The Facts About Honshu’s Earthquake Problem Honshu, Japan is one of many plate tectonically active locations on the globe. What is happening here is what we call, a transform boundary between the Eurasian plate and the Pacific plate. This causes the many earthquakes in Honshu. In the past, Japan has taken some hard hits, such as the 9.0 quake that happened in March 2011, or the 8.9 quake that happened on March 10th 2011. However, they have also had some less hard hits, for example, the 5.2 quake or the 6.7 quake. Now, economics of Honshu, Japan are mainly based on agriculture or fishing. But, lately, Japan ran into a little problem with an earthquake that caused about 100 million dollars in damage. The average lifestyle in Honshu is usually similar to ours. We get up, get dressed, and do what we are supposed to do. But, sometimes, the population of Honshu, Japan has to perform a disaster preparedness procedure for an earthquake. Japan has prepared for earthquakes by doing the following four things: 1. They enforced new strict building codes. 2. They have their population practice earthquake drills. 3. They developed warning systems to notify the population of an emergency. 4. They constructed special defenses. These are some of the facts regarding one of the most tectonically active areas in the world.
