Dear Friends, The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara is excited to have surpassed a major 75 year anniversary milestone in 2013! Our five cores programs are Health & Life Skills, Sports Fitness and Recreation, Education and Career Development, Arts, Character and Leadership Development. It was a very productive year for the Club. We continued with many of our regular programming, plus added a variety of new ones: • Multimedia Program: film making, script writing, photography • Learning Plus Literacy program • EverFi Financial Literacy program with Union Bank Thanks to all our supporters of the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara in 2013 and years past. We value and appreciate your involvement with our organization throughout the years. You have helped enable our Club to keep kids off the streets and engaged in positive programs and activities that keep them moving in a positive direction. We could not do this without all of you who support our cause!

Work Hard, Study Hard

Anessa Gallegos, 5th grade

The Math tutoring program helped me improve a lot. Before I had below basis and 64%. Not anymore. Now I have advanced in the 90% and even 100%. But Math isn’t all. Joanne has improved my reading scores from average (5th grade) to advanced (8th grade) and I am only in the 5th grade. So please let Jessica and Joanne improve other kids’ scores.

ur mission is “to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”

Stronger Communities

Club Teens receive the “Spirit Award” from Mayor Helene Schneider

Community support sets an example for our kids. Leadership and community service define “the Club kid,” and members who attend the Club regularly are more likely to give back to the community. Participants in Keystone Club, Torch Club and Rotary Interact lead major community service projects. They participated in neighborhood graffiti removal, fundraising car washes, and beach clean ups over the past year.

Good Choices Kids today face more choices than ever, and the decisions they make today will impact their future. From computer classes to cooking classes, sports leagues to gang prevention, Club members learn to take responsibility for making good choices. Many of our Club members and alumni say the Club changed their life. Club kids attend Healthy Choices classes offered by the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County every month. Members who attend regularly are 45% more likely to exercise at least 6 times a week.

36,656 free meals and snacks were served at the Club in 2013
