Going Green
Anantara Chiang Mai Resort looks to heighten the dining experience with nutrition-rich cannabis-infused menus.
Touted by some for its health-boosting properties, cannabis has undergone something of a makeover in recent years. The legalisation of marijuana in some countries quickly caught the attention of hotel operators looking to take the guest experience to the next level, notably, The Standard who in 2018 partnered with cannabis company Lord Jones to stock its line of CBD (cannabidiol) gumdrops at a handful of its US properties. Going beyond the minibar and gift shop, the plant has also found its way onto restaurant menus, as chefs turn their hand to cannabis-focused cuisine.
Anantara Chiang Mai Resort in Thailand has sought to heighten the dining experience at The Service 1921 Restaurant & Bar through the launch of a cannabis-infused food and drink menu, following a relaxation of the government rules. While the flowers, buds and seeds remain off-limits, other parts of the plant, particularly the leaves, which contain significant levels of vitamins but do not feature psychoactive THC, make an appearance on the restaurant’s finedining menu, ensuring the cannabis-curious and those just looking to ease the aches and pains associated with travelling can get their fill without feeling dazed.
Diners can now feast on signature dishes such as deep-fried seabass with cannabis leaves and pork spare ribs with cannabis soup, accompanied by drinks including H.I.D. (Hemp in Distiller) with fresh leaves, monsoon jasmine tea, pandan leaf, dry orange, and the refreshing Cannabis Fizzy, which includes soda, apple nectar, pineapple juice, lime juice, cannabis syrup, topped with cannabis leaf for added authenticity.
