COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER:

Class: COD ARCH 2202 – Architectural Design II

Professor: Mark Pearson

Semester: Spring 2021

Duration: 12 weeks

Awards: Second place in a national competition sponsored by the Coalition of Community College Architecture Programs

The community resource center creates a balance between an inviting and open environment and a safe and secure environment. The balance between these two states is crucial to ensure that the community not only feels encouraged to seek these resources that are provided but also feels safe doing so. This balance was achieved by carving out negative spaces from the extruded site to serve different purposes related to the surrounding contexts and people’s needs.

The biggest outdoor space is a pocket park recessed four feet below grade to create a safe outdoor space for everyone. The second outdoor space is a covered seating area at the entrance of the building. It has a view towards the neighborhood intersection where the bus stop and subway entrance are located. This space provides shelter, a charging station, and internet access. Outdoor terraces are carved out of the building’s massing and support the adjacent program.

SUSTAINABILITY

ORGANIZATION

Materiality:

The building material is concrete, as it creates a secure and safe environment, appropriate for an urban environment since it’s more affordable than other material and has similar qualities to brick and stone, the material of the surrounding buildings. A green wall is placed in the pocket park to create a more inviting atmosphere and balance out the uninviting effects of concrete.

Sustainability:

This green wall and the pocket park will not only improve the quality of life for the community but also improves the natural ventilation of the building, cooling it in the summer months and reducing energy consumption. Rainwater is drained and collected for the green wall, reducing runoff in the urban sewer systems and water waste.

Organization:

The program is divided into three levels. The first level is the community which includes: Lobby,Reception, Cafe, and Childcare drop-off. The second floor is Services: The Service offices aswell as a Waiting Lobby and Conference Room. And the third floor is Education: Adult TecRoom, Tutoring Space, and The Director’s Office.

Class: ARCH 1131 – Introduction to Architectural Design

Semester: spring 2020

Duration: 3 weeks FORM:

Project description:

After creating a flat two-dimensional ink line drawing for the Assemblage and Hierarchy project, the goal for the following assignment is to move the two-dimensional drawing into a three-dimensional model. Then draw the full range of values from black to white of the shadows and tone that articulate the three-dimensional form. And finally an acrylic color painting as a personal project to show three dimensionalities using color.

LIGHT WALL:

Class: ARCH 2202 – Architectural Design II

Professor: Mark Pearson

Semester: Spring 2021

Duration: 2 weeks

Project Description:

design a place - in section- of a south facing wall section that gives an adjacent space a sense of place through the modulation of natural daylight.

Concept:

This light wall uses the different solar angles from the southfacing facade to create a complementary atmosphere. The higher angle of summer sun rays passes mostly through the blue glass to create a cooler atmosphere. the lower angle of the winter sun rays passes more through the orange glass to create a warmer atmosphere

NORTHERLY ISLAND SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE

Class: IIT ARCH 417/ 418 – Architectural Design 4RD YEAR

Professor: Andy Tinucci

Semester: Fall 2023 - Spring 2024

Duration: Year Long

The School of Architecture was formally initiated as The Taliesin Fellowship in 1932 when twenty-three young people came to live and learn at Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright’s estate and home near Spring Green, Wisconsin. A School where “the entire work of feeding and caring for the student body so far as possible should be done by itself… work in the gardens, cooking, cleaning, and serving should rotate among the students. Over the next 90 years, the School and Apprentices designed and built two campuses, both in Spring Green, Wisconsin (Taliesin) and in Chandler, Arizona (Taliesin West). This year-long project aims to create a third school of architecture located on Northerly Ilsand in Chicago, IL.

ART: INK & LINE DRAWINGS

Artwork crafted through the college art clubs that showcases diverse creativity and skill. For instance, initiatives such as “Inktober”, embraced by the art club at IIT, to create intricate ink illustrations based on daily prompts throughout October. Similarly, “Plenaire,” a specialized art club, centers its efforts on capturing outdoor scenes through drawing or painting.
