What better way to celebrate our 10th anniversary than with a familiar face. Former deputy editor Shadi Linchwe joins two of Lapologa’s newbies, Rorisang Mogojwe and Galaletsang Molabi for cocktails at one of the city’s hot new spots. She shares with them lessons learnt, challenges faced and ofcourse the good times.
W
hether it was a model having a really bad hair day or late submissions, the good times at Lapologa outweigh the challenging moments. As I look back on the 10 years Lapologa has been around I am glad to have been a part of this pioneering publication that was driven by blood, sweat and occasional tears by all those involved. While the baton of Deputy Editor has been passed on a few times since my time there, the transitions have been seamless and gotten better like a slow cooked stew. Happy 10 years to Lapologa and all those involved in her upbringing so far, and I hope to see you in more decades to come.

Such a beautiful song in its entirety, the lyrics are simple. It’s soulful and sounds intensely honest, and Jill Scott expresses the love that is reciprocated because this man loves her so deeply just as much as she loves him. What woman doesn’t want that?

MOMENTS IN TIME
hile most of Gaborone’s working class slaved away in their office cubicles, I was enjoying a mini Safari experience closer to the city. The Mokolodi Nature Reserve is a 10 minute drive out of the bustling city and boasts a variety of wild animals. If it was up to me I would’ve liked to spend a whole week enjoying the peace and calmness of the reserve, none the less I chose to absorb every piece of paradise I could while I was still there. I’ve been to Mokolodi during my first year of high school, but coming back now I discovered the park in a different light. What is now Mokolodi used to be a cattle ranch and when drought hit in the 1980s, the owners decided to lease out the land to the locals. Mokolodi was then established in 1994 because of the abundant wild life that inhabited the area. A reserve and conservation center was established to try and educate as well as preserve what was there. The white rhino is amongst one of the many species that are found in the reserve. While the reserve’s mission is to conserve and to educate, they did not leave leisure at the door. We got to enjoy a bush drive and spotted an impala, giraffe and three ostriches who were busy flaunting their wings and batting their long lashes. After the hour long drive, we were treated to the most majestic aerial view of the e horizon stretching from the Kgale hill to Notwane, with the Gaborone Dam as part of the backdrop. I envy the residents of the mansions in the distance, located along side Mokolodi dam. Come the afternoon we were treated to a bush lunch at a picnic site by the dam ending our safari experience at Mokolodi. We drove back to the city happy to know that one need not travel so far for a safari experience.
