4. Stay somewhere for free (and even make money)
Imagine making money doing nothing whilst relaxing in a luxurious home?
That’s what house sitting can offer. House sitting is a growing phenomenon, many people who own more than one house are away for long periods of time for business trips.
TrustedHousesitters is a good place to start. Often it might involve pet sitting, so if you’re an animal lover then looking after an adorable pooch or feline won’t feel like work at all. It’s not a way to earn lots of money, pay for long term house sitting starts at £10 a day, but it’s a good way to save.
5. Car or bike damaged by a pothole? Claim cash for it!
Have you had that annoying situation where you were cycling along a road and suddenly got thrown off, or had your bike wheel buckled because of a dirty great pothole in the road?
Or were you driving along, minding your own business, when you lost a bumper because one of your wheels hit a pothole and the whole car shuddered? Well you could get compensation for that.
Whichever authority controls that road has a legal duty to maintain it to a fit standard. If doesn't, and your car or your bicycle are damaged, the Council should pay for repairs.
Often you will only get a payout if you can prove negligence, but it's worth giving it a go. You can find your local Council here.

For example, if you’re a great cook you can bake someone a cake and then use those credits to get someone to do your gardening.

76. Be a ‘Freegan’
If you’ve got no qualms about ‘best before’ dates, then this could be right up your street. It involves rifling through bins at the back of supermarkets to get a hold of left over food destined for the scrap heap. Most of the stuff thrown away is perfectly all right to eat, just past its sell-by date. Currently supermarkets chuck out about 5% of their food each day because they’re required to by law, not because it’s bad or harmful. The more Freegans cleaning up, the better, we say.
The only problem is, it’s not really legal, so not many can do it. However, some shops don’t mind you diving into their dumpsters. See what we have to say about it in our free food article here.
