A message from the Executive Director Just ten years after it opened, the Mondavi Center is already known around the world for its distinguished program of performing arts and for its architectural beauty and exquisite acoustics. But there also is great work behind the scenes that you often do not see—artist residencies, master classes, internship opportunities—that almost daily create individual transformational experiences inside our two theaters and around the region:

Pick 3 Select three or more performances and save 10% off the regular single ticket price.

The Pick 3 discount applies to full-price regular tickets only.

• The lifelong arts patron who discovers a brand new way into a favorite work. • The UC Davis student who launches a career in the arts with an internship in our building. • The aspiring young musician receiving tips from the likes of Leon Fleisher or Yo-Yo Ma at a master class. • The world class artist who never imagined the jewel they are seeing and hearing as they play here in Davis—and the warmth of our Sacramento region audiences. These Mondavi moments in the lives of audience members, artists and young people have been created time-after-time in this first Mondavi Center decade. During this 10th anniversary season—and well beyond!—we aspire to continue creating such moments. I think you will agree that the quality and diversity of this 10th anniversary season has us well on our way to this goal. Know that as you make your ticket purchases and donations, you are also supporting our continued ability to provide these opportunities. I look forward to celebrating our 10th anniversary season with you.

The Bacchae by Euripides Directed by Fall 2012 Granada Artist-inResidence Barry McGovern

New Choreography Devised/Choreographed by Winter 2013 Granada Artist-in-Residence Qudus Onikeku

Stage and screen actor Barry McGovern, known for his roles in Braveheart and Waiting for Godot, directs Eurpides’ famous Greek tragedy The Bacchae. The play depicts a mortal struggle between the twin forces of control and freedom. Dionysus, god of wine and revelry, aided by his wild Bacchae followers, locks horns with King Pentheus of Thebes in a violent power struggle of great confusion and madness.

A new (currently untitled) work created by Qudus Onikeku, whose Yoruba culturebased choreography often fuses hip hop, capoeira and Nigerian dance with acrobatics and tends to explore themes of identity and exile. His recent productions include STILL/Life (2011) at the Festival d’Avignon and My Exile is in my Head (2010) at Centquatre in Paris.
