BARCELONA CULINARY INSTITUTE Senior Capstone 2020
Barcelona Culinary Institute, also referred to as BCI, is an all encompassing culinary school located at the foot of Barcelona’s Mont Juic. The sites unique location with three varying street levels creates interesting conditions for connection to the existing urban fabric. BCI attempts to link the varying street levels through a series of levels, public gardens, and longitudinal pathways. BCI is nestled in a residential neighborhood and opens up to large public plaza on the highest street level. The project takes into consideration the surrounding context and attempts to mirror it within the space. A double skin C-Channel glass facade wraps the two volumetric spaces. The main geometry behind the design incorporates two volumes being carved by public pathways to bring people through the space which is surrounded by a glass box facade. Volume one, located on the plaza side, contains only spaces involving food. Where as volume two addresses the auxiliary support spaces required to successfully operate a culinary program.

CONNECTED LIVING Senior Studio 2019
This living working complex was designed to be located in Barcelona, Spain. This project was designed by David Perez and myself. The two buildings (A and B), are located diagonally around a residential public square. To approach the complex site, we incorporated two large courtyards that engage with the central square to draw users into both spaces. The related approach creates similar environments in two very different sites, through the usage of complimentary principles for both the common spaces and living quarters. This allowed for light to penetrate both interior and exterior “facades of the units and encourage cross ventilation. These living working complexes are meant to serve a combination of users to ensure flexibility. The first floor is comprised of working space and the living located directly above.

STOCKHOLM FACADE DESIGN Barcelona Workshop 2020
Located in Stockholm, Sweden, this week long intensive group workshop required designing an entire building envelop system for a building in a specific climate region. Stockholm, being located in a cold climate, required a series of climatic design considerations. As a group, we developed a facade using Sefaria Climate Software to produce an envelop that meets the 2030 Net Zero Challenge. Our process involved creating a shading system that would maximize sunlight in the harsh winter, and block out direct sunlight in the summer. The facade material choice, wall construction, and window glazing choices were all taken in consideration as well to be sure the building could meet the net zero energy sustainability standards. CULTURAL GRADIENT Junior Studio 2019
Located in Chicago, Illinois, this Scandinavian Cultural Center is designed to show cultural evolution through a gradient. This complex culture is expressed in simple exterior and a intricate interior. The gradient drives the organization, circulation, and aesthetic treatment of the space. The usage of color encourages programmatic organization and coordinates with the intended ambiance within the space. This evokes emotion and feeling depending on the intended use.

ARTIST RETREAT Junior Studio 2018
This Artist Retreat located in Allerton Park, Champaign, Illinois is an exploration through the understanding of one of the most important aspects present in the park, the paths. These paths are composed of both formal and informal paths. The formal paths are designed pathways, where as the informal paths have been shaped to this specific landscape overtime depending on the destination, location, and use. The connection between the various pathways to the entire park is the driving force in this design. They are used to push and pull people through the landscape, provide a focal point, a sense of direction, or even evoke emotion. The retreat serves a multitude of patrons, designed with dwellings, common space, studio space, and exterior spaces for usage. These programmatic spaces are connected by a series of pathways. Since this site is located between three major focal points at park, the meadow, the forest, and the river, this design pushes and pulls people between the three spaces. This concept is using the pathways as both a functional aspect and encourage artistic movement through the landscape.

GREEN MARKET Sophomore Studio 2018
This market hall is designed to be located in downtown Champaign, Illinois. The location of this market is centrally situated in a highly populated area urban setting. The idea behind the green house aesthetic design became the focus of this design to ensure transparency of the program. The Green Market functions as a daily market for citizens of Champaign. The flexible interior environment allows for easy reconfiguration of the space. Along with the glass facade and large track windows, the space is able to open up to the street, encouraging interaction from all sides. A variety of programmatic activities can occur here from markets, to concerts, to banquets.
