Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in the Mommy Resource Guide. Please tell the moms in our network how and when you started your business. Karena Simon: I started Organize N Refine Spring 2010 after several years of freelance residential organizing. I have always had a passion for helping others and felt a sense of accomplishment when achieving personal organizational goals. I decided that in order to educate and inspire a broader audience, I needed to turn my passion for order and productivity into a business. With that passion, Organize N Refine was born. Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the types of organizational services you offer. Karena Simon: I offer a variety of residential and office organizing services. My services range from clutter relief, task and time management, residential storage solutions, closets, kitchens, bedrooms, and beyond. For business owners or the busy professional, my office organizing services include, office filing systems, computer data management/e-filing, creating a paperless office, storage solutions, and successfully preparing to move in or move out of your office. Mommy Resource Network: Do you work with both residential and business customers? Karena Simon: Yes, I work with both residential and business clients. Organizational principles can be applied to all facets of life. Mommy Resource Network: Do you feel that having an organized environment impacts other areas of your life? Karena Simon: Yes, an organized environment focuses the mind and allows us to gain better clarity over when, where, and how to take action in our lives. Whether it be your home or office, your surroundings play a large role in your ability to make immediate and precise decisions. Sorting through the old and the new things, donating, purging, and creating new space gives us all the opportunity to create change in our lives. Primarily, positive change. When we create order and rid our environment of items that keep our minds in a constant chaotic state, we then become more decisive, functional, and successful people. Becoming organized is not about being a neat freak or doing chores. Organization is a lifestyle choice. It is the choice to acknowledge our imbalanced areas and make conscious changes to find the balance that exists within each of us Mommy Resource Network: Do you work with clients outside of your immediate area? What services are available for them? Karena Simon: Yes, I provide organizational services locally and long-distance. Most of my long-distance services involve phone or web coaching. For event booking or larger hands-on residential and corporate projects, accommodations can be discussed. Email organizenrefine@gmail.com for all inquiries. Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Karena Simon: I am inspired by each and every person I meet. In business, you have to have a "How can I enhance the lives of others?" attitude. As women in business, it is important to constantly empower and uplift each other. We have power and strength when we unite. Every hurdle, every accomplishment, and every success should be used as a token of inspiration. Not a token to hoard for ourselves, but a token used to pass on to another woman in need of inspiration. I encourage each woman I meet to first, have an unwavering belief in themselves and their abilities, and create a strategic plan for success, and work relentlessly to leverage yourself and others through ethical and life-enhancing business practices. Become the standard of excellence you wish to see in the world. "Always continue the climb. It is possible for you to do whatever you choose, if you first get to know who you are and are willing to work with a power that is greater than ourselves to do it." - Ella Wheeler Wilcox "Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy." - Norman Vincent Peale
Motivate YOURSELF to Achieve Your Goals! Every person in the world devotes countless hours to thinking of their future and their present situation in life. Almost everyone wishes that there was something that they could change. Whether it is their family life, their friendships, relationships or finances, everyone wants to change something. The first step to doing that is to set goals. However, while many of us are great at trying to set goals; most of us are practically incapable of following through with them. The key to successful goal setting is your ability to motivate yourself and stay motivated until you have achieved your goals. Getting and staying motivated is not as difficult as it may seem. It just takes discipline. Let’s look at the things that you should do in order to get and stay motivated.
First, let’s take a look at what motivation really is: Motivation is not a product of outside influence; it is a natural product of your desire to achieve
something and your belief that you are capable of doing it Positive goals that are geared toward your pleasure are much more powerful motivators than negative
ones that are based on fear. The right combination of both is the most powerful and motivating mix.
Now let’s look at what you can actually do to motivate yourself and stay that way: Start with visualizing your future success and model the feelings you’ll experience when you achieve
it Mentally walk the path towards this success and base your feelings at different milestones on the way Assign a high priority to each task that you must achieve which will give each task a priority in your
mind Set a target for the amount of work you will do each day toward your goals
Visualize the desired outcome: Create a picture of what the desired outcome will look like, and have
this vision in your mind at all times Set milestones of the things you like to do and the things that you are good at Use visual indicators to monitor progress and complete the task Give yourself affirmations to remind yourself of how capable you are at reaching your goals Watch movies that motivate you Listen to music that motivates you If you work better with competition, make a deal with a friend or family member to compete for the
goal for example who gets there first! It can be hypothetical and doesn’t necessarily have to be for real Get help and support from people around you or from a professional in the field for example a per-
sonal trainer, finance manager etc. Define your own version of success, don’t let others define success for you Ignore any negative influences or responses to your efforts Make a conscious effort to do better than you have ever done in the past Focus on the positive achievements and not the negatives Share your successes with others as this will keep you focused and help you voice your accomplish-
ments which will realize your achievements for you Acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses and work on them both Train yourself to finish what you start by refusing to quit until you are done Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and don’t punish yourself for making them
I don't care how much power, brilliance or energy you have, if you don't harness it and focus it on a specific target, and hold it there you're never going to accomplish as much as your ability warrants. ~Zig Ziglar

Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in the Mommy Resource Guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Rebecca Young: I am a SAHM to 2 amazing little kids ages 3 and 15 months. I love shopping, especially for children's clothing! When I am not shopping you can usually find me knitting, sewing, baking, or chasing my two little monkeys! Mommy Resource Network: How and when did you start your business? Rebecca Young: I've had the idea for www.DressupJane.com for awhile but needed the courage to actually put it in place. About a year ago I sold some clothes to a local franchise of a children resale shop. I remember selling them one of my daughters Gymboree rompers which I paid around $7.00 new when it was on sale. Well a few weeks later, there was my romper and they were selling it for $9.99! I couldn't believe it, where was the savings? That's when I decided to finally put my idea into action. Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the quality/type/price point of the items you offer? Rebecca Young: At the moment our clothing ranges in sizes from NB-4T. We also offer some small baby accessories ( I have yet to figure out to ship a stroller). At www. DressupJane.com some of our favorite brands include Hanna Andersson, Boden, Mudpie, Baby Gap, Gymboree, Janie and Jack, The Children's Place, Crew Cuts, boutique and high end brands you won't find at your local box store. The best part is we keep things affordable! I don't believe in high mark-ups, most of the items listed are at least 50% off the retail value if not 80% off the retail value! We also offer affordable shipping, buy as much as you want and pay only $5.95 for shipping and if you spend $50, shipping is free! Mommy Resource Network: Please share with our moms some of the benefits of shopping at a re-sale shop. Rebecca Young: The #1 reason to shop at www.DressupJane.com is Money. Money you can save and money you can earn! For instance, why pay $56 dollars for a Hanna Andersson play dress and leggings when you can buy the exact same outfit for $20.00 at www.DressupJane.com. Want to make some money? www.DressupJane.com accepts consignment for your gently worn baby clothing. By consigning with us you get 60% of your sales plus store credit for the cost of shipping. All you need to do is pack up your clothing and send it to us and we will take care of the rest for you! Mommy Resource Network: Do you offer shipping throughout the U.S. and Canada? Rebecca Young: We offer shipping to U.S., Canada and around the world! Shipping is always $5.95 and when you spend over $50 shipping is free ( U.S. Only). Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Rebecca Young: My family encourages me. My husband is my biggest cheerleader, and I could not do this without him! My daughter has Sensory Processing Disorder. I started this business as a way to stay home with her, and to help with some of the cost of her treatments. So when I see her smiling, and making a breakthrough it keeps me going! Mommy Resource Network: Thank You for sharing with us.

Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in the Mommy Resource Guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Laurie Rose: I am a 39 year old, work at home mom of 4. Ages range from 16 to 2. I was a Nail Technician, owning my own salon for 16 years and have worked corporate jobs during that same time. I am also the Vice President of the PTA at my children's Elementary School and the Vice President of our local Direct Selling Women's Alliance Chapter. Mommy Resource Network: How where you introduced to Pampered Chef and when did you become a consultant? Laurie Rose: I received a Pampered Chef Gift Certificate as a wedding gift. Until then I had never even heard of the company. When I redeemed the GC I decided I wanted to have a party. I'm Italian...and I fit the stereotype...I love to cook. At the time I was working full time as a Medical Secretary and part time as a Nail Tech. When I received my host packet in the mail, I looked at the information regarding the business opportunity. My husband and I decided that I would try it out, because if it worked, it would be a great way for me to stay home when we had children but still be able to make some money. I became a consultant in January 2003. I love it just as much now as I did then! Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the products that Pampered Chef offers? Laurie Rose: We offer a wide variety of products to suit any taste and any budget. Our products consist of cookware, bakeware, baking stones, kitchen tools, entertaining essentials and a pantry line with some fantastic rubs, seasoning mixes and sauces, both savory and dessert. Our best product, however, is our New Consultant Kit! And the nicest part is, we keep no inventory, so everything comes straight from the home office! Mommy Resource Network: Please share why Pampered Chef is a great business opportunity for busy moms? Laurie Rose: I was busy when I first started. I didn't have kids yet, but working at least 60 hours a week in a spine surgeon's office and doing nails on some week nights and on weekends kept me running constantly. This is a great business opportunity for anyone that is busy because the business is YOURS. You run it how you want and when you want. And the part I really liked the best? No deliveries! Who has time for that? The Pampered Chef is very supportive of all of their consultants. Our training is free and can be done on your own time. There are online courses, telecourses and team meetings if you choose to attend. Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Laurie Rose: My inspiration is my mother. She stayed home and took care of me and I feel we have a very close bond and I'm the person I am because of that. I want the same for my children. Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in the Mommy Resource Guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Alison Muraves: I was born and raised in California, now I'm living in Tennessee and hoping to go back to college soon. I will be turning 20 this month (September) and I'm getting married this November. Mommy Resource Network: How and when did you start your business? Alison Muraves: It started when I couldn't find anything green to put in my hair for work for St. Patrick's Day, since green was not in our uniform. So I decided I was going to make something myself. I realized I had a lot of fun doing it too, so I started to make more for myself. People at my work said they would pay me to make them some, and I guess the rest is history. I thought of a name and I went with it. Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the quality/type/price point of the items you offer? Alison Muraves: I'm still working on them to look more "expensive" It's a learning process for me. I love to do any kind of crafts really so I can't say that I do just one type, I like to try it all. I know how expensive hair accessories can get so I try to have my prices affordable it can range anywhere from $4-$20. Mommy Resource Network: Are you available to do custom orders? Alison Muraves: Of course! I prefer them more than just making something just because. Mommy Resource Network: Please tell the moms in our network about one or two of your most requested pieces. Alison Muraves: One of the most requested pieces are flower clips. It can be any color they want, simple to blingy, and pretty much any flower. Plus we're allowed to wear these at my work. Another one that is very resent are the tutu's. I made one for the first time not too long ago and then orders just came flooding in for them. Which again with the tutu's, they can be any color, simple or not, and any size. Mommy Resource Network: Do you offer shipping throughout the U.S. and Canada? Alison Muraves: I do offer shipping anywhere in the U.S. I've never shipped to Canada before, but I don't see why I wouldn't if someone wanted something of mine. Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Alison Muraves: NEVER GIVE UP! That's really all too it. I would have doubts about my business because it wasn't huge. But I constantly remind myself that I'm not the only person that makes these things, but I want to be the person that they go to. So another thing is PATIENCE, one baby step at a time. Mommy Resource Network: Thank You for sharing with us.
www.BocaBeth.com
I remember one day back in 2001 . . . our daughter was only 14 months old at the time, we had just enrolled her in a nearby preschool to begin some social interaction fun after being cared for by either my husband, me, a family member or a babysitter during the first full year of her life. I was a bit hesitant to enroll her, but the care provider in the one year old room was fabulous, and I was going to be the music resource teacher for that particular preschool center so I felt I would have a great handle on her care! Now, don’t get all excited! Ms. Music became my name, but I did not inherit some amazing musical talents overnight! I don’t sing like Carrie Underwood, I don’t write songs like James Taylor nor do I profess to have the moves of Gloria Estefan. What I do have is this overly warm and sincere love of teaching young children that they ‘get.’ Wherever I travel with my Boca Beth songs the children warm up to me within minutes, they find themselves singing and dancing in both languages and most often want to hug me goodbye at the end of the class or concert! I love it! The moment I began sharing my piggyback songs at my daughter’s preschool was the moment I knew I had found my calling! I would write songs to melodies of familiar children’s music. For instance, I would take the tune “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” and write new words to match the beat while introducing a brand new concept of how to say “Hi” and “Bye” in English as well as “Hola” and “Adiós” in Spanish. These little children (being the sponges that they are between the ages of birth to five) soaked up the new songs quickly, asking for “More Boca Beth / Más Boca Beth” with each visit I made to their preschool. The Boca Beth Program was born! I had studied Spanish through my junior high and high school years, I lived in Chile and Mexico as an exchange student and had married into a Latino family so throughout the past 30 years of my life I have remained fluent in Spanish as my second language. (In fact, my former in-laws who hailed from Cuba and España used to comment that I spoke better Spanish than their own son!) My goal now is to create better communication within our increasingly diverse society by providing the youth of today a fun and easy introduction to Spanish and English with music, movement and creativity. I spent more than 15 years in preschool and elementary school classrooms prior to having our daughter and have now committed myself to focus on sharing The Boca Beth Program that now features four bilingual music CDs in Spanish and English, three bilingual educational movies, a fun coloring/ activity book in both languages, puppets and musical shakers.
Why should I even think about second languages for my preschool age child? Most of us realize the many benefits there are to being a bilingual adult but we don’t even know the other benefits derived from learning a 2nd language early in life. The latest research suggests children learning two languages before the age of five will read sooner, score higher on standardized tests and experience advanced cognitive development. Plus, it’s a requirement for students to have two years of a second language prior to the end of high school. Giving them exposure to 2nd languages early in life connects the neural pathways for later language learning. When should I begin to introduce a second language to my child? Time & Newsweek Magazines both ran feature articles on the ‘window of opportunity’ for language learning is between birth and ten years old – not middle school when our country typically begins formal language learning classes in the public school system. We actually encourage pregnant moms to listen to our upbeat and easy-to-follow bilingual songs as they drive around town. Their baby will arrive into this world already recognizing some of the sounds, phonemes, syntaxes (parts of speech) of both the native and new language. Experts agree, the earlier the better when it comes to introducing a second language to little ones – they will learn faster than an adult, retain it better and speak the new language with native or nearnative pronunciation. What if I do not speak a second language but want to give my child one? You don’t have to be a teacher and you don’t have to have second language experience to give your child the gift of what you never got yourself – a second language before elementary school! Use the internet to search for products and/or programs that fit your busy lifestyle and your child’s developmental stages. Many children love music – find a bilingual music CD in your native language and the new, target language. Many of us learn visually (68% of the population) – find a fun and easy to follow DVD that uses subtitles for the beginning reading portion of the language learning. Then there is the movement part – what child does not love to kick their feet happily to the beat or get up and dance to the new-found song?!? Make sure whatever you choose, you love. You are more likely to use it daily if you love it! Why Spanish Boca Beth? Why not Mandarin or French or some other language? There are more than 45 million Latinos living in the United States and more than 350 million worldwide. Spanish is still the most requested language program in our country of the U.S. We need to give our children the ability to communicate with and appreciate other people from other cultures. Continued on next page.
Give them some early Boca Beth bilingual fun CDs and DVDs time now, and they can choose (as a middle school student) to study Mandarin or French and will pick up that new language much more quickly and with better success than their monolingual peers. Will this confuse my preschool age child as he is learning his native language? The latest research out of Texas states that a child up to the age of 5 can learn five languages simultaneously and not get confused. The child actually will code-switch – meaning that the child will switch to French upon seeing their French-speaking friend, then to Spanish when their Spanish-speaking Mom enters the room, then to Swedish after spotting their friend from Sweden on the street and back to English in the classroom for their teacher. In a nutshell, think of how you learned your native language as a baby – word by word by word. Repetition, repetition, repetition. Experts say it is just as easy for a baby to learn two words for one item (bread/pan) as it is to learn one word for that item. Give the baby visual cues, spoken word and some opportunity for verbal and written recognition, and there you have it! The beginning of a sound foundation for later language learning. Why don’t you speak in your DVDs or sing on your CDs in only the target/new language? Many of the experts in the field of language acquisition for young children agree that while these young children are still learning their native language, they should have the target/new language presented alongside the native one. That is why I will sing “Domingo, Domingo/Sunday, Sunday” in our days of the week song. The Anglo child hears the new word in Spanish “Domingo” for the English word he is still learning “Monday.” Learning one language – great. Learning two languages – fantastic. Learning two languages with everyone smiling and having fun – priceless. That’s what we strive for with our Boca Beth fun products – English-speaking parents feeling very comfortable with the English next to the Spanish, Spanish-speaking parents feeling very comfortable with the Spanish next to the English, and all of the children learning both languages like little sponges – ready for más, more, más!!! What are the top three things that set the Boca Beth Language Learning Series apart from other bilingual products out on the market (or other language learning products for infants – two year olds)?
The Boca Beth Program teaches to the whole child with music, movement, creative visuals and beginning reading – able to assist in reaching your child’s developmental milestones. Our products are teacher-created and classroom-tested requiring no second language experience. Using our Boca Beth bilingual products creates an integrated, multimedia classroom for a fun second language journey. The format presented in our Boca Beth Language Learning Series is a true, bilingual one where each language is given equal time – allowing for language learning to take place with no confusion. If I had only $20 to spend, what would you suggest I start with from the Boca Beth bilingual product line for my preschool age child? I would buy the My First Songs in Spanish music CD ($14.99) and our Sing Praise for Children bilingual Christian music CD ($6.99) and play them during car travel time, playroom time, church preschool time and any other CD time you might have as a family. Sing the lyrics with your child or shake a small rhythm instrument to the beat gently or sway back and forth to the beat of our catchy Spanish and English songs. Use code bocarocks to get 20% off these CDs and save!
Our local recreation center offers a once-a-week Mommy and Child Spanish class – should I go? Will it help? Any language fun time you can find for you and your baby to share together is great! I will warn you that the experts agree, once a week is not enough to get a sound jump start on becoming bilingual later in life. Daily exposure is the key to successful language acquisition. Songs in the car as reinforcement, DVD fun as educational/entertaining visual cues, personal interaction with parent/family member/ caregiver associated with the new language learning are all great ways to bring the language journey into your daily routine. We offer free bilingual resources, tips, tools and techniques on our web site! Take advantage of being able to access them 24/7. How do I learn along with my child? What tricks are there for those of us who want to learn at this age? Immersion is the key to successful language learning after the age of ten-twelve. At that point the brain has switched the way in which it acquires new languages – making total immersion (surrounding oneself with only the new language for long periods of time) the key to success. Unlike babies, toddlers and preschoolers who are still learning their native language, adult brains need to hear, speak and read the target/new language morning, noon and night in order to learn and retain it. We have many adults who tell us that they are learning their high school Spanish all over again with our Boca Beth products as their child learns! We currently offer 730+ words and 270+ phrases being introduced – not bad for a language program that costs less than the standard car seat, travels easily to Grandma’s in a brightly colored backpack and has a how to guide that takes all of 5 minutes to read!
Going Back to School as a Mom
Organization is the Key to Success If you're a mom who's headed back to school, you want to get serious about time management, delegating, well, everything. Here are nine tips to help you get both you and your children back to school easily, confidently and most importantly, quickly! Ditch Perfectionism. The dust on top of the furniture? Protective covering. Smudge on the front door? All your best friends come to the back door anyway. Perfection isn't everything, especially when you have a test to prepare for. Delegate. Even young children--and husbands!--can pitch in. And they should, no matter what Mom's doing. Helping gives children (and Dads) a feeling of competence and confidence which helps their self-esteem (yes, Dads, too). Be Realistic. No one, not even Oprah or Martha Stewart, has it all or can do it all. Don't believe me? Then tell me why Oprah gave her best friend a million dollars? For all the help she gave Oprah along the way, that's why. Celebrities have staffs who do it all for them, they don't do it themselves--and neither can you, unless you employ a staff of 20 full-time people. Keep expectations of what you can and cannot do in any 24-hour day realistic, and both you and your family will be a lot happier. Flexibility Is Queen Every Day. When you're juggling school, work and family, you have to be flexible and be able to shift priorities quickly. Think of life as one large yoga exercise, and be ready to bend and stretch as needed, when needed. Play Beat The Clock. Setting deadlines is a great way to motivate you to take care of the most important priorities. Create deadlines for your tough chores and assignments (and your children's) and put a portion of your time aside each day to tackle the largest ones. This will keep you from getting crazed the night before your midterm when your son's science project is due the next day
Organize, Organize, Organize. Don't just talk about it, do it. Pack lunches, lay out clothes, bathe, get book bags ready, and set out dishes and non-perishable breakfast items the night before. This will not only save you time in the mornings, but also make them far less stressful overall. Have a place for everything--make sure everyone knows where those places are, and let them go there all by themselves! Know Your Prime Time. Everyone has a time of day or night when they perform some tasks better than others. For example, studying may be easier at night after everyone's gone to bed, and mornings are your best time for household chores. Take time to learn what your prime time is for the truly important tasks you need to accomplish daily--then use it to your advantage. Don't Learn To Say No, Say It! We all know how to say "No", we simply don't do it often enough. Don't let yourself be bullied or guilt-tripped into taking on projects or volunteer work that strips you of valuable time you need to spend elsewhere. You won't be in school forever, and those volunteer organizations will still be around when you're finished and have more time. Reward Yourself. You are marvelous, Mom! Just look at everything you do every day--and on top of it all, you're acing school and making it to your daughter's swim meets and your son's soccer games, and on time! Have that bowl of ice cream (two scoops is fine, really), and give yourself a pat on the back. You deserve it!

Please meet Stacey Everett, Senior Group Leader & Design Consultant with Willow House Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in the Mommy Resource Guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Stacey Everett: Hi, I'm Stacey with WIllow House (formerly Southern Living At Home). I have to amazing children, my son, Ryan and daughter, Briceson. I also have 2 dogs Cotton and Daisy and 1 cat Cali-boo. I have been married to my high school sweetie, Chris for 21 years. I have always had passion for decorating and meeting people and making new friends, so for the past 5 years, I have sold home décor, which is my first passion and now in addition to accessorizing my home, I get to accessorize my outfit with beautiful designer jewelry! I am so excited! Mommy Resource Network: How where you introduced to Willow House and when did you become a consultant? Stacey Everett: I was introduced to Willow House (well back when it was Southern Living at home) about 7 years ago when I went to my first party. Like everyone else, I was a little overwhelmed but just felt the ~I need that ~mood come across me. The consultant tried her best for quite a while to get me to join but I kept giving her different excuses, until one day a dear friend of mine out of the blue decided she wanted to join (and did). Well, I saw here go from the just opening the kit to knocking out of the ball park in just a couple of months and this was after she let her kit sit unopened for 2 months(really), not being able to talk in front of people and not really into the whole thing, but she excelled fast! After witnessing her success, I said sign me up and that was 5 years ago and I wouldn’t change a thing ...I love to party for a living! Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the products that Willow House offers? Stacey Everett: One of my favorite jobs is to train people to do what I do and help people be as successful as they can be with this business and after 5 years in the industry, I will do my best to support you! We are the first company to create a LIFESTYLE company, one in which I OWN my business and can choose to sell either home decor, jewelry or BOTH! What fun! I feel so lucky to have ONE company and business model with two opportunities! It's so exciting!!! I truly can't stand it! ;) Look around and you’ll find that Willow House is the most compelling home-based business experience in America. Our Design Consultants help each guest identify a personal decorating style, sharing seasonal color trends and explaining how they’re reflected in our exclusive Willow House products. In addition to sharing our products and ideas at parties, we’ve recently empowered our Design Consultants to sell online so guests can shop between parties. And we’re not finished innovating — late this year, we will launch a new media-rich community. And, early next year, we’ll reveal a whole new way to shop online with an expanding collection of enhanced eBoutiques. We believe strongly in a philosophy of simply good design for our extensive product line. A well-designed product is something that will last, passing from one generation to the next. And it should make you happy each time you use it — in fact, each time you look at it. Good design should be accessible and affordable, because the days of fussy and overpriced products are gone forever. Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in the Mommy Resource Guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Ashley Pulsifer: My name is Ashley and I am a 22 year old female living in the small town of Bethel, VT. I love to work with my hands, and I love unique plants. My goal is to be able to be a stay at home mom when I have kids. I have so many things that I want to do that it's hard for me to focus on one aspect at a time. Even though I read things over and over about how you should runs a business, and it's not about doing everything, it's about driving one or a few things the best you can. Well that is just not me, so you will see my shop have a ton of different things once I get to making them. Mommy Resource Network: How and when did you start your business? Ashley Pulsifer: I officially opened my etsy shop on April 15th 2011, with just my Juice Carton Wallets. I also sold them to my co-workers at that time. I didn't want any overhead at first because I wasn't sure how far this was going to go. I know in order to start a business you need to not fear debt, but I have a brand new car, and I was still living with my mom at the time so I was on the hunt for an apartment. That's one reason I don't have all the products for sale that I really want. I did a ton of research on etsy and found that this would be a better way to go instead of my own website, the advertising was better, and the shoppers there are looking for handmade items, I also know a little html, but not enough for me to get the website I want, and I don't have a lot of money to pay someone to do it for me. Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the quality/type/price point of the items you offer? Ashley Pulsifer: At the moment I just offer Juice Carton Wallets, Bottle Cap and Guitar Pick Jewelry. These items are relatively easy to make with the right tools, the wallets take the longest, at least 15 minutes per wallet. I try to make each item perfect, but I know nothing is perfect, but if it doesn't match my standard and I wouldn't want it for myself, then I make a better one, as I want to make sure the best goes out of my shop. Pricing is the hardest part for me, I just made up this weird formula and went with it, so I may be charging over or under, but I have been researching for the best formula so I can make sure I am not over or under charging. But at my shop you can buy a gift for under $10, The highest prices are on my sets of necklaces or earrings. I will have homemade pure vanilla extract available in November, just in time for the Holidays! My second one was a big order, the customer wanted her favorite band picks made into earrings and necklace pendants, We found graphic printed guitar picks on a website and ordered them, it was a 38 piece order. She loved it! And I loved the feel of doing something so big and important. Mommy Resource Network: Please tell the moms in our network about one or two of your most requested pieces. Ashley Pulsifer: Between my etsy shop and co-workers the most 2 requested pieces are the Guitar Pick Earrings, and the Juice Carton Wallets. So many of the ladies I work with have the Guitar Pick Earrings, they love them, most have the dark blue which is a gorgeous color. And a lot of my co-workers have bought the wallets for their kids, grand-kids, and one lady bought 10 for her son's birthday party, she gave them away as party favors. Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Ashley Pulsifer: I feel that if you really want to accomplish something it needs to be for YOU, that is the only way you will stick to it. But I do want this for my kids, I want to be there for them. Everyone tells me you will never be truly ready to have kids, and I believe that, but this will help me to be ready, and it will be very important because I will be able to be there for them all the time. Congrats to all those WAHM, I can't wait to be right there with you! Mommy Resource Network: Thank You for sharing with us.

I encourage people to watch the video Our Story http://stylewatch.stelladot.com/content/videos/ourstory/#ooid=AwaXZjMjpZ9a5Mf7mCeD2-J0DaTX9dIT,ltd3llMjorIGBJUpEiNhJRbJKnrl7Exq Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Dana Brillante-Peller: I know it may sound cheesy, but I always think "Just Do It!". If there is something that interests you, try it out...I used to be so hesitant to do something out of my comfort zone - and in the case of Stella & Dot, I am so happy that I did!! I get to meet new people and make money at the same time!!! Mommy Resource Network: Thank You for sharing with us.

Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in our fall guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Stephanie Coradin: I’m a wife and mom of two wonderful daughters, besides English, I speak and write Haitian Creole and French fluently. I am a laid back and easy going person – My friends tell me I should be a psychologist /life coach as I am such a great listener and always tend to see the bright side of things. I am a huge fan of Bob Marley’s music and I love Beres Hammond’s music as well. I like to travel but, in my opinion, nowhere can beat the beaches of my parents’ native country Haiti! Mommy Resource Network: How and when did you start Dembo Inc and how did you come up with the name? Stephanie Coradin: I started my business a little over two years ago when I was pregnant with my second daughter – I needed something to do while on maternity leave. I did customer service from home for the time that I was on leave and went back to work but I couldn’t get back into the “9 to 5” routine, so I started doing some research on how I can build on what I already had and so when I stumbled upon virtual assistance I got a big light bulb and Dembo Inc, Administrative Support Services evolved into what it is today. When I put in the bid for the customer service gig back when I was planning my maternity leave, I didn’t have my business in place and didn’t even have a name so when my bid was accepted I had very little time to legalize my business – Dembo is actually a nickname my husband picked up from grade school which has not left him so when scrapping for a name I figured why not name my top supporter (aside from my mom). That’s how Dembo Incorporated came to life. Mommy Resource Network: Please tell the mompreneurs about the services you offer? Stephanie Coradin: I work with small business owners to provide them with administrative support across the board – I do everything from checking (and replying to) my clients’ emails to making sure their business plan is still serving them. The basis of my services is to ensure that small business owners have the support they need so they can concentrate on ways to grow their business. I customize packages to fit each client’s needs and I work on retainer/monthly plans because that is the only way I can get to know my clients and their businesses in order for me to help them brainstorm and grow. Special projects are considered on a case by case basis. Mommy Resource Network: Please share with the mompreneurs the benefits of working with a Virtual Assistant vs. a traditional assistance. Stephanie Coradin: Well these benefits may vary from one business owner to the next but the ones that stand out are: - The convenience of having the needed support even if you don’t have enough space or a big enough workload to hire an employee. -More flexibility (i.e. you can be location independent) - Teaming up with another business owner (an Administrative Expert) gives more peace of mind with respect to the way your work is getting done the VA has more at stake. Please do your research before partnering with a Virtual Assistant. Mommy Resource Network: Please share with the mompreneurs a little information regarding your social media management services. Stephanie Coradin: It seems as if technology is evolving every day and for us business owners this means more exposure but it also means spending much more time keeping up your social presence in the online world. I help take that load off your shoulders – Once I know what your business is about and what you stand for, I can easily and seamlessly keep up your social presence so that you don’t get lost in the social media world. Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Stephanie Coradin: I listen to Joyce Meyer’s audio book “Battlefield of the Minds” this is definitely a great way for me to remind myself that I want to live my life on purpose. Mommy Resource Network: Thank You for sharing with us.

Tori Molnar is the fourteen year old President and CEO of Utoria, LLC. Utoria is a creative company that assists and educates young women in becoming entrepreneurs and/or business women. Ms. Molnar founded Utoria in late 2010 to help some of her friends earn money through the only way that she ever knew how, starting their own business! About six months later, she also founded the “She Can Make Change” organization. She Can Make Change is developing into a noteworthy organization which will help young women in many different ways with the objective of putting “Change” in their pocket, as well as, knowing how to make positive “Change” for themselves and the world around them! Ms. Molnar decided to attend the 2010 Pennsylvania Governor’s Conference for Women and learned a lot from the experience. “Listening to people like Mae Jemison, was an amazing experience.” She says, “I never even thought I could be in the same room as women like her.” One of the main reasons for attending for Ms. Molnar, was the opportunity to meet with Tory Johnson. Tory Johnson had been a fascinating role model in the world of business women. After waiting in line for two hours, she got the chance to meet Tory, and that experience went really well. Tory Johnson is now one of her main mentors as she continues her climb to the top of the entrepreneurial ladder. Ms. Molnar’s journey towards success has not always been simple and easy, she has had to overcome some obstacles along the way. Tori has had a life long struggle with Cerebral Palsy, a disease which effects her muscles and makes doing many regular teenage activities somewhat difficult. She considers herself extremely fortunate to be able to function much better than most young people that have been affected because of her continued hard work with treatments, therapies, and exercise. Ms. Molnar’s biological Father, Rodger Molnar, passed away when she was only eighteen months old. Rodger Molnar was a very outgoing Motocross champion who believed that his daughter would someday be a champion too. She is now doing just that, on her own terms. These parts of her life journey taught many valuable lessons. Ms. Molnar currently resides in Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania, which is located South of Pittsburgh, PA, with her Mother, Step-Father, and Brother. She and her Brother love the outdoors and spending summers on the Monongahela River while boating and swimming. The family also enjoys participating in riding dirt bikes, ATV’s. etc. Tori Molnar is an inspiration for any teenager that has a dream. Seeing what Ms. Molnar has already accomplished shows any young woman that if you have some determination, you can accomplish any dream you have, no matter how big or small.

Discovering the American Dream of Home Ownership From financial security to picking out your own paint colors, why rent when you can buy a home? Buying a house brings stability and pride of ownership to neighborhoods. Although I tend to think that right now is the best time for buying a house, I realize there may be obstacles. But when the time is right buying a house creates many financial advantages that you cannot afford to overlook. Renters, I guess could consider depending on the landlord to fix the water heater a slight advantage. But if you have been a renter, you know that relying on your landlord when the plumbing leaks or the heating and air conditioning goes out is never a pleasant experience. The first and most obvious disadvantage to renting is that you lose the opportunity to create equity. When you pay rent what do you get in return? Well, of course, you get a roof over your head and a place to sleep but where does the money go? It moves straight into the savings account of the landlord. Your money is used by the landlord to reduce his home loan and benefit from the gradual build up of equity. Instead of benefiting the landlord why not take advantage of building your own equity by buying a house instead of renting. Over time, the house increases in value and instead of paying the landlord who gets the benefit of creating equity, you enjoy that benefit. Many people agree that home ownership is better than renting but feel that they can't afford a mortgage but there are many new programs and we have some new vendors to help you out with this challenge. Although the mortgage payment is often higher than renting the US Government wants you to own a home. So it allows you to write off a percentage of your mortgage interest payments when you file your yearly tax return. This results in a major reduction of the true cost to home owners.
In addition you also have the opportunity to take your property taxes as a deduction against your income reducing your tax burden. There may be other income tax benefits also. Remember, is always wise to ask a CPA (certified public accountant) how tax laws relate to your personal situation. Another disadvantage to renting is that rents continue to rise and they always will. You can count on that. Owning a home is the best way to protect against rent increases. Then as your income grows you can plan for your future knowing that your house payment will remain steady. This benefit may seem small but eliminating the fear of rising home costs over a long period of time helps give many families the security to plan well for the future. Another drawback for the renter is the restriction of expressing your personal style. Even if the landlord allows you to decorate, you are unlikely to create a style that truly reflects you. Anyway, who wants to spend their hard-earned money to improve the landlord's investment. Home ownership turns houses into homes. You can paint inside and out with colors that you want. You can dress up the house according to your taste. You can plant the palm tree you always wanted. You can feel comfortable knowing your house is a reflection of your personality and style. We often call this pride of ownership and it's what America is all about at its core. That is because buying a home, building equity, establishing financial security for our families, and expressing that in our communities makes us all better citizens. Ultimately, having a place that we call our own is part of the American Dream. It makes us happy and isn't that what our forefathers meant when they wrote in the constitution that we have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness

BEFORE
AFTER
I started my journey in January 2010. I had tried everything to lose weight and nothing had worked. I was my largest ever. Desperate and depressed, I made a choice to try one more thing. I got hooked up with this program and from that moment on, my life hasn't been the same. To date, I have lost 125 pounds! Now I am the person in the before and after pics that I once thought were too good to be true. The best part was that it was really not that hard. I simply followed the program as outlined and the rest is history. I still have to pinch myself.. I no longer have health issues related to being overweight. I run 5Ks, and will ran my first Warrior Dash Mud Run. I am doing karate too!...It's been amazing, and I can't wait to seeing what the coming years have in store. I would love to help you reach your goals. Millions of Americans are caught in an obesigenic world that is plagued with fast food options around every corner, poor eating habits, a general lack of activity, high stress environments, insufficient sleep, and a "sickcare" health system. In this unsupportive environment, it is no wonder that two-thirds of adult Americans are overweight, and the predicted health of future generations is even more uncertain. This program offers a simple solution: high-quality, medically formulated meal replacements combined with free coaching support to help you lose weight and keep it off. It is not a diet, but a two-phased approach for weight loss and maintenance. You will use portion-controlled meal replacements to lose up to two to five pounds a week, without surgery or medications. As your Health Coach, I will be a free resource that will guide you through the program and provide on-going personal coaching. I will help you build up the knowledge, skills, and support you need to realize health and help keep you focused on your long-term goals.

Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have carolyncrowndesigns featured in our guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. carolyncrowndesigns: I’m a self-taught graphic designer who’s been in the industry for over 10 years. I also have one son, Patrick, who is about to turn three years old. He has inspired several of my products. Mommy Resource Network: How and why did you start your business? carolyncrowndesigns: I like to be creative and didn’t always have an opportunity for that in my previous jobs. So I began to take side jobs like logo creation, wedding stationery, etc. People really liked my portfolio so I thought, “Why not start my own business and see where I can take it?” Mommy Resource Network: Can you tell our readers about some of the products you offer? carolyncrowndesigns: Absolutely! I offer party and wedding invitations, birth announcements, handmade holiday crafts, family genealogy charts, gifts, and more (all personalized). And, of course, I offer award-winning custom graphic design for anything you can imagine. And if you don’t see what you’re looking for, just ask! Mommy Resource Network: You mentioned that your son has inspired several of your products. Which ones, specifically? carolyncrowndesigns: My favorites are my children’s books! I actually wrote them for Patrick (and he is the main character). They’re educational and were written to foster interaction between parent and child. I’ve published two so far: Patrick and Royal Learn About Shapes and Patrick and Royal Learn About Colors. Mommy Resource Network: How can the moms in our network purchase from you? carolyncrowndesigns: They can order directly through my online store. And I’d LOVE if they’d join me on Facebook to see lots of photos and keep up on the latest news! Mommy Resource Network: Thank you.

Our Classes:
Childbirth Preparation 44 E. 32nd St. 11th Floor NYC, NY 10016 Breastfeeding
We at Stork and Cradle strongly believe birth is a normal physical, spiritual, and social rite of passage for families. Women and their partners are encouraged to tap into their inner stores of strength, confidence, knowledge, and intuition to prepare themselves to give birth. These classes are a soulful approach to birthing and breastfeeding success. We are here to mentor you in giving birth as necessary for your body, your beliefs, and your baby.
Baby Care and Safety Infant CPR Lactation Consultation
Our mission is to empower women and their partners. We give you tools to make informed decisions and feel confident. This is important in order to build a trusting relationship with obstetricians and midwives so you may have a satisfying birth experience. Childbirth is a profound rite of passage, not a medical event (even when medical care is part of the birth) The essence of childbirth preparation is self-discovery, not assimilating obstetric information. Active, creative self-expression is critical to childbirth preparation. The purpose of childbirth preparation is to prepare mothers to give birth-in-awareness, not to achieve a specific birth outcome.

I started it a little over a month ago. Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the quality/type/price point of the items you offer? Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in the Mommy Resource Guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Jasmina Radosavac: Well, my name is Jasmina and I am a stay-at-home mommy of 2 beautiful girls - 9 and 6 years old. I am your typical bookworm - every time I have some free minutes on my hand, I reach for the book. Mommy Resource Network: How and when did you start your business? Jasmina Radosavac: It happened in mid 2008. We were facing the worse economy crises and were struggling. I was bound to stay home with the kids and felt powerless to help my husband make ends meet. So I turned to the one thing (other than the books) that I always loved and could never have enough of - bath and body products. I thought if it doesnt sell, I can always use it myself. Had a little problem finding a name and then I remembered Enigma's song "Gregorian Chant" and how hypnotizing it was - especially when the girl was whispering "Mea Culpa". So, here I am - serving your guilty pleasures. Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the quality/type/price point of the items you offer? Jasmina Radosavac: I make everything from scratch. I avoid fragrance oils that contain phtalate and avoid preservatives that contain parabens. So, my products are 100% harmful chemicals free. Every ingredient that is listed - you can actually pronounce it and know what it is. This way, the creams are actually creams - not water filled mineral oil mixes that have popular butters listed only to sell to the public, when those actual beneficial ingredients are in such low percentages that they can hardly make a difference. With my creams and soaps - you actually feel it right away. The soaps I make are not beauty bars as you will see them in the stores. Beauty bar is in fact detergent. They cant label it soap, because its not. Real soap is made of water, butters, oils and lye. Nothing else. So with me, you get the real thing. My prices depend on the weight and the ingredients. They range from 1.75 to 8.99. Right now I have a 40% off slashed from the creams. I want to offer wholesale prices for the people, economy is hard and it should be that hard to find a good product without paying an arm and a leg. Mommy Resource Network: Are you available to do custom orders? Jasmina Radosavac: Yes, I get custom requests. Usually its for a scent. I try my hardest to accommodate the person and if I cant - if I dont have the means to go through with it, I let them know. A lot of times I special order scents so everyone can be happy and satisfied. I like pleasing and helping people. Mommy Resource Network: Please tell the moms in our network about one or two of your most requested pieces. Jasmina Radosavac: People seem to prefer the goats milk creams with shea butter. They are rich, luxurious and they really are a heaven for extremely dry skin. Thats from the products. Now from the scents - I have two very different fragrances that people just love. Thats Lush's dupe Liquid Crack, which is candy-liscious and Bella's Kiss which is Twilight inspired and very light, floral and feminine. Mommy Resource Network: Do you offer shipping throughout the U.S. and Canada? Jasmina Radosavac: Absolutely! Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Jasmina Radosavac: My biggest inspiration was an incident that happened to me. One day I just shaved my legs and thought of using whatever left from the Victoria's Secret lotion that I had. Well, it burned my skin! I was even more determined to not let this happen anymore and offer people that chance too. Never, ever did I ever thought that this business idea might not work. Everyone around me was very skeptical and they voiced that. But, if you let other peoples opinion leave even a little doubt in you - you will fail. Always keep your head up and see yourself as you want to be in the future. Feel that way too and good things will come. Mommy Resource Network: Thank You for sharing with us.
Gianna Hart Artisan Hand made crochet items for the entire family. Please contact me directly at gigi@whimsicalcrochet.com for custom orders. Look for us on facebook today. “Whimsical Crochet and Crafts Special Thanks to Brooke Price Photography. www.brookepricephotos.com
Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in our fall guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Gianna Harts: I am a wife to a wonderful man, and a mother of five (5) fantastic children (Mackenzie 17, Stephanie 16, Kiersten 15, Alexander 6, and Troy 4). I am the office administrator for my husband’s telecommunication company, and lead worship service at a local church, as well as, volunteer my time with local faith based ministries. In addition to that, I work an administrative job outside the home about 15 hours a week (which is more for my sanity and helps keep me from talking like a child all the time – those of you with small children at home can understand that one). Needless to say, my schedule and plate are very full. There are many things that I can do well, but only a few things that bring enjoyment and relaxation. Crocheting is one of those things, and it winds up being a double blessing, because for as much pleasure as it brings me, I love seeing how the items I create bless the individuals that those items were uniquely created for. Mommy Resource Network: How and when did you start Whimsical Crochet and Crafts? Gianna Harts: I started crocheting when my son Alexander was born (late 2004). Being a stay at home mom, I was really interested in learning how to make/create items for my children and family – things like tie-fleece blankets, toothbrush rugs for the bathrooms, and basic crochet items like washcloths, dish towels, and very simple baby blankets. As the children got older, and I didn’t have room in my closets for blankets and wash cloths and towels anymore, I began to create things for children at church, friends, and family members. At the beginning of this year, I noticed an increase in people requesting cute, fun items for their children and to be used as photo props. So, I decided to turn my love for crafting and crocheting into a business that could help support my family (ok so the family would say I did it to support my addiction to crocheting). Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the quality/type/price point of the items you offer? Gianna Harts: All of my items are handmade. I not only crochet hats, headbands, blankets, capes, scarves, and photo props, but also create toothbrush rugs, and tie-fleece blankets. My clients choose the color and size of the item they desire, as well as, any changes/additions in the original pattern. The crochet items range in price from $8 to $35 – some of the heirloom items can be over $35 depending on the customer’s choices. Toothbrush rugs, are sometimes called “rag rugs”, and a basic 1-color, 3’ fabric rug starts at $35. These rugs can be made in round or oval shapes and can have more than one fabric color. The tie-fleece blankets start at $25 for 3’ x 54” or 60” – each blanket has a solid color fleece paired with a pattern fleece. Mommy Resource Network: Are you available to do custom orders? Gianna Harts: Yes, I am available for custom work. Mommy Resource Network: Please tell the moms in our network about one or two of your most requested pieces. Gianna Harts: The Crossed Stitch Newsboy hat with a rosette and the Mystic Owl Hat are two of my most requested pieces. The Mystic Owl is a standard beanie shape with earflaps and color coordinating braids that attach to the earflaps. The eyes are large and round with button centers, and the ears are created with a separate crocheted square that is trimmed with fun fur or feather yarn. This item comes in sizes newborn to adult. The crossed stitch newsboy hat is just such a cute style with a small brim and varying stitches that start at the top of the hat like a traditional beanie but then changes to a more open stitch called the “crossed stitch”. The rosette is created in a complimentary or coordinating color from the hat color. This hat can be made with the rosette attached permanently to the side of it; or as a pin/clip that can be removed when you don’t want it on. The basic style is unisex and can be made without the large rosette. This item comes in sizes newborn to adult. Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Gianna Harts: It takes courage to face the fears that come with attaining your dream. Don’t let yourself be so afraid to fail that you never succeed in taking even the slightest step towards it. Mommy Resource Network: Thank You for sharing with us.

Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in our fall guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Olivia Taylor: My name is Olivia Taylor. I am a twenty-year old Psychology Major at University of Maryland University College and I am also an Assistant Director at a School Age Child Care program. Working with children and being a positive role model in their life is the ultimate reward to me. I wouldn't give it up for the world. Amongst being busy with school and work, I try to find peace and serenity in my craft making. Ever since I can remember, I have been drawing and crafting. It is a huge passion of mine and I'd love to make that into something I can do every day for a living. Mommy Resource Network: How and when did you start Catherine Anna Designs? Olivia Taylor: I started by business June 2011. For years, I have been making little odds and ends and my mother had always told me that I should start selling my stuff. It was when I decided that buying hair accessories at Claire's or any other store was just far too expensive that I decided that I was going to start a business of my own with affordable hair accessories. Since then, I have been making quite a few sales and have even been selling my things in a local hair salon. I am currently trying to expand my business, as I have now started selling and making flip flops, amongst other speciality items. Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the quality/type/price point of the items you offer? Olivia Taylor: I work very hard to assure the quality of my work. If an item is not perfect in my eyes, I do not put it up for sale. I put 100% into everything that I do and make sure that all of the materials I buy are in perfect shape. The type of items that I offer are flower (and bottlecap flowers) clips/headbands/bobby pins, bows, bottle cap bows, and flip flops. These items are for ALL ages and I work with the customer to make sure that it is exactly what they want. I am currently looking to expand into tutus - specifically for Halloween -, custom onesies, and even dog clothing. Pricing varies depending on the items, but I try to keep them low. Hair accessories range from the $1-$15 range and I am always offering deals. If you're looking for a bulk order, I work with the customer to come up with a deal. Flip Flops are $15-$20, depending on size and accessories added to them. Mommy Resource Network: Are you available to do custom orders? Olivia Taylor: Yes, I am always available to do custom orders. In fact, that is how I make most of my business. I will work with you, so, that you get exactly what you are looking for. Once I make the item, I email a picture to the customer for review and if they are not happy with it, we keep working until it is exactly right. I will not sell a customer anything that I wouldn't wear myself or want my future child to wear. Mommy Resource Network: Please tell the moms in our network about one or two of your most requested pieces. Olivia Taylor: Being as I make a lot of my money off of custom orders, most of the requested pieces that I get are based on flower clips to match a wedding parties dresses. I make sure the flower is the exact size, style, and color that the Bride is requesting. I pay special attention to these details because even a thing such as a clip that goes in your hair is very important to a Bride on her wedding day. Continued on next page.
Since I live in Maryland, another HUGE hit with the customers is my sports teams related items. For us Marylanders, it's the Ravens and my Ravens clips are ones that I always have requests for. As soon as they hit the salon that I sell some of my items in, they're gone in a minute! These clips are usually flower clips of a medium size in the sports teams colors. The Ravens ones that are most popular are black and purple with a glittery look to them. Instead of a rhinestone center, these flowers feature a rhinestone "B" for Baltimore. I can do this with any sports team. Mommy Resource Network: Do you offer shipping throughout the U.S. and Canada? Olivia Taylor: Yes, of course. My shipping and handling fees are very low, as well. Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Olivia Taylor: This isn't exactly business related, but a huge inspiration to me that has encouraged me not to give up on this business is my grandmother, Catherine Biddinger. When I was eight years old, my grandmother passed away due to Ovarian Cancer; however, she fought and battled the whole way. She is one of the strongest women that I have ever known and she is the inspiration for my business, as well as the name of the business. I want to be successful at this and eventually make enough so that I can donate to Ovarian Cancer research. Her strength is what keeps me motivated in everything that I do.

Please tell the moms in our network a little about yourself: My son calls me “mommy” my husband calls me “love” and I shall have you call me Coach J. For the past couple of years I have found myself creating opportunities that would never exist had I not sought after or created the opportunities I have obtained. My birthday is the day before Independence Day maybe that attributes to my independent, free-spirited, and outgoing style. Whatever the case I have been driven and self-motivated throughout my life. I have deemed myself to be an opportunist, motivational speaker, & empowerment coach. An additional title can be added behind my name, Author. I recently completed my first book Learn How I Made a Fortune While In College: Real-life Student Strategy Guide. Within this book I share how I graduated with 60k less debt by obtaining scholarships that were not available, life lessons that I learned from and leadership skills that will keep students making money beyond college. I am a proud graduate of Winston-Salem State University, where I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. I earned my MBA from the University of Phoenix and I am currently an Adjunct Instructor at York Technical College. How/when did you start your business? As long as I can remember I have had a drive for self-sufficiency, entrepreneurial spirit and a love to serve others. SMJ Speaks, LLC was developed in January 2011. What was your inspiration behind starting your company? I wasn’t someone who always believed in myself. I often time relied on the thoughts of others to make me feel better. While working in corporate America I chased the opportunity instead of creating the opportunity. It wasn’t until the final let down of my life corporate chase that I decided once again in my life to take control of the steering wheel. After much soul searching, several failures and lots of questioning; I decided that I must become who God designed me to be ME. I stepped out on faith! Tell us a little more about the services you offer? SMJ SPEAKS, LLC is a life coaching company created for the EMPOWERMENT of people. I believes that everyone is UNIQUE and that we possess greatness inside of us. I encourage self-love and self-worth to be the FOUNDATION of understanding the you within. I am your biggest advocate working with you to develop strengths, tackle weaknesses and explore unlimited potential. We offer 1 on 1 Coaching for Tweens to Twenties; Women & Girl Empowerment Workshops; Speaking (Keynote Speaker, Workshop Presenter); and Teleseminar & webinars. Our services are available to everyone regardless of location. Tell the moms in our network more about your new book? Learn How I Made A Fortune While In College: A Real-life Student Strategy Guide will be available in early August. I am so excited to share with parents, students, corporations, administrators and everyone else on the subject How I Made a Fortune While in College! It's my story of persistence, perseverance, resiliency, motivation, and drive that allowed me to graduate with less debt in fact $60,000 worth of scholarships, grants, work-study and a parttime job. I know you are probably thinking $60,000, hurry up and show me the money. Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not harm you! Plans to give you hope and a future. Take it one day at a time! You must always believe in you FIRST.
Motherhood is certainly a life-changing event. Our children become the center of our lives, and we must make adjustments to make sure they’re cared for. Instead of hiring a babysitter, more and more moms are choosing to start their own businesses so they can be there for their kids and still contribute to the family income. Self-employment offers a certain amount of flexibility. But in most businesses, a certain amount of time outside the home is required. At the very least, you’ll need to meet with clients in your home. This can be rather inconvenient for moms, especially when they have small children. So many of them are looking for opportunities to make money online. Starting an online business has a number of advantages for moms. These include: Start-up costs for an online business are often low. So even if you are not currently work-
ing outside the home, starting an online business is usually within reach. Setting up a website and buying some software are often all that’s needed to get started, and that can be accomplished for a few hundred dollars or less. Doing business online doesn’t require one to keep regular hours. You can work early in the
morning before the kids get up, during the baby’s nap, or late at night when everyone is in bed. And with the automation that the Internet has to offer, orders can be processed and virtual products delivered while you are sleeping or taking care of the kids. You can get some work done with the kids right by your side. Older children may even be
able to help you with simple tasks.
There are all sorts of online businesses that are great for moms. You could sell your crafts on eBay or Etsy.com, or you could start your own ecommerce website. You might offer services such as writing, transcription, web design or virtual assistance to customers around the world. Or you could create and sell information products. Even blogging offers impressive money-making potential. The possibilities are many, and there’s sure to be something out there that’s just right for any mom. Moms make up a large portion of the people who are making money online. This allows them to take a hands-on approach to raising their children while still making money to support the household. They don’t have to count on a sitter to take care of their children’s needs, and they don’t have to make a commute part of their daily routine. It’s no wonder that the number of moms starting online businesses is growing in leaps and bounds.
Do not wait; the time will never be ''just right.'' Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along. ~Napoleon Hill

Kaitlyn’s Klips: Well the name came from my daughter, Kaitlyn. I love to put things in her hair and a lot of times when I would look for different things, I wasn’t able to find them. I decided to try to make them myself and received a lot of compliments and I thought this would be a great business. Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little bit more about the hair accessories you offer. Kaitlyn’s Klips: I custom make all of the accessories in my product line, so my limitation is based on my clients imagination. We offer clips, bows, headbands, hats, ribbons and much more. Mommy Resource Network: That is great!! What I noticed is you have a lot of trendy designs, is that more of your niche? Kaitlyn’s Klips: I try to offer items that I like and I like unique and trendy accessories that will allow your child to stand out. Mommy Resource Network: Tell us about some of your most popular items. Kaitlyn’s Klips: Our headbands have been a big seller. They are crocheted and can fit anyone from newborns to adults. The flower accessories on the headbands are also interchangeable and can also be worn alone. You really get two accessories for the price of one which is great. Mommy Resource Network: Do you offer custom ordering for sports teams or organizations? Kaitlyn’s Klips: Yes, I am currently working on ribbons for a Lupus walk. I can custom make orders for cheerleading teams and any sports teams with advance notice. Mommy Resource Network: Please leave the moms in our network advice about being a new entrepreneur. Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in our fall guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Vondeana Murray: My name is Vondeana I'm a mother of four have three sons and recently a year ago had my first daughter. I decided to make a headband to match with one of her outfits and that is how Jemini’s Sparkling Creations started. I love making hair accessories and outfits for children. Mommy Resource Network: How and when did you start Jemini’s Sparkling Creation? Vondeana Murray: I started my business in July 2011. I made a headband to match a outfit my daughter was wearing and I've gotten so many compliments and one women actually asked me to make a headband for her granddaughter and we exchanged numbers and from that point on I decided to make children's hair accessories. Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the quality/type/price point of the items you offer? Vondeana Murray: The prices on the headbands bows are reasonable. The price range depends on the detailing of the headband or bow. I take my time and make sure the headband or bow or anything else I sell is made securely. Prices range from $2-$12 for the headbands and bows. Mommy Resource Network: Are you available to do custom orders? Vondeana Murray: Yes, I always do custom orders if you can send a picture or give me details I can make a bow or headband to match any outfit. Whatever the customer wants the customer gets. Mommy Resource Network: I like that philosophy about customers. Please tell the moms in our network about one or two of your most requested pieces. Vondeana Murray: I just recently started making top hats. I attach them to an alligator clip or a headband and your little one will look so cute in it. I can decorate the hats with bows, flowers, feathers, rhinestone and make them look really over the top. Mommy Resource Network: Do you offer shipping throughout the U.S. and Canada? Vondeana Murray: Yes I offer shipping throughout the U.S, Canada, and anywhere else. International shipping just cost a little more. Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Vondeana Murray: My daughter Jemini inspired me to start this business and if it weren't for her, there wouldn't be a Jemini's Sparkling Creation. She is my baby girl and with a girl you can really dress her up and make her look like a little princess and that is why I'm giving all mothers the opportunity to buy handmade accessories for their little princesses that they can’t buy in the stores. Mommy Resource Network: Thank You for sharing with us.

Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have Anecdote little more about yourself.
featured in our guide. Please tell the moms in our network a
Anecdote: My name is LaScotia Pinkney and I am the mother of 2 children and the wife of a retired Navy Petty Officer. We have been together since high school and we have literally grown up together. Our oldest son is a junior in college and our daughter is 9 years old. My daughter was actually the inspiration to start Anecdote Books. Mommy Resource Network: How did you come up with the name Anecdote? Anecdote: Anecdote means a short narrative or interesting, amusing, or biographical incident. I thought this was the perfect word to describe my vision. Mommy Resource Network: Tell us more about your vision and how you started your business. Anecdote: When my daughter Gabrielle was a baby, I took her to her first photography session and the photographer was very rude, basically saying that he didn’t have time for crying babies. I took this as an opportunity to teach myself how to take pictures and everyone would comment on how beautiful they were and really liked my work. When my daughter was 4 or 5 years old, she asked me why the pictures in her storybooks didn’t look like her, basically asking could she be a princess. I thought what a great question and it inspired me to create a book because I believe that everyone has a story to tell. The first book that I published for Anecdotebooks.com was Mommy Am I a Princess? It was a photo book of pictures that I had taken over the years, all with captions and stories describing how unique she was and describing how she was a princess in her own right. Ever since then I have been creating them for birthdays and gifts. Mommy Resource Network: That is a great story LaScotia. What makes your books different from your competitors? Anecdote: They are not cookie cutter story books. All of our books come with a customized cover and truly display the individuality of our clients. None of our pictures are the same and each story is personalized. Our custom photo books are great for weddings, anniversaries, business presentations, and much more. The possibilities are endless with Anecdotebooks.com. Mommy Resource Network: Tell us more about how the interactive website was developed. Anecdote: Well, my daughter Gabrielle wanted to write her own stories to share with others and so each month we choose a theme to share with our network. Some of our topics have been about Life Journeys such as Flying on the Plane, all of which have an inspirational message. We wanted to create an environment where Mothers’ and Daughters’ can share their stories and inspire others. I truly believe that when you share your stories, you are leaving behind a legacy and that’s important. Mommy Resource Network: This is incredible LaScotia and I love how you have incorporated your daughter into the business. How has her response been? Anecdote: Thank you. Gabrielle is actually right here, so I will let you ask her. Mommy Resource Network: Hi Gabrielle, it’s so nice to meet you. How are you? Gabrielle: I’m good. It’s nice to meet you too. Mommy Resource Network: Are you excited about the business that you started with your mom? Gabrielle: Yes, I am very excited. I like that I am able to write my own stories that teach lessons and help others. Mommy Resource Network: Thank you Gabrielle. So, LaScotia please tell the moms how they can start the process of creating a custom story book. Mommy Resource Network: Sure, they can visit our website and upload 15 photos they want to include in their story book and then we will contact them to get a clear understanding of their vision. We will then create a draft and email it to the client for review. After the review process, the books are created and shipped to the client. Mommy Resource Network: Thanks LaScotia. It has been incredible to talk with you today and have you share with our network.

A container that holds open gallon size bags to reduce the mess and ease the stress in the kitchen.
Mix, Marinate, Transfer, Store, Pipe, Pour, and Knead with The Bag Holder. Stress.
The Bag Holder was designed in 2006 by Kara Anderson and her mother Carol Blodgett. Kara, a mom of 2 young children was a personal chef and her mom the “personal assistant” needed a way to make mass meals in minutes for the families she cared for without making a huge mess. Using a gadget in the kitchen that would stay open when adding ingredients, store leftovers and help assemble the meals was a necessity. Thus, The Bag Holder was created, designed and prototypes were made. It changed the way they did everything in the kitchen from start to finish and even her kids loved mixing the meals they made. It truly was like having another assistant in the kitchen. The thought of making memories without the mess with her children was a huge bonus. They began the patent process in 2006 but the price of creating, inventing and marketing a business was more than expected and they placed the idea in their “basket list” and continued working to care for families. In 2009, Kara was diagnosed with breast cancer and after surgery, chemo, radiation and continued treatment, she started a network of cleaning providers that offer free house cleaning to families who have children diagnosed with a serious illness or injury called Cleaning with a Meaning. It was founded by the company she runs today. With all the health concerns and unknown possibilities she realized there was no time like today to get The Bag Holder in every home. In 2010, Carol and Kara got back on track and with the help of social media and running a successful cleaning and errand service company they were ready to take on the challenge again. Carol and Kara want to bring back the joy of working together in the kitchen without wasting added time in the process. Every home can find a use for The Bag Holder and the way families can all pitch in is wonderful to watch. Like the old saying “Where ever I serve my guests they seem to like my kitchen best” but as Kara says it should have said “they like to clean my kitchen best” because using The Bag Holder makes mess free meals every time you use it. “I don’t just want to wade through life but I would rather make the waves that others wade in.” ~ Kara Anderson Kara and Carol work hard to help others and to remain close as a family.

Stargazinglily: My name is Kristin Roof and I have been married to my wonderful and supportive husband for nine years. I have two kids, a 7 year old daughter and a 3 year old son. I worked in Corporate America for many years, but due to downsizing I was let go right after I had my daughter. This was a great thing because I was now able to stay home with my children and start my own business. Mommy Resource Network: How did you start your business? Stargazinglily: My daughter was the inspiration behind the name of my business. My family has always been very artistic and creative and I have been creating and crafting with my mom for as long as I can remember. Mommy Resource Network: Do you think your Corporate background prepared you for being a successful business owner. Stargazinglily: Absolutely. I learned invaluable information on purchasing and business practices that have really helped me through this process. Mommy Resource Network: That is great!! Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in our fall guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Heather Lyons: My name is Heather Lyons. I just recently got married and have had my first baby. She is now 13 months old. I am going to school part time and majoring in elementary education. I am currently a nanny. I get paid to play with my daughter and another baby girl. It's the best! I love kids! Mommy Resource Network: How and when did you start Cute Tutus and Bows 4U? Heather Lyons: I got my business started in June 2011. I had recently bought a tutu from another website and paid $25 for it. (way overpriced) So, I decided to start making tutus myself and sell them for a reasonable amount. After I was successful at making and selling tutus, customers were requesting bows to go along with their outfits, so I tried making bows and they have been a success too! Mommy Resource Network: Tell the moms a little more about the quality/type/price point of the items you offer? Heather Lyons: I offer a wide variety of items. I make tutus, any size and any color, tutu dresses, hair bows, bottlecap hair bows, flower bows and have recently added pettiskirts to Cute tutus & bows 4 u. I'm hoping that they will be a hit as well! I assure the quality of my work and if you're not happy with it, you can send the item back and get a full refund. Mommy Resource Network: Are you available to do custom orders? Heather Lyons: Yes! I mainly work off of custom orders. I do have a lot of bows pre-made but love making custom orders. Mommy Resource Network: Please tell the moms in our network about one or two of your most requested pieces. Heather Lyons: My two most requested pieces are tutus and bottlecap hair bows. I have had a lot of tutu orders. A lot of people in my city request Baltimore Ravens tutus so they can dress their little girl up on game day. Bottlecap hair bows are another big hit. They're great because you can put any words/images on the bottlecaps so each bottlecap bow is unique! Mommy Resource Network: Do you offer shipping throughout the U.S. and Canada? Heather Lyons: Yes, I do ship throughout the US. I haven't had an order from Canada yet but I would definitely ship to anywhere in the world! Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Heather Lyons: “All our dreams can come true – if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney Mommy Resource Network: Thank You for sharing with us.
I meet with people everyday that ask this question: "I have an idea and I want to start a business, but where do I go from here?" Depending on their background, their proposed industry and what they have accomplished at the time the question is asked, my answer varies. However, one component of my answer never changes: I always advise people to do some pre-planning. "If you're going to take a risk," I say, "why not a calculated risk?" Here are four elements of planning that can help an aspiring entrepreneur move from point A to point B.
1. Personal Assessment Ask yourself: Do I have what it takes to be an entrepreneur? You must consider your willingness to endure these factors: The lack of emotional or financial support from family, friends and significant others. The road to entrepreneurship can be a lonely path. Be prepared to hear some negativity from the ones you love. Do you have the emotional stamina to handle this? The risk involved. Some people are risk-averse, and the thought of starting something that could fail is unbearable. If you are one of these people, business ownership is not for you. The long hours and holidays with little or no pay. Do you have any obligations that would hinder you from working the hours you need (e.g., a health problem, family obligations or school)? If so, you must analyze whether you can balance these competing interests. Working alone while having to be a self-starter and innovator. For some, this may be a daunting task. For an entrepreneur, it's essential.
You must also have working knowledge of the industry and its patterns. In the book What No One Ever Tells You About Starting Your Own Business, Craig Hartman of Preferred Industrial Services admits that his lack of technical knowledge and business management skills significantly impeded his company's growth.
2. Research A participant in one of my workshops said she had no competitors because her business idea was unique. This is a mistake most startup businesses make. There is always competition, and that's why research is important. Doing initial research about the audience you want to target means asking yourself several questions: Why do I want to start this business, and what pain would I be relieving? Compare your business to an aspirin. If your customer doesn't have a headache, why would she take your aspirin? There must be some pain. Also, ask yourself whether you're starting a business you love. If not, find something you are more passionate about. How does my target customer buy, and how do I conform my product or service to fit what this customer wants? If your product or service targets young people, you should study young people's habits. Don't be like the woman I met at a networking event who owned a consulting company geared to help high school seniors make the transition to college. She complained about not being able to grab their attention. When I asked for a sample of her materials, she handed me a traditional looking postcard with no website address included. Obviously she didn't know her market very well. Who are my direct competitors, and what are their selling patterns? Learning about your competitors during your planning stage gives you some idea of the scope of the market and how you can position yourself and your business. Based on the above answers, how do I develop my concept further? Inevitably your concept will need revisions at this stage. The key thing to remember is that a business is only as good as its concept and its ability to woo its customers.
I worked with someone who wanted to start a private transportation service for the elderly. She was unaware that her locality offered services that already had forced private companies out of that market. Imagine what would have happened if she just dived in without doing initial research. You can collect your data by surveying potential clients, researching at the library or hiring someone to conduct a feasibility study. Do whatever works for you, but don't skip the research stage.
3. Finances When a business associate I work with, decided to start his own business, his wife was still working in the banking industry. He's an attorney who hates to plan. With her financial planning and business banking background, on the other hand, she wanted to plan ahead. He shared with me, how she took a piece of paper and started jotting down all of their expenses vs. income. She asked how he proposed to supplement his income. He was quiet for a minute. Then he said, "Well, with the sales coming in . . ." She interrupted him: "Well, yeah, but you can't count on that, at least not for the first six months. So during this time, how do you suggest we pay the bills?" He suggested the credit cards they had started to accumulate just for this venture. She quickly jotted down some figures based on potential credit card scenarios: If this balance is charged on the card using this interest rate and these finance charges, this payment will have to be made. Then she asked him how he planned to pay the credit cards after they charged them, plus pay business and personal expenses. He had no answer just then, but it got him thinking. They finally came up with a budget strategy that involved saving some money and borrowing some money to ensure that they paid our bills on time. If you're thinking about starting a business, you need to seriously consider your personal and business finances before you make this leap: Start formulating a budget strategy based on an analysis of your current spending habits and income. Think about what you or your family would need to save for six months to one year to pay your bills.
Analyze your personal expenses vs. any business-overhead expenses. Start the mental preparation for not receiving a paycheck for a year or two.
4. Professional Expertise Start aligning yourself with professional expertise during the planning stages. You might need initial advice from an attorney, an accountant, an insurance broker, a business consultant, a marketing or sales expert and a business banker. Here are a couple of tips for reeling in these individuals throughout your planning process: Call and try to get 20- to 30-minute phone consultations. This gives the experts a chance to learn about your business and maybe give you some free tips. It could also be the first step to building a relationship for the future. Start attending seminars or workshops hosted by these individuals. This will help you gather valuable information that could prove useful in the long run. Skip the drive-through window at your bank. Go inside and start talking to your bank representatives--even if it's only about your personal accounts. Building these relationships may prove advantageous when the dialogue about your business plans comes into play. Once you've gone through these pre-planning stages, the next step would be to start the registration process and write your business plan. If that sounds too difficult, hire professionals to aid you in this task. Whatever you do, remember: If you are willing to take the risk, take a calculated risk.

Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have you featured in our guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Misty Kearns: I am a single woman with no children of my own & a former administrative assistant. Mommy Resource Network: How did you start your business? Misty Kearns: A little over 5 years ago I joined a network marketing company and while I loved the idea of making an extra income and the flexibility having your own business gives you, I just was not very successful with that particular company. However, one great thing that came through that experience is that I started a work at home resource website that provided networking and support for other women in home based businesses. In the meantime, I was still working full time, running the website, and I had joined Tupperware for the discount only because I loved the products. My life was moving right along when I unexpectedly lost my job. I was in a very bad place, but I decided that I wouldn’t go back to another corporate job because I wasn’t happy doing that, so I decided to step out on faith and put all my energy into building my Tupperware business. Mommy Resource Network: So how was the transition from working for someone else to owning your own business? Misty Kearns: I have to admit that I was terrified at first, but I figured I had nothing to lose at this point in my life. I was committed to giving it my all and putting in the work required to make my Tupperware business successful. I just refused to go back to an office job where I was just another name on the company directory. I am happy to say that within six months I replaced my full time income and since then I have earned free trips, a hard top convertible & many top achievements within the company. Mommy Resource Network: That is great!! Misty Kearns: I believe that God has truly blessed me & my mission now is to help others reach their goals & dreams too. Mommy Resource Network: What are some of things that have contributed to your success? Misty Kearns: Having a clear vision for what I want to achieve, believing in my dreams and that God has a purpose for my life, having a passion for what I do & sharing that passion with others, networking with & learning from other successful people in my industry, working my business like a business & not giving up when the going gets tough. I always tell women, don’t close your mind to things, you never know what God has in store for you. I am learning how to let my inner light shine & by doing so I am able to help others let their light shine too. Mommy Resource Network: In your opinion, why is Tupperware a great business opportunity for women? Misty Kearns: A great benefit of having your own Tupperware business is the amazing amount of confidence & self-worth you will gain from being part of such a great supportive, motivated & encouraging group of women. While the income, flexible schedule, ability to put your family first, the opportunity to earn cars, trips & prizes & the confidence are all amazing benefits of having your own Tupperware business, the absolute best rewards will be the friendships that you make, the people you meet & the relationships that you build. Mommy Resource Network: That is powerful Misty. You also have a new website that you run too, right? Misty Kearns: Yes, it’s CEO of Me. It’s all about changing your mindset to discover how to use your God-given talents, time & finances to the best of your ability to make the most of your life! Mommy Resource Network: What are some of the resources that are available on the website? Misty Kearns: We offer a theme each day that is focused around supporting women in business & even those who do not own their own business. We offer motivational, inspirational & spiritual encouragement, household tips, couponing & money saving ideas & each Friday we feature a different female small business owner & her company. We also have weekly prize drawings and many other resources. I would encourage all of the moms in your network to visit us at www.ceoofmeinc.com and join our mailing list to stay informed of the great resources, encouragement & support we offer. Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have Diva Glass Slippers featured in our guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Diva Glass Slippers: I have been a seamstress for many years. I have been sewing for my neighbors, friends, and family since I was 10 years old. I learned very early on that I was a good seamstress and I knew that I could make a living doing something that I loved. Mommy Resource Network: How did you start Diva Glass Slippers? Diva Glass Slippers: I was getting ready for my birthday party in 2006 and I was serving pomegranate martinis to my guests. I was setting up my glasses and I thought they could use a little something and since I sew, there was a ton of fabric around and I decided to sew up some wearable coasters to jazz them up. Everyone who attended the party gave me praises on the glass coasters all night. Everyone would always ask me about them, so I started to give them away as gifts for special occasions and Christmas gifts. I took a business class through a local organization that was intended for my apparel line, but I started to doodle and discuss the wearable glass coasters and created a business plan around marketing them as Diva Glass Slippers. Mommy Resource Network: That is so creative!! Please describe Diva Glass Slippers for our moms. Diva Glass Slippers: Diva Glass Slippers are wearable, slip-on coasters and identifiers, all-in-one, for stemware (think: wine glasses, martini, margarita, flutes and goblets) - because Divas Drink from Stemware! Mommy Resource Network: That is great!! So can all of the Diva Glass Slippers be customized? Diva Glass Slippers: Absolutely. 90% of the slippers that I have made have come from specific requests from clients. Our wedding collection is a good example of how we customize our products to compliment your events. Diva Glass Slippers are available in a wide array of fabrics and charms to match themes and serve as unique gifts, decoration and favors for a variety of occasions. Mommy Resource Network: Tell us more about some occasions that people can use Diva Glass Slippers. Diva Glass Slippers: People can use them for any occasion including private parties, anniversaries, birthdays, bridal showers, weddings, and so much more. Mommy Resource Network: Please leave the moms in our network some advice about being a successful entrepreneur. Diva Glass Slippers: Be very clear about what it is that you are trying to do. Enjoy the interview we had with Melissa Bufford, Founder, www.motivatedmompreneur.com and Visalus Representative. Mommy Resource Guide: Hi Melissa, its great to talk with you today. Melissa: Thanks, I’m excited about this opportunity. Mommy Resource Guide: Tell our moms a little more about who you are. Melissa: Okay, sounds good. I am a mom of two, a 2 ½ year old boy and a 4 year old girl. I started off getting a degree in journalism. I applied my degree in the advertising industry and I absolutely loved my career and never thought in a million years that I would be a stay at home mom. But interestingly enough, when I had my daughter, I noticed things changing for me and I soon realized that I wasn’t going to be committed to having a 60 plus hour work week. Mommy Resource Guide: I can completely relate to not wanting to work outside the home once I started to have children. Melissa: Absolutely. The very first time I kissed my daughter on the cheek, I fell instantly in love with her and I knew that I had to be home to take care of her. I surprised everyone with that decision, my family, my coworkers, and my husband. I used to call myself the unlikely stay at home mom, but the old saying is true, having a baby changes everything.
Mommy Resource Guide: So what made you decide to start a home business? Melissa: Well when my daughter was 6 months old, I found out I was pregnant with my son. I had my daughter on a pretty good routine and I became bored and felt like there was something more I could be doing. I created the Mompreneurs facebook fanpage as a place to empower other moms in business, share in resourceful discussions, and industry insights. Mommy Resource Guide: I personally think that the Mompreneurs page is a great place for women in business to join to stay encouraged on their journey to success. So tell us more about your partnership with Visalus. Melissa: Visalus promotes a 90 day health challenge for people who are looking to achieve better health and/or a weight loss or weight gain goal. The premise of the products is a meal replacement shake which actually tastes like cake batter. Mommy Resource Guide: Wow, it tastes like cake batter? Melissa: Yes, its very yummy and it leaves me full and satisfied. They are amazing products and it is an amazing business opportunity. The compensation plan is incredible and it is perfect for stay at home moms. The team that I am on is very supportive and extremely professional. Mommy Resource Guide: Why would you recommend Visalus as a business opportunity for a busy mom? Melissa: First, I think that a lot of women have a desire to lose that extra 5 or 10 pounds and by taking the challenge, they become a walking testimony and billboard for their business. Its extremely easy for a mom to get on the program and have great results. Secondly, this is a business that you can truly operate online when you have a spare minute during the day or when you put the kids down in the evening. The company offers great online tools to help you and they are always available. Mommy Resource Guide: What is the best way for people to reach you to find out more about the 90 day challenge or discuss the business opportunity? Melissa: They can visit my website at www.hotin90.com or they can look me up on facebook under Melissa Hughes Bufford. They can also visit my facebook fanpage at www.facebook.com/ themompreneurs Mommy Resource Guide: Awesome. In closing, I would like you to give the moms in our network a challenge to complete over the summer to live a better life. Melissa: I am going to borrow a logo from a famous company and say, Just Do It! Honestly, just make a decision to be who you want to be. No more excuses, just take small baby steps regardless if your goal is to lose weight or to start an online business. The wipes section of the dispenser holds a large pre-packaged wipe bag.
ABOUT THE INVENTOR The Bobee Diaper and Wipe Dispenser was invented by Stacy Harfert, a mother of two. Stacy wanted something to hold diapers and wipes where they were convenient, but also out of the way. As a new mom, she had her hands full and had limited space. Every surface, it seemed, was taken up by something. That’s when it struck her‌ what she needed was a wall-mounted dispenser. Stacy created one out of common materials. It worked so well that she and her husband decided to design a dispenser for other parents. After nearly two years of industrial design, testing and eventual production, the Bobee Diaper and Wipe dispenser was born.
PRODUCT INCLUSIONS The Bobee Diaper and Wipe Dispenser includes dispenser, wall mounting plate, mounting hardware, two sheets of decals and installation instructions. Additional decal sheets are available for separate purchase.
AVAILABILITY June of 2011.
PURCHASE AND PRICE The Bobee Diaper and Wipe Dispenser retails for $39.99 at www.bobeeinc.com.

Please tell the moms in our network a little about yourself. In my former life, I worked as administrative assistant and office manager for organizations both large and small; overseas and in the U.S., for a commercial photographer, professors, think-tank researchers, CEOs and an Army Colonel. Now my partner and I live on a ranch in Oklahoma – we ditched city life for a garden, orchard, cattle, acres of grass and lots of wind. My home-based business, Empty on the Inside, takes up a good amount of time – to which many of the moms in your network can relate, I’m sure – and like other working women out there, I squeeze in cooking, cleaning, gardening, running, yoga, writing a daily blog, walking the dog…with time left over occasionally for a book, movie or crossword puzzle. How/when did you start Empty on the Inside? Empty on the Inside opened its virtual doors at the end of March 2011, but the idea was born about two years prior. I took a lot of time to build up a product line and to hone how I was going to produce quality cards in (I hoped) large quantities. I also looked around at my potential competition to see what they were offering in the way of handmade greeting cards. What was your inspiration behind starting your company? Painting and drawing have been a part of my life since I was a kid and I went on to earn a BFA in painting and printmaking. It’s what I loved, but not a great segue onto a career path – so I took advantage of my organizational and computer skills to pay the bills. But art was always there and once my partner and I moved to Oklahoma, I was able to devote more time to creating. I’ve been making cards for my own use for years and one day it occurred to me to sell my cards. Tell us a little more about your product line and the type of cards/artwork you offer. I’ve tried to create a card for every possible occasion and many of my designs are suitable for any number of life’s events – and as the name implies – I leave the cards blank on the inside for whatever message the sender cares to write (although I can include simple greetings like: thank you, happy birthday, get well, etc., upon request). And I’m constantly expanding my product line to give customers lots of choices – and that also keeps me interested and motivated. All of my cards are hand-painted and the technique I use gives my cards, I think, a unique style. They’re very much like illustrations or very small, frame-worthy pieces of art. Are your cards customizable? Can the moms in our network request specific designs? I am always happy to work with customers to create the card they have in mind for their event or occasion. Some of my best cards were born of suggestions, by the way – from people who identified a need in my product line. In addition to being open to working with a customer to design something that is uniquely theirs, any one of the cards currently in my product line can be customized to suit one’s taste in color or personalized in some other way. If a client has a pink-themed birthday party in mind or if they would like invitations that read, “Come to The Johnson’s House Warming Party,” I can do that. And my custom work is not confined to cards. I’ve created several custom paintings – one even based on a greeting card – and I recently completed an illustration for the cover of a novel. Not too long ago I made custom stencils for a client so that she could use them to decorate her mailbox with the image of her poodle. Please talk in detail about one of your most popular pieces. What was the inspiration behind the art? People seem to respond most to the flower- and animal-themed cards I have created. My most popular card is one called “Purple Coneflowers,” and the image comes straight from my flower bed. It’s such a simple flower – really an iconic shape – which makes it ideal to use as a card image. The day I took the photo (to use as reference) was a perfectly clear, hot, summer day. The flowers were at their peak of color and the green leaves and stems with the deep blue sky as a backdrop – I didn’t have to tweak a thing to make the card work. Do you also offer hand painted invitations for special occasions? I’ve created invitations for weddings and anniversaries; in one case the client dictated the design – they had a very clear idea of what they were looking for; and in another case, I came up with the design and color scheme for the client, having them choose from several design sketches. There are so many possibilities – a child’s birthday party, a graduation celebration, a big New Year’s Eve bash – I hope to tackle them all one day! Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Creatively speaking, when the mojo is going, I can find inspiration just about anywhere. But from the standpoint of making a go of a home-based business, my family and especially my dad, has been a huge source of inspiration, not to mention a source of great practical knowledge. I’m a late bloomer as far as entrepreneurship goes, but my dad, a business-owner since 1970 (and one who has “retired” several times only to start up something new) always encouraged his kids to be their own boss. All three of my siblings are small business owners. As the baby of the family, I’m usually the last to come around, but I’m on board now!

Please tell the moms in our network a little about yourself? We are a sister sisters and moms. We each were bitten by the creative bug at birth and have always been doing something artsy, crafty or creative. I (Carrie) am the older sister. I am married to the love of my life John and we have the two sweetest kids; a 2 year old boy and a 1 year old little girl. We live in Tulsa, OK and we love it! Tiffany, my younger sister is also married to her High School Sweetheart and they have a 1 year old prince. They live in a quiet little town in Northern Texas, Paris. We love creating new things and pleasing our customers and fans with new and exciting products! How/When did you start The Poke A Dot Shop? The Poke A Dot Shop came out of Creations2Glory. For this answer we need to go a little further back. Creations2Glory started with Tiffany. She got into creating baby/children’s items when she became pregnant with her son. Back then it was something small, orders here and there to supply a local boutique with handmade designs for their shop. Almost a year later I picked up a sewing machine and jumped on board! We played around with products and ideas for the better part of 2010, pick poking around, looking for the right products. In that search for perfection we knew we wanted to extend our business into offering patterns and tutorials but that sort of venture takes quite a deal of time and funding. Thus The Poke A Dot Shop was born. We found a product that people wanted, headbands and more specifically we wanted to break into photography props. The last 7 months have been a whirlwind of a ride! We now offer a slew of popular products and all at unbeatable prices! We are transitioning into a wholesaler to the public. Who wants to pay high prices for items that don’t need to be uncharged so greatly? We plan to supply quality goods at amazing prices, affordable and practical while dressing your child as well as can be! What was your inspiration behind starting your company? Our inspiration has always been our children. If we want it for our kids we’ll figure out how to make it or get inspired to make something else for our kids. Tell us more about your product line and the handmade creations you offer. We offer a slew of lace and chiffon products for little ladies. These items are stunning yet subtle. Even the most “Tomboy” of moms compliments us on how amazing these products are. We have the occasional comment game sale on Facebook that offer our OOAK (one of a kind) designs and products to our Fans. I read that you also have e-patterns and e-tutorials available for other designers can you tell us a little more about that? Our ePatterns and eTutorials are still in the processing stage. They are not yet available for purchase but we hope to have these available sometime in the next 3-4 months. All of our patterns and tutorials are our original designs. Most of them are very easy to follow and can be considered to be at the beginner and intermediate levels, with some advanced. Follow us on Facebook to stay up to date on all of the happenings and updates on The Poke A Dot Shop. Do you offer custom orders? We do accept custom orders, however there is only a limited amount of custom orders we can take each month and they typically fill up quickly. Tell us more about your patriotic line. We created this line with babies in mind. Soft flattering color schemes were what we were going for in this patriotic look; after all it is the innocence we want to accentuate in your little lady. Our Patriotic Line is our shabby chic approach to show off our Red, White and Blue! Do you offer worldwide shipping? We do offer worldwide shipping. We always try our best to get you the best quotes and shipping prices we can get our hands on. Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Colossians 3:18 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. What is a Facebook Comment Game Sale? These are exhilarating and a rush of fun! First you have to become a Fan on our page by selecting the “Like” button. On the given date and time previously advertised on our page the sale will commence on the Wall. Photos will be uploaded one at a time of products up for sale. Pertinent information and pricing will be included in the description of the photo. If you want the item, leave your Paypal email address in the comment box. If you were the first to comment you get the item! Soon after the sale you will be invoiced and at that time you will submit payment.
A recent study shows a not-so-surprising trend: Single moms, who often work long hours while negotiating the arduous tasks of keeping house and raising kids, may put on the pounds. This study, like others, suggests that eating healthy and being physically active is a balance between individual effort and environmental influences. The underlying question is what barriers keep people from prioritizing eating healthy and exercising in an environment that may or may not be conducive to healthy behaviors? I think we have to address the obesity problem at the policy level as well as the individual level in order to have an effect. Living in urban areas that are riddled with fast-food joints and a lack of places to work out doesn’t help single parents get or stay healthy. While 32% of all Americans are obese, single moms tip the scales, with 41% of those studied being obese. In households afflicted by serious problems such as unemployment, 48% of moms were obese. There is no specific scientific evidence or proof indicating all the factors that paint this family portrait but many mothers often put their own needs well below the needs of their children. If this scenario describes you, here are some action tips to take: • Trade childcare and trips to the gym with other single parents. • If you’re employed, find out whether your employer offers wellness programs. • Your kids can help take care of you. Set aside a few minutes to run around outside with them and get in some activity with vigorous play. As they become older, assign them chores to help manage the household.

Mommy Resource Network: Please tell the moms in our network a little about yourself and your background. Ary Mendoza: My name is Ary Mendoza, 33 years old, married for 7 years to the love of my life and I have 2 beautiful little boys. I graduated from Manchester College with a Bachelors in Business/Marketing, and I have a great passion for pampering others. Mommy Resource Network: How/when did you start Carolyn's Cove? Ary Mendoza: I’ve always wanted to open a day spa, but I decided to stay at home with my 2 little boys, and enjoy the experiences of being a Mom!! I’m so glad I did! I started Carolyn's Cove in September of 2010. I began selling my handmade sugar scrub at different craft bazaars, women's expos, and area festivals, and holiday shows around my area (Indiana/Illinois), and I LOVE it! I now have my own website, regular customers, and I’m currently looking for retail space to offer Carolyn's Cove (salons, gift shops, day spas etc). Mommy Resource Network: What was your inspiration behind starting your company? Ary Mendoza: My mom, Carolyn passed away in 2001 of Cancer, and during our last Christmas together, I took her to a day spa in Chicago, and she LOVED it! My mom always loved to pamper herself...manicures, pedicures, and going to the hair salon. She also gave me my first pampering book, that I have read at least a dozen times. Thus...Carolyn 's Cove was born. Again...my boys are an inspiration as well...because it gives me a chance to watch them grow, and I don’t have to be "outside" the home on a daily basis. It allows me to stay at home with my boys, be a wife, and still run my own company. Mommy Resource Network: Tell us a little more about your product line? Ary Mendoza: I currently have 5 scented Sugar Scrubs, and 1 unscented. All jars are 8 oz and come with a mini spatula for easy use. (Lemon Dew, Citrus Sun, Peppermint Mist, Winter Mint, Midnight Rain, and Clear Breeze). Each of the Sugar Scrubs work as AWESOME exfoliates for the skin to be used from the neck down. They leave your skin feeling brand new, and SUPER soft. You can use them on just your hands, or feet, or your entire body. All of the ingredients are natural. I’m currently working on a Body Butter....to come out this fall/holiday season. Mommy Resource Network: Do you offer gift baskets or sets for holidays or special occasions? Ary Mendoza: I offer a Sample Kit that has 4 small jars (1oz each) of your choice. The Sample Kits are a huge hit! I normally sale out of them very quickly at each show I have. For the holidays I will offer the "Holiday Set": a set of 2 Sugar Scrubs...your choice (one for the Pamperer, and one for the Pamperee)...it also comes wrapped! I do offer custom gift baskets upon request (it would include your choice of Sugar Scrub(s), basket, wrapped, business card, a pampering tool(s) and 25 ways to pamper yourself) . I also offer Gift Certificates in denominations of $10. Mommy Resource Network: Do you offer worldwide shipping? Ary Mendoza: Currently, I only offer shipping in the US. Hopefully, but next summer, I will be able to offer worldwide shipping. Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Ary Mendoza: I believe that EVERYONE should be pampered, no matter how busy "life" may be. Take a little "me time", and spoil the 1 body that you were given. You will be very happy that you did. Happy Pampering! Mommy Resource Network: Thank You.

Please tell the moms in our network a little about yourself. Hi there! My name is Shannon and I am a happy mommy to two beautiful little girls and the proud wife to my USAF TSgt husband. Please share with us how you started Shannon's Quilts & Such and more about your product line. I started quilting 3 years ago when we moved to Alaska in order to keep my sanity through the long, dark winters when my husband was deployed. It all started with small baby quilts and burp cloths as gifts for friends. With much encouragement from family and friends I began selling my items on a small scale and opened Shannon's Quilts & Such on Facebook last summer. I expanded to include bloomers, boutique burpies, aprons, tag blankies and quilts of all sizes. As I received more requests, I purchased an embroidery machine and added shirts to my inventory! I design a lot of my creations myself and hand make everything I offer. I love making one of a kind items specially requested by my customers and have many repeat customers that have become great friends! Everything I create is custom and I rarely am able to carry ready-to-ship items. I am able to offer bloomers with or without ruffles and an also add embroidery/applique to make them even more unique for any special occasion. I can make them with general sizing guidelines or custom fit with thigh and waist measurements! Quilting is where my passion lies and they are my most requested items. I have made doll size quilts all the way up to queen size and try to include my clients in every aspect of the design process. Currently I am working on a memory quilt that includes photos and signature squares and also a wedding quilt made out of a friend's wedding and bridesmaids dresses. These have been an absolute joy and great learning experiences to experiment with different fabrics and techniques. Right now I am able to offer shipping to the US, APO/FPO addresses and Canada. Worldwide shipping is based on exact shipping costs, please contact me for quotes.

Please tell the moms in our network a little about yourself. I am a 50 year old wife, mother and grandmother. My husband and I both proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. I am very blessed to have the opportunity to do what I love to do and that is to help others and to create special gifts. I love giving back to my community. How/when did you start Vinyl Chatter? I can't really pin point an actual "start". I began just doing things for myself and my friends and family. Then their friends and family wanted something special made and thus, Vinyl Chatter was born. What was your inspiration behind starting your company? Personalized and Customized gifts. The Bible inspires me. I love putting God's word on the wall as a daily inspiration something to read every day and remind me of how blessed I am in so many areas of my life. Tell us a little more about your product line and the type of wall art/creative lettering do you offer. I can do all kinds of lettering - indoor home decor to putting your business logo on your vehicle. I also do auto decals, monograms (hugely popular right now), custom lettering such as family names. Vinyl lettering looks great on just about any smooth surface - windows, wall, doors, mirrors, signs, glass, wood, etc. The possibilities really are endless. Are the designs customizable? Can the moms in our network request specific designs? I LOVE custom design work!! I love taking your favorite saying or your favorite Bible verse and creating a unique, one of a kind piece for your home. Please talk in detail about one of your most popular pieces. Well, I'd have to say that right now, my biggest sellers are the vehicle monograms - you know, the little 3 letter monograms that are seen on just about every car in town. What a great way to add a little personalization to your vehicle. And, they aren't just popular with teenagers - everyone loves them. And, they make great gifts!! In fact, they are so popular that every Monday on my Vinyl Chatter Facebook page - we give one away. It's Monogram Monday and there is a winner every week!! Please share some of the many ways our moms can use wall art both personally and professionally. Personally, to decorate and enhance the windows, walls and doors of their home. Even their mailbox. To personalize that child's room - to welcome friends and family with warm and sentimental wall words, to enhance a bathroom or to accent a picture grouping. To allow them to be able to give gifts that are unique and are tailored to the recipient rather than just an item off of the store shelf. Professionally - to advertise their business with an auto decal. Teachers love vinyl wall art - to enhance class rooms, provide labeling for learning. Again, the possibilities are endless and we are only limited by our imaginations. Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. I love this quote by Audrey Hepburn - "I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles." This quote is in my bathroom and I read it every single day. It speaks to me and here is why: I believe in pink - this will be my 4th year to participate in the Susan G Komen 3day, 60 mile walk. This is an experience like no other. Laughing - I love laughing, but more than that - I love to hear the laughter of my grandchildren. Kissing, kissing a lot - yep, I am a hopeless romantic. My husband and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary and I can't wait to see what the next 30 have in store. Being strong - well, I survived Marine Corps boot camp and raising teenagers!! Happy girls are the prettiest girls - nothing is more beautiful than a smile on your face!! Tomorrow is another day and miracles - tomorrow is another day and sometimes we need that second chance. Miracles are present in my life everyday. I am very blessed and I feel like I am right where God wants me to be.

Mommy Resource Network: We are so excited to have Swiddles Inc. featured in our guide. Please tell the moms in our network a little more about yourself. Swiddles Inc.: My name is Ellen and I have been working with beads for a very long time! I am a Fine Arts Major, a Metalsmith, and also a Graduate Gemologist. I worked for pawn shops in the city of Chicago doing appraisals for fine jewelry for many years. Mommy Resource Network: How did you start your business? Swiddles Inc.: After becoming a mom and moving to the suburbs, I was looking for something to keep me busy and was introduced to direct sales. I worked for a company called the Glass Bracelet and was very successful becoming a director in the company and winning many awards. Unfortunately, that company closed and I was left with an overstock of loose beads from my inventory. As luck would have it, I was at a party with a friend and they had a serving piece that had beads on it and the beads were falling off. I thought to myself, I can make this and I can make them so the beads don’t fall off. That was the start of my business Swiddles in 2007 with the idea of finding a better way to decorate serving pieces “so the beads won’t fall off.” Each piece is hand woven very skillfully using a tarnish resistant wire making all my pieces fully functional! I use the most unique and beautiful beads to adorn all my pieces. No two Swiddles are alike! I am continuously testing new products and designs to offer fresh and exciting serving pieces and other entertaining accessories for Swiddles. Mommy Resource Network: That is great!! Tell the moms about the products that you offer. Swiddles Inc.: Well we started with the pie server, but we also offer custom serving pieces and other entertaining accessories. My wine stoppers are my most popular item, they are beaded with Swarovski crystals and they come in a gift box that makes them a great statement piece. We also have cheese spreaders, appetizer sets, tongs, bridal sets, cake servers, salads sets and much more. All of our pieces are unique, custom and have my signature “swirl” on them, Mommy Resource Network: I really like how your entire product line is custom. Please leave the moms in our network a little advice about starting a new business. Swiddles Inc.: I have a very encouraging family and my husband told me that he knew I would succeed and that meant the world to me and my business. If you have a passion then you just need to GO FOR IT, so that you won’t regret what could have been. This journey has been amazing. Mommy Resource Network: Tell us how the moms in our network can purchase from you. Swiddles Inc.: They can definitely connect with us through facebook, they can visit our website at www.swiddles.com, or they can visit my online store at Www.etsy.com/shop/swidmom Mommy Resource Network: Thank You.

Please tell the moms in our network a little about yourself. Before becoming a mom, I was a high school science teacher. Once my son was born, my husband and I decided that I would stay home. I’ve always loved being creative and staying home allowed me some more time to explore my creativity. How/when did you start Designs by Janessa? What was your inspiration to be an entrepreneur? Designs by Janessa officially launched in June 2009 but the idea started in the Fall of 2008. I had always wanted to work with metal clay so I took a class at the local college. I made silver nametags and asked other mom’s if they wanted them. They did, so I made more and sold them. Then I signed up for a few craft fairs and started selling more. A mother approached me about capturing her son’s fingerprint in the metal clay. She came to my house and we tried it; it worked! I signed up for more craft fairs selling fingerprint charms. As the fingerprint jewelry took off, I perfected my method for capturing prints. I am now able to send impression kits all over the world! Tell us a little more about your product line and the type of jewelry you offer. I sell custom-made fingerprint jewelry using a loved one’s print. I offer necklaces, bracelets, keychains, cufflinks, tie tacks, tie clips, and earrings. I can also take a love note or a drawing and turn it into a keychain. Are moms across the United States able to order the custom fingerprint charms? What is the process? Yes. Once an order is placed, a molding compound is mailed with a prepaid return envelope. Detailed instructions are included. Please talk in detail about one of your most requested pieces. One of my most popular pieces is the fingerprint heart with birthstone. I personally love this piece the best. It has a birthstone, person’s name and fingerprint all in one. It is a very elegant looking piece. Since the pieces are custom, how long does it take to receive? Once the impressions are received, it will take about 3-4 weeks to receive the final piece because I work alone. Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Every artist was first an amateur - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mommy Resource Network: Please tell the moms in our network a little about yourself. Dannella Burnett: I told my parents at age 9 that I wanted to be a chef, after a few years they realized I was serious and have supported that passion since then. I began catering with a friend of the family at 15, went to Johnson and Wales and have degrees in Culinary Arts and Food Service Management. I managed restaurants in the Washington DC area for 13 years before moving to GA to be closer to family. I started my own catering, wedding consulting and event planning business - Oakwood Occasions 2 years ago. I have 2 kids and love my life! Mommy Resource Network: How/when did you start OO Fudge Factory? Dannella Burnett: We made the fudge as a way of saying Thank You to some of our catering/event clients and many of them wanted to buy it. We launched OO Fudge Factory last year. Because the Fudge can be shipped nationally and our other business is strictly local and hands on, I felt it should have its own name and website. Mommy Resource Network: What was your inspiration behind starting your company? Dannella Burnett: To take 25+ years of event planning, management, cooking and serving and be able to give a complete package to bridal couple, social caterings and corporate hospitality. I felt that it was important to be able to run my own business with my personal philosophy - Find the Win-Win-Win Solutions! Mommy Resource Network: Tell us a little more about the type of fudge that you offer? Dannella Burnett: So far we have made 48 different varieties of fudge including White, Dark and Milk Chocolates with combinations of nuts, toffees and candies, Peanut Butter, Butterscotch, Dreamsicle, Pina Colada, German Chocolate Cake, Caramel, Cinnamon, Confetti and Mint. We usually make 6-8 varieties at a time and offer 1 # packages of the assorted flavors. Each piece is individually wrapped for freshness and there are 13-17 pieces per pound. Mommy Resource Network: Do you offer gift baskets or sets for holidays or special occasions? Dannella Burnett: Yes, we are happy to work with you to create a holiday or special occasion gift basket or customize the packaging for client or employee appreciation gifts and for your promotions. Mommy Resource Network: Do you offer worldwide shipping? Dannella Burnett: Not at this time. Mommy Resource Network: Please tell the moms in our network a little more about your full service catering service? Dannella Burnett: We offer BBQ to Black Tie service and custom menu proposals. We work with our clients to create the experience they want for their guests. We provide catering, rentals, wedding and grooms cakes, floral and decor as well as linens. We also have partnerships with other event services so we can be your one stop shop for hospitality and event planning. Mommy Resource Network: Please share some inspiration or a quote or two that has encouraged you in business. Dannella Burnett: "Customers may not always be right, but they must be treated right." "Hard work and honest actions are rewarded with a good night's sleep and a light heart" Mommy Resource Network: Thank You for sharing with us.
