professors at USM and have no childern at this time. They have lived in their home (which is approximately 60 years old) for just over a year and are in the process of renovating. The house is somewhat dark and traditional in decor. Their goal is to update and lighten the space. My clients expected to gut the kitchen and reorganize this space; add new walls if necessary, as well as construct an addition approximately 5’x13 into the current patio area. They have requested that any new materials be sustainable. The bathroom will not be altered at this time.
Project Responsibilities:
Research, Programming, Space Planning, Revit Drawings, Color Renderings, Presentation Booklets. 32
Concept Statement By adding stainless-steel appliances; a dark navy color to the cabinets; and wooden accents, the Forest View renovation will give the Hunter family a
new and exciting feel to their kitchen and dining space. The wooden accents will showcase nature as its greatest feature. There will be plenty of light shining through the large window in the kitchen, which will also show a
view of the Great Smoky Moutains. The space will have a warm yet modern
feel by incorporating the wooden accents, stainless steel, and clean lines.
Design Goals 1. Design an operational kitchen. 2. Maximize the modernism of the kitchen. 3. Enhance the forest view with large windows. 4. Create a modern escape in a rustic environment. 5. Create a sustainable kitchen.

Huntsman Architecture Group
Location: Pennzoil Building, Houston, TX Junior Year: Spring Semester Square Footage: 38,000 Project Type: Individual Length of Project: 16 Weeks
Project Description: For this project I was challenged to design an architecture firm on the 14th and 15th floor in the Pennzoil Building located in Houston, Texas. The design included a collaborative open office floor plan with WELL Building Standards incorporated throughout. the area.
Project Responsibilities: Research, Programming, Space Planning, Revit Drawings, Color Renderings, Presentation Booklets, Finish Boards.
40
CONCEPT
The design for the Huntsman Architecture Firm located in Houston, Texas focused on a functional, modern design that was both interactive and organizational. Active furnishings were placed in offices which allowed the employees to sit and stand as desired. Included in the desks were ergonomic monitor lifts for better use suited to the staff’s well-being. Functional furniture such as height adjustable desk and charging stations were utilized in the lounge area, coffee shop, gallery space, and most of the offices. To create a modern design, I used horizontal lines to highlight the furniture and accessories. Lastly, the color palette of greys, whites, burnt orange and navy encouraged productivity, creativity and employee engagement.
Functional
Contemporary
Organizational
Interactive
The overall goal for the furniture in this project was to provide a functional and relaxing space for employees to work. This goal was achieved by inserting height adjustable desks, charging stations attached to the furniture and filing cabinets that were easy to maneuver.
The use of hallway signs, signage on office doors, bathrooms, and stairs kept the building organized. By having signs, the flow of the space was light and easy to maneuver.
41
To exceed my goal of a contemporary design, horizontal lines were emphazied on the furnishings and textiles. This accomplished the idea of blending with the windows and interior wall detail throughout the building. Grey and white tones with a pop of a burnt orange and navy blue filled the space to enhance the professionalism being achieved.
My goal was to make the work environment interactive. To achieve this goal, I designed a fitness center, coffee lounge and an archive center to display the work Huntsman Architecture Group created.

The Crown Hotel
Location: Baltimore, Maryland Senior Year: Fall Semester Square Footage: 50,000 Project Type: Individual Length of Project: 16 Weeks
Project Description:
For this project, I designed a lifestyle hotel located in The Arts and Entertainment District at Station North in Baltimore, Maryland. The first floor of the hotel included a reception/lobby, office, dining area/bar, and a public restroom. In addition, two design options were provided for a prototypical guest suite and a proposed adjoining retail space. I determined the lifestyle/target market based on extensive research and I selected the hotel name and created a comprehensive concept and brand. I conducted the town research on the history of the community along with the evolution of the hotel. This research, as well as a precedent study provided context for the proposed design solutions. The final design included written essays, concept statement, goals, FF&E, lighting solutions, finish samples, guest suite model and a presentation package.
Project Responsibilities:
Research, Programming, Preliminary Sketching, Branding, Space Planning, Revit Drawings, 3D Modeling, Color Renderings, Presentation Booklet, Finish Boards.
58
Concept Statement The Crown Hotel located in Baltimore, Maryland’s Arts and Entertainment District known as Station North will be designed as a sophisticated and well-dressed hotel. By tapping into a significant horse racing tradition in Baltimore - The Preakness Stakes; my hotel will mimic the trendy, cosmopolitan feel of the event. The bakery will show a variety of pastries sold at the event and anticipate to make the client to feel as if they are attending the event in person.
CROWN HOTEL & BAR
59
The personality of the property will be evident through the decor, furnishings, shops, food, and activity found in the hotel. My restaurant will be designed from the history of the War of 1812, which was significant to the city. The art work noting the war will evoke patriotism in the clients.. The end goal of the hotel is to provide an atmosphere which will leave the residents relaxed after their stay.

Cultural Wedding
Location: Spain Junior Year: Fall Semester Project Type: Individual Length of Project: 12 Weeks
Project Description: For this project, I was “hired” to design a traditional wedding venue for my clients. I designed a ceremony and reception areas native to the country of Spain. Also in keeping with the Spanish culture, the event featured many aspects highlighting this particular culture. I was able to incorporate my client’s unique cultural traditions into a cohesive design that blended the colors, patterns, textures, motifs and furnishings with the attire, food and music from their culture. I also designed a themed table top setting for the reception. Lastly, I created a client profile to help me with the vision of the culture and traditions.
Project Responsibilities: Research, Design and Photoshop techniques, Board Presentations, Oral Presentations
92
Concept Statement This event showed the unique and traditional ways the Spanish culture celebrates marriage. The space was designed to be inviting and exciting for the guests. Patterns originated from the architecture filled the space to create the “El Hambra feel. The wedding highlighted the bright colors through flowers, food, and clothing.
