WHY STUDY MANAGEMENT? WHAT IS MANAGEMENT? In today’s dynamic and global business environment, management is vital to organisational success and employee wellbeing. Managers must provide vision and leadership to develop and motivate employees to work together towards sustainable organisational success. People are an organisation’s most important asset. Managers lead by inspiring teams to maximise their performance to achieve individual and organisational goals. A strong management team can be the difference between a business that struggles to function efficiently and one that is successful and has a great work culture. The role of a manager varies according to their level and the industry they work in, but it typically involves providing leadership, setting business goals and objectives, finding and retaining the right staff and allocating resources.

WHERE WILL MANAGEMENT TAKE YOU? Studying management will prepare you for a leadership role, in business or government, or the not-for-profit sector, social enterprise as a start-up entrepreneur, an executive, team leader, or small business owner. WAYS TO STUDY MANAGEMENT At Monash Business School, you can study business management or human resource management as part of a Bachelor of Business degree. Management practice can be studied as part of a Bachelor of Business Administration and Management studies is available as part of a Bachelor of Commerce.
Bachelor of Business – Business Management major Caulfield campus A Bachelor of Business will give you a broad business skill set. It covers accounting, marketing, business law, management, economics, business statistics and finance. Learn what makes markets, brands and organisations function effectively. Choose a Business Management major to tackle a range of organisational challenges, address strategic goals across different industries, improve existing processes and create business opportunities.

In Marketing, I’ve learnt about retail, brand management, sales and distribution and in Management; human resources and inclusion diversity. I recently worked on a project where I helped leverage an organisation’s work culture and human capital. Bachelor of Business – Human Resource Management major Caulfield campus Choose a human resource management major to cover employment law, industrial relations, workforce planning and HR strategy to help people and organisations reach their potential.
Bachelor of Business Administration – Management Practice major Peninsula campus A Bachelor of Business Administration will give you a practical business skill set. It covers accountancy, business administration, economics, finance, management and marketing. Learn how to manage, grow and improve how organisations operate. Choose a Management Practice major to learn about management theories – including business communication, project management and professional development – and how to put them into practice.
Bachelor of Commerce – Management Studies major Clayton campus A Bachelor of Commerce will give you an analytical and conceptual skill set. It covers leadership, innovation and policy development. Learn to use data, solve problems and make informed decisions.
Choose a Management Studies major to learn how to resolve management issues, manage resources and for further knowledge of management theory, organisational behaviour and strategic management.
Double degrees with Monash Business School A double degree with Monash Business School offers you a depth of knowledge by allowing you to study two disciplines from within the business school. Combine a Bachelor of Business majoring in Business Management or human resource management with a Bachelor of Accounting, Banking and Finance, or International Business. Alternatively, you can combine a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Management Studies with a Bachelor of Actuarial Science, Economics, or Finance.
Double degrees with other faculties A double degree with another faculty offers you a breadth of knowledge, as you study across disciplines and explore two interests. You can combine a Business or Commerce degree with a number of degrees, including Arts, Law, Media Communication, Engineering or Information Technology. You can also combine a Bachelor of Business Administration with a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Media Communication.
THE HIGHLIGHTS International study program Learn in a range of countries and environments Choose an international study program as an elective to explore how culture affects management practices. Eligible students undertake this unit in the summer semester, complete theoretical workshops and modules during November and December, then participate in a three-week study program in Europe in January. The program includes classes at the Monash University Centre in Prato, Italy.
Work integrated learning Put your study into practice Choose an industry-based learning elective to integrate studying and working in management. Spend time in an industry, commerce, government, non-government or community enterprise.
Professional accreditation Gain professional recognition and in some cases, the right to practice Use your study to apply for membership with the Australian Institute of Management (AIM), or Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI).
