Los Tigres Del Norte With roots planted in San Jose, California, Los Tigres Del Norte has grown into one of the most famous Norteño bands in the world. Their corridos (ballads) tell cinematic tales of life, love and the struggle to survive along the Mexico-United States border, featuring a style of accordion playing originating from the Texas borderlands.

This compelling program explores the cultural voyage of rhythmic patterns originating in the Latin music of Europe before migrating on to South America. An active member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, Pato became the first female gaita player to release a solo album.

Sanskrit Theater Kudiyattam is the last living representative of the classical, 2000-year-old form of Sanskrit drama. Performances usually last for nights, but this condensed performance hosts two selfcontained episodes: the demon Ravana’s attack on the moon; and a sequence from Kalidasa’s Sakuntala. Virtuoso drumming with texts screened in subtitles as well as sung and enacted through hand gestures and eye expressions are a defining aspect of the performance. This is a rare chance to behold one of India’s oldest living theatrical traditions.

La Belle, Lost in the World of the Automaton IMAGO Theatre has imagined a new fairytale experience that mixes Beauty and the Beast, steampunk aesthetics and automata all on one stage. Bill Charlap Trio with Cécile McLorin Salvant Somewhere: The Songs of Leonard Bernstein
In one of three events celebrating legendary composer Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday, jazz pianist Bill Charlap and longtime trio bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington perform songs from Charlap’s 2004 tribute, Somewhere: The Songs of Leonard Bernstein. Charlap is an acclaimed master of the Great American Songbook, whose inspired reading of Bernstein includes songs from West Side Story, On The Town, Fancy Free and Wonderful Town. Curtis on Tour: Curtis Chamber Ensemble DAVID SHIFRIN, CLARINET One of three events celebrating the 2018 Leonard Bernstein Centennial, the Curtis Institute of Music features a special program saluting Bernstein, certainly one of its most successful former students. The performance includes Bernstein’s Clarinet Sonata as played by David Shifrin (one of only two wind musicians to have won the Avery Fisher Prize), plus works by George Gershwin and Aaron Copland (another Curtis alumnus)—all performed by the Curtis Chamber Ensemble, the school’s global touring initiative, arguably containing the most talented student-musicians performing in the world today.

Both groups are famous for their high-energy performances in Ireland and around the world. For this concert, they share a double bill mixing traditional Irish music with original compositions.
