CDES Newsletter December 2022
Director’s message
Dear colleagues, What an incredible year it’s been. We’ve come a long way as COVID-19 restrictions have relaxed. Since April 2020, we’ve run a very successful webinar series, which we’ll continue in 2023 alongside more in-person events
I'm delighted to announce that we’ve become part of a new Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence on Elimination of Violence Against Women. We’ve also successfully attracted grants to research how to address COVID-19 related learning losses, and promote COVID-19 vaccine take-up (see details below).
Our annual public lecture was given by Nobel Laureate Professor Michael Kremer (see details below). We’ve also had a tremendous increase in those keen to work with us as CDES non-resident fellows.
Looking ahead, we hope to enhance our outreach with conferences and workshops in Asia. We’re also strengthening our research and engagement collaboration in Indonesia and Pacific countries.
We hope to revive our regular conference in Prato, Italy, with the next one scheduled for 29-30 June 2023, and will shortly invite submissions for papers to present. Stay tuned!
Thank you all for your continued engagement and support. We wish you a happy holiday season and look forward to interacting more with you in 2023.
Regards, Professor Asad Islam Director, Centre for Development Economics and Sustainability (CDES)
