mODULAR mINDFULNESS “Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.� Leonardo Dicaprio Oscar Acceptance Speech, 2016
A nature driven Visual Merchandising trend that focuses heavily on sustainability and the eco system. Modular Mindfulness combines the use of wooden structural shapes and designs along with terrariums and encaged plants to create an overall natural aesthetic. It follows a consistent natural palette including colours such as Granite grey, blueprint and Raw Brown.

Modular Mindfulness
Modular mindfulness is a trend inspired by the impact of global warming. As a result, over the past 100 years the earths core temperature has risen between 0.4 and 0.8 °C (Live Science, n.d). Modular Mindfulness is a reaction to this issue and hopefully the beginning of a solution. The Trend consists of terrarium plants and extensive modular components combined with technology to create a mini ecosystem. It has helped to inspired other brands such as Ikea’s Space 10 as well as having an effect on the fashion and film industry

Creating Suspense “Inspiration is all around us. All that we see, hear, touch, taste, and smell helps us to form new ideas, even if we don’t notice it.” Hegarty, 2014
Creating suspense is a VM trend that celebrates the use of alternative ways to display products and garments. It consists of chairs or hangers suspended from the ceiling giving the overall store a more interesting and unique aesthetic. This trend consists of a natural brown colour palette including colours such as crème caramel and burnt brown.

Creating Suspense
Creating Suspense is a modern way of using displays in stores. It encourages the consumer to appreciate more of the surroundings, to look up and around rather than what is presented directly in-front of them. This trend has been taken on by the likes of the High End brand Hermès, as seen at Milan Design Week 2016, and was also featured in the new and upcoming Berlin shopping centre, ‘Bikini Berlin’.

Integrated Industrial “Contrasting materials are brought together in unexpected ways, combining the luxury with the everyday.� WGSN, 2015 Trend Report
A trend inspired by colours and aspects that feature in industrial sites such as oil rigs and electricity plants. It combines the use of raw materials such as wooden crates and copper pipes which are then modernised with accessories such as plants or clothing. This trend follow a very natural and fundamental palette, consisting of colours such as Ivory stone and copper.

Integrated Industrial
Integrated Industrial is a twist on what we see as industrial. Its a combination of Raw materials such as wooden crates and plants combining it with materials found in the industrial industry such as metals and piping. The combination is then given a modern aesthetic through its colour palette and design. The trend has been taken on by the likes of Andy Thornton and Paleet Mall in Oslo. It was also featured during the Berlin Premium Trade Show this year. . .

Earthly Delights “ This trend symbolises a return to detail, layers, history and craftsmanship, a rebellion against industrial mass made pattern and a nod towards simple original designs inspired by the beauty of nature.� Fabric and Papers, 2015
Earthly delights is a twist on the reincarnated floral trend, inspired by the likes of William Morris and John William Waterhouse. The prints consist of compact, repeated florals demonstrating natural floral imagery. The patterns consist of a earthy, natural colour palette including Boschian blue, Rosewood red and Sage green.

Earthly Delights
There will always be a reincarnation of florals each season, this season focuses on the traditional English florals inspired by the arts and craft movement. These traditional florals inspired by the work of William Morris have re-emerged in the resort 2016 catwalks as demonstrated by Valentino and Joe Richards 2016 collections. The trend has also followed on from the catwalks into interiors as seen in the House of Hackneys last collection and featured in costumes within the recent Oscar nominated film, the Danish Girl.

Trendy tribes “A bold graphic hand and electric brights revamp tribal-inspired patterning for high-impact, statement-making pieces.� Hannah Watkins, 2016 WGSN
A trend that combines history and the future. Trendy Tribes celebrates traditional markings and cultural identities by collaborating with modern patterns to form a renewed and refreshed print trend. It consists of a traditional, bold colour palette featuring colours such as autumn orange and cherry red.

TRENDy tribes Trendy Tribes is inspired mainly by African tribes and their historic markings. This influence has made its way onto the A/W 16 catwalk inspiring the likes of Stella Jean and Altuzarra. These patterns have also had an effect on the art industry with the likes of Regina Bogat and Amir H Fallah incorporating this style into their work along with the Great African American Film Maker, Oscar Micheaux.

Pattern Mismatch “Design drops a curve ball in among well-ordered, controlled patterns and prints. Disjointing and disrupting the rhythm of consistency and upsetting the regimented patterns via painterly scribbles and graffiti spray.� WGSN Forecast Team, 2016
A mismatch of colours like a mismatch of patterns. This trend focuses on patterns in a new light, moving away from symetical aligned patterns, pattern mismatch consists of shapes and clashing colours complied into one. The palette contains colours such as colbolt blue and plum purple.

pATTERN mISMATCH
Fig 45
Pattern Mismatch is a modern way of using patterns, it combines abstract geometric shapes with fancy florals, animal prints and detailed drawings overall creating a busy vibrant aesthetic. Artists such as Jennifer Niederhauser Schlup has used this style of pattern within her artwork which has also followed onto the A/W 16 catwalk as seen by Burberry and Peter Pilotto’s ready to wear collections. A dainty, feminine trend inspired by the 1500’s renaissance dance style, Ballet. The trend consists of subtle ballet details such as ribbons, lace and blurred florals. The palette typically consists of pastel, subtle colours, including Pointe Pink, Dusty Violet and Arabesque Grey.

PRIMA BALLERINA Prima Ballerina is a sportswear trend that combines exercise and energy with grace and elegance. The trend has been influenced by iconic artists such as Edgar Degas and his famous Rehearsal in the Studio 1873 painting. Individuals such as Misty Copland, the worlds first African American Ballerina have also had a large impact resulting in influencing collections such as Rosie Huntington Whiteley Active wear Line for M&S, released earlier this year.

Sport isn’t all about getting fit anymore, its also about looking good whilst you go about this! Sweats meet style focuses on the fashion side of sportswear with garments that can be worn during exercise as well as leisure and outerwear. This trend follows a very monochrome colour palette that can be enhanced with pops of colour such as blues, greens and pinks.

Sweats meet style Sweats meet style is a trend highly driven by celebrities and influential fashion designers. It is the connection between style and sportswear breaking the barrier allowing them to become one. Internationally renown singer, Beyonce, is one to have hit this trend, bringing out her recent 2016 Collection, Ivy Park. Along with Rhianna’s 2016 and Alexander Wang X H&M 2014 sportswear Collections. .

Abstract Alignment “The Adidas Stella Sport girl is young, current and vibrant, looking to make a statement and stand out -- we wanted to bring that to life within the collection and fuse performance with style to create performance pop.� Stella McCartney, 2015 Fashionista Interview
Abstract alignment follows the continuous sports trend of bright and statement colours however this time its mixed up with a little alignment and structure. It provides more of a shaping style highlighting the natural curvature of the body as well as creating an overall sporty aesthetic. The trend follows a bright and bold palette with colours consisting of fluo green and lollipop pink.

Abstract Alignment Abstract alignment derives from sporting culture such as formula one and their protective sporting gear. The trend has influenced collections such as Emilio Pucci’s Fall 2016 Ready to Wear collection along with Adidas and Stella McCartney’s collaboration. It has also recently featured during the Berlin Premium Trade shows earlier this year. This trend has also influence sporting activities such as the ‘The Trip’ cycling class.
