Welcome to CGA’s 2019 Future of Finance seminar. Change is the only constant, the saying goes—and that’s undoubtedly true for the restaurant, pub and bar sector in 2019. From consumer behaviour to investor confidence to Brexit, operators have never faced so many uncertainties and unknowns. It’s our job today to help you navigate through this complex and shifting landscape, in the company of our skilled analysts and expert speakers. With the help of CGA’s deep data, we’ll be taking a close look in particular at the ups and downs of the restaurant sector lately—and mapping out the parts of the country where new openings and more sales can still be found. With caution about investment, the big question is where to put your cash and where to avoid. At a time of great political flux too, UKHospitality’s Kate Nicholls is on hand to cut through confusion around Brexit, leadership and continuing EU legislation, even if the UK parliament is log-jammed. Beyond all the changes and challenges, a big theme of today is positivity. We’ll be discussing how brands like Wasabi and Farmer J continue to secure investment, and finishing with a panel of top leaders telling us how they adapt to change through innovation and fresh thinking—and looking at new avenues for investment. All this, plus a head to head interview with Loungers CEO Nick Collins, fresh from his company’s decision to float and with views on the role of the stock market in hospitality. And once the seminar is finished, we hope you will stay on with us to discuss what we’ve learned over a drink or two. It’s a tough market out there all right, but as we’ll see today, there’s still great potential to grow a business. Thanks for being with us, and enjoy your afternoon.

How is the property market adjusting to the new trading realities? Panel discussion with Mike Cheung, Analyst, Capdesia Trevor Watson, Director, Davis Coffer Lyons

15.05 Head to Head interview: Loungers goes to market Loungers’ CEO Nick Collins on the group’s decision to IPO and what that means for the future of the business, how the process went, what he and the senior team learned, how things have changed, and whether the stock market should be home for more hospitality operators.
