Intro

Target audience is young elementary students (1-3). The purpose of our e-book is to educate and enhance information about the famous author Dr. Seuss, in a fun and technological way, as well as to go further in-depth on the characters of his stories that we have read in class already. The e-book will help students’ minds to better grasp the personalities and behaviors of the story characters Dr. Suess uses.Â

Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2nd, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts. He went to college at Dartmouth College, where he became extremely involved in the college’s humor magazine. He eventually became editor-in-chief of the magazine, and was an avid cartoonist. While drawing his cartoons, Theodor used the pen name Dr. Seuss when signing his cartoons. This is where his famous name came from. % %

% % After moving to oxford college, he began doodling in his notebooks instead of taking notes in class. This is how he met his wife, Helen Palmer. She saw him doodling in class and convinced him to become a cartoonist instead of an English teacher. After leaving college without graduating, Dr. Seuss began writing projects of all kinds. He wrote for many magazines, newspapers, and cartoon agencies. It wasn’t until his later life that he wrote his first children’s book, The Cat in the Hat. From there on out he wrote many more children’s books with rhymes and funny words. His books became so well-loved that they are still selling millions of copies today.

Green Eggs and Ham

Summary: ! Green Eggs and Ham is about a character named Sam who keeps asking his unnamed friend if he would like green eggs and ham. The unnamed friend is the narrator. Each time he says no, Sam asks if he wants them in a dierent location or with something like in a car, in a box, or with a fox. Characters: -Sam-I-Am -Narrator

Interactive 3.1 Green Eggs and Ham

What You’ll Need knife, medium-size mixing bowl, wire whisk or eggbeater, large frying pan, spatula, aluminum foil, serving plates

How to make Green Eggs and Ham? Ingredients 1-2 tablespoons of butter or margarine 4 slices of ham
 8 eggs
 2 tablespoons of milk 1-2 drops of green food coloring 1/4 teaspoon of salt
 1/4 teaspoon of pepper

1. With an adult’s help, melt a teaspoon of butter in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add sliced ham and brown until edges are slightly crisp. Remove the ham from the pan, cover with aluminum foil, and set aside. 2. In a medium-size mixing bowl, combine the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Beat with a whisk until frothy. Then add 1-2 drops of green food coloring until you reach the desired shade of green. 3. With an adult’s help, heat a tablespoon of butter or margarine in a large frying pan over medium heat until the butter begins to sizzle. Then add the egg mixture to the pan. 4. Stir the egg mixture with a spatula until the eggs are firm and not too runny. 5. Transfer the eggs to individual plates. Garnish with a sprig of parsley. Add the ham prepared earlier. Serve with toast or warm rolls.

Horton Hears a Who

Summary

Horton Hears a Who is about a brave elephant named Horton,

who cares more about others than about what people think of himself. One day, Horton’s giant elephant ears hear a very small sound. He finally realized that the small sound is coming from a tiny speck on a flower. Listening closer, Horton hears that there is an entire tiny little world on that speck! The people on that speck ask Horton to keep them safe from harm, and Horton promises to do so. % % While protecting the speck, Horton gets made fun of by all of his friends. A group of monkeys taunt him, and a Kangaroo lets everyone know about his strange behavior.. They tie Horton up and take the speck from him, thinking that Horton is crazy. Horton convinces all the Who’s on the speck to make as much noise as they can. When the tiny quiet Who JoJo adds to the noise, the animals in Horton’s jungle can hear them. They then help Horton to protect the Whos and the Speck.

Horton Hears a Who Characters Characters: Horton: Horton is a fun-loving and kind elephant. He is very brave because he always does what is right even when others make fun of him. His favorite quote is “I mean what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant’s faithful 100%” He loves making new friends and is especially good friends with JoJo the who and Morton the Mouse. They spend much time together even though they are all very different.

JoJo: JoJo is the only boy in the house with his Mom, Dad, and his 96 sisters. Because of this, he is generally very quiet. In fact, he never talks at all. He loves spending time in his abandoned observa9

tory, because it is here that he is creating a new instrument. When his town needs him to help make noise to avoid destruction, he uses his instrument to help create sound. He also finally overcomes his fear of talking by yelling “YOPPP!!” which is what causes the people of Horton’ world to hear that the speck really does contain people.

Morton: Morton is a mouse who is best friends with Horton. The two make a very odd pair, given that elephants are usually afraid of mice. Morton gives Horton good advice about what to do is hard situations, and has always stood by his side.

Summary:

% % How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is about a mean old sourpuss name the Grinch. The Grinch had a heart that was too small, and hated Christmas. One Christmas Eve, Grinch decides that he has had enough, and decides to steal Christmas. He dresses like Santa, and steals all of Whoville’s presents, food, and decorations. % % The Grinch was just about to dump all of the things he stole off of the mountain, when the sun comes up. He expects to hear all of the Whos getting angry and crying because their Christmas has been ruined. Instead, all of the Whos join hands in a circle in the middle of town, and begin singing. The Grinch is so surprised by their love, that his heart grows three sizes. He returns all of their things, and is invited to spend Christmas with the rest of the Whos.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas Characters: Grinch: The Grinch at first is a mean, nasty old soul. He loves everything gross and disgusting, hates people, and hates Christmas worst of all. He often comes up with mean tricks and schemes to make others miserable. His worst scheme of all was stealing Christmas. Nowadays, the Grinch is  loving and kind person who loves Christmas. He is very pleasant to be around.

Cindy-Lu Who: This little girl is extremely sweet. She is an adorable who that loves others and loves Christmas. CindyLu catches the Grinch in the act while he steals her Christmas tree, but he comes up with a lie that he is simply fixing it. In the end she still loves the Grinch even after finding out that he stole her Christmas. Because of this, many people love her.

The Cat in the Hat

Summary: % Sally and her brother are stuck inside on a rainy day. Â All of a sudden, a cat wearing a hat shows up! This cat is a lot of fun. He bounces around, throws things, and can balance on a ball. At the end of the day however, they realize they have made a huge mess! The cat then comes up with an extremely fun plan of cleaning up the house before their mother gets home. They turned the most boring day ever into a day filled with fun!

The Cat in the Hat Characters: Cat: The cat is full of fun and adventure. He can be a bit overbearing at times, as he can seem too carefree and makes a lot of messes. He knows many dierent games and fun songs and has a lot of fun with his friends Sally and her brother. At the end of the day, he helps clean up their house and makes everything better.  Fish: the fish is all about rules. He does not like to have fun, and hates messes. Because of this, he does not get along with the Cat in the Hat. He complains all the time, and tries to stop all of the fun. Although he seems mean, he only does all of this because he cares about the two kids, and they care about him too.

Things 1 & 2: These two characters are crazy. They do the exact opposite of what they are told. They make huge messes and tear everything up. In the end, they help clean up just like the Cat in the Hat.

Oh the Places You’ll Go!

% “Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” These words written by Dr. Seuss in his book Oh the Places You’ll Go show his enthusiasm toward children and their dreams. He also stated that “The more you read, the more you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Dr. Seuss was extremely supportive about getting kids to read. He tried to make his books fun and entertaining for young children. He also focused on the amount of words he used in each book and how simple they would be for young children to learn. This unique style of writing is what makes his books loved and cherished by parents, teachers, and kids like yourself still today.
