MARCH MEETING 2016 BUDVA MONTENEGRO

Summary Dear IFMSA members, With this booklet we want to show you our commitment and will to host the IFMSA General Assemby and you in our beautiful country. We will describe all the issues presented and show you what the MM2016 should look like. We are open to any and all suggestions and questions so please do not hesitate to talk to us.

MoMSIC Montenegro Until 2007. year MoMSIC was part of YuMSIC(Yugoslovenian Medical Student Association). Since then we are growing as an NMO As proof of this, MoMSIC Montenegro was officially called upon by the government to organize the events and promotion of Pink October, we published the first student’s text book for medical students and we are the main partner with the Montenegrin Institute for Public Health for the Prevention of AIDS program and so on.

Motivation letter Dear, With this I would hereby like to express the motivation shown by all members of MOMSIC Montenegro, including myself, for the IFMSA General Assembly March Meeting 2016 in Budva. It was difficult for all of us four years ago when we were elected as MoMSIC Montenegro national officers and EB members. Unfortunately, we had no local support, but we still persevered by working slowly, diligently, and patiently. We are now official recognized as a NGO by our Medical faculty, by our University and by our Government.

MARCH MEETING 2016 BUDVA MONTENEGRO Now we are recognized as a responsibile NGO in our country and we made it because we worked smart and we worked hard, that's the key to every sucess.

Foreigners usually describe Montenegro as a ''Small country but with people with big hearts”. We are taking responsibility for that quote and we know that we can do it.

MoMSIC Montenegro members want to be recognized as a professional and important part of the IFMSA family. IFMSA is the biggest student’s organization in the world and a family like that deserves the best...

See the unseen, learn the unlearned, and welcome to Montenegro.

We are ready to make the greatest general assembly ever, we are ready to show everybody that quality trumps quantity and we are ready and willing to take the next step, and that is to host IFMSA GA MM16

president

Sincerely yours, Suad Sabanovic MoMSIC Montenegro

MARCH MEETING 2016 BUDVA MONTENEGRO

About Budva Budva is a Montenegrin town on the Adriatic Sea. It has around 14,000 inhabitants, and it is the centre of Budva Municipality. The coastal area around Budva, called the Budva riviera, is the center of Montenegrin tourism, known for its well preserved medieval walled city, sandy beaches and diverse nightlife. Budva is 2,500 years old, which makes it one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast.

History There is vast archaeological evidence that places Budva among the oldest urban settlements of the Adriatic coast. Substantial documentary evidence provides historical references dating back to the 5th century BC. Legend recounts that Bouthoe (Βουθόη - Vouthoe) was founded by Cadmus the founder of Thebes, Greece, when exiled out of Thebes, finding a shelter in this place for him and his wife, Harmonia.

Tourists usually speaks about Budva as a ‘Montenegrin Monte Carlo’’

The entire town is encircled with defensive stone walls. The fortifications of Budva are typical of the Medieval walled cities of the A d r i a t i c , c o m p l e t e with towers, embrasures, fortified city gates and a citadel. A large public square is located to the north of the citadel, containing all of the churches of the old town - St. Ivan church (17th century), Santa Maria in Punta (840 AD), and The Holy Trinity church (1804).

Welcome to Montenegro The picturesque country of Montenegro is a country situated in the southeastern part of Europe. Montenegro has for its neighbors the countries of Serbia to the northeast, Kosovo to the east, Albania to the southeast, Croatia to the west and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest. The country of Montenegro, apart for its scenic mountains, is also known for its out-of-the-world beaches that owe their existence to the proximity that the country enjoys with the Adriatic Sea.

MARCH MEETING 2016 BUDVA MONTENEGRO Bordered by the clear sea, covered with white rocks, sunlit by the Mediterranean sun, Montenegro is one of the last European oases to which one can flow from the dynamic tempo of civilization and rest by the soft sound of the waves, the song of crickets and the intoxicating scents of miscellaneous vegetation. When you reach Montenegro, through whichever ”door” you enter, you will encounter intact nature and be welcomed by hospitable, proud and friendly people. The Capital is Podgorica and Budva is the most visisted city in Montenegro.

As unique scenery, in Montenegro you have to visit the 1300 meter deep canyon of the River Tara, the deepest one in Europe, second in the world after the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River in America. If you wish to stop and rest – to fill your lungs with clean air, and your eyes with the beautiful lands cape, many belvederes or meadows located on plateaux, places of peace and serenity, are waiting for you… In Montenegro, you will be greeted by people, who have learned, through tradition, to respect a well-intentioned guest. You shall be welcomed by people loyal to the country they live in, loyal to the moral, customs and history.
