Reykjavik, Iceland Nicholas Monaco Period 9
This article is on Reykjavik, Iceland. Iceland is located on a fault line. It’s location on the fault line makes it vulnerable to earthquakes. Iceland is known for lava fields, hot springs, and geysers. Iceland also has active volcanoes on it. Iceland is a volcanic island primarily because of it’s location on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which separates the North American and Eurasian plates. This causes the island to be geologically active as the plates are constantly moving away from each other. Iceland lies on a hotspot called “The Iceland Plume” which formed on the island millions of years ago. This would also threaten Reykjavik and it’s in habitants. Reykjavik economics include banking, trade, and international business. International business is one of the main economic centers of the city. It made Reykjavik listed as the richest city in the world in 2007. Reykjavik is
a pleasant and increasingly popular city. It is continuing to develop, in electronics and entertainment, which affects the local life, mostly in a positive way. Reykjavik is a particularly “green” city and extremely conscious of its contributions to the environment. The city has secluded bays, great hotels, whale watching, and other activities. To prepare for a disaster is probably going to be the same in Reykjavik as it is for the rest of the world. At work, you should know where the escape routes are and keep supplies in your desk. You should also have medical supplies close to you. If you’re in a car, keep medical supplies in the trunk. If you’re at home, you should open an escape route so you can get out, if needed. Then, get under a table for protection from falling objects. Turn off the stove if you’re cooking. You should keep supplies and a first aid kit at home.
