Welcome
Welcome to Sleep 2017! This year feels like a coming of age; the show floor is more boutique market than exhibition, our set of installations are a conceptual playground and the conference is designed for you to be informed, inspired and to network. The show’s sensory experience has also been created with you in mind. Thanks to Auli for providing Sleep’s scent and to Bang & Olufsen and Music Concierge, who’ve collaborated to produce the soundtrack for your journey. Loyalty is the theme for the Sleep Set and Bar. Led by Content Partner, Ipsos Loyalty, our global line up of designers go in search of a guest love that transcends conventional loyalty schemes. Don’t miss these installations above ‘Spaces’. And finally, we’re on the move! We’ve enjoyed nine wonderful years here in N1 and as the event continues to evolve we’re excited to make plans for Olympia, Sleep’s new home from 2018. That’s all from me, have a great Sleep. Joel Butler Brand Manager

Loyalty: Lessons in Love
Helen Bywater-Smith Director Loyalty, Ipsos MORI
Back in March this year, after presenting to the team at UBM our views on the linkage of brand and customer experience, we were approached by Sleep to take on the role of content partner for the event, centred around the theme of ‘loyalty’. We specialise in partnering with clients to transform their businesses into customer-centric organisations. This year’s theme, loyalty, is about building relationships and emotional connections which fuse together a bond between ‘brand and being’. We are currently in the midst of a fundamental revolution: Technology is disrupting what we do, how we make decisions and our standards of product and service experience are being created by brands in totally different categories. Because these changes are not only influencing the way we behave but the way we think, we call this current era ‘The Mind Economy’(1). This reflects the fundamental psychological changes that we are starting to see shape a wide range of consumer expectations. The journey with a hotel brand starts with reading the review, before the stay has even started. So hotels need to focus on the experience which creates that review. Our work with Sleep began at the launch workshop on 24 May this year. It brought all the teams of designers together for the first time in London. Five months later, we are getting ready for the big reveal. We’re extremely excited to see how our inspiration has led to the evolution of the hotel bedroom concepts that could very well lead the way for the hotel experience of the future.

Sleep Set
Room One Stonehill Taylor “Set in an abstracted forest, the Hotel IRUS reflects and draws from a multicultural wealth of inspiration that is designed to honour the environment, embrace globalisation, respect cultural differences and create a unique experience regardless of user or location. And, to underscore the approach of building an engaged world community, the Hotel IRUS vision has been designed in New York, crafted in Istanbul and will debut in London. Vince Stroop, Principal, Stonehill Taylor

Sleep Set
4 designers. 4 rooms sets. 1 brief: To design Loyalty
Room Two MKV Design “Loyalty and love are fundamental to human beings. We need to receive loyalty and love, and we need to give. They frame our relationships with family and friends, and with our habitats; they influence what we say and do, what we experience and consume and what we feel about the life we are living. Loyalty and love are critical to the here and now and they also generate a legacy for the future. Yet, we can be profligate and promiscuous with our loyalties, using up finite resources and rejecting commitment in favour of the latest ‘must do-have-hold’. Our Sleep Set will belong somewhere within this big canvas. Inspired by an article about an island which made us think about the future.” Maria Katsarou Vafiadis, Founder and Managing Director, MKV Design
Sleep Set
21
Room Three il Prisma Group “Hotels and their designers now have a great opportunity to elicit guest loyalty by combining physical and digital worlds into a new ‘phigital’ paradigm. This has the potential not only to create connections between the hotel and its neighbourhood but to deliver new networks for guests when they return home. In our Sleep Set, we will be proposing a system suitable for all types of hotels that explores the “phigital” model. The results will be unexpected, flexible, sociable and sexy.” Gilberto Vizzini, UK Manager and Strategy Director, il Prisma
22
Sleep Set
How does a hotel plant memories and connect with guests emotionally, converting them into fans who want to tag themselves, check-in and share with others? Helen Bywater-Smith, Ipsos Loyalty
Room Four 1508 London “Details incite an emotional connection to a space and bring guests back. Through creating and highlighting fragments of the space we allow the guest’s imagination to play a part in creating a room that is personal to them. These fragmented details are what form people’s memories when visiting special places. They are the details that create an emotional connection to a space and bring people back. They are the creator of meaningful moments. These details are the small window handle that opens to reveal the stunning scenery beyond. Visitors will be invited to play a part in imagining a space full of moments of attraction for them, moments that in turn create loyalty and love.” Hamish Brown, Partner, 1508 London

The Sleeper Bar
This year’s bar will reflect the show theme – Loyalty: Lessons in Love, with design by Design & Architecture Studio Sundukovy Sisters, one of Russia’s leading hospitality design practices. Irina and Olga describe their design style as genuine, bright and contemporary with a dash of self-irony and believe that, above all, guests should feel the attention of the hotel, as if the design was created specifically for them. Designed by: Sponsored by: Iwona Kosicka Design; Amtico; LEDS-C4; Evgeny Kiselev, Digital Art Illustration Design; SIBU Design
“Our design for The Sleeper Bar will emphasise the importance of human interaction in eliciting loyalty: not only loyalty between people but loyalty between the brand and individuals. It’s a great opportunity for us to show that young designers can harmoniously integrate into the sophisticated market of hotel design, that we can both inspire and feel inspired, creating an experience that underlines the theme of the event – Loyalty: Lessons in Love. We will be using reflection and light to suggest the infinity of mankind while capturing the inner world of each guest in a moment of time. Loyalty is born out of our inner and outer worlds coming together.” Irina and Olga Sundukovy
