Glacier Country’s Trails Prime For Riding.

With many towns in Western Montana surrounded by forests, our region is a haven for bikers searching for accessible trails and terrain. MISSOULA VALLEY: An ideal launching point in the southern tier of Glacier Country, Missoula has biking trails that fan out in all directions. Located 2 miles southwest of Missoula is Blue Mountain Recreation Area. A diversified use area, Blue Mountain has ATV, motorcycle, horse and mountain biking trails that vary from steep freeriding to open meadows with a beautiful view of the Garden City. Other popular biking destinations include Pattee Canyon Recreation Area, Montana Snowbowl and the Clark Fork Riverfront—a trail in the heart of Missoula that runs parallel to the Clark Fork River. HIAWATHA TRAIL: Just off I-90 in Western Montana is one of the most breathtaking scenic stretches for biking—the Hiawatha Rail Trail. The trail takes bikers along a 15-mile-long railroad route, passing through 10 tunnels and across seven high steel trestles.

ng Fall paints a pretty picture alo T ierM lac the Bitterroot River. #G

GLACIER NATIONAL PARK: The Going-to-the-Sun Road is one of the most stunning routes for biking in Glacier Country. Spring—prior to the road opening for vehicular traffic—is one of the best times of year to bike the road. The early season provides crisp mountain air and breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and rushing waters. During the busy season of summer, there are time restrictions as to when cyclists can be on the road. FLATHEAD VALLEY: Located in Glacier Country’s northern tier, the Flathead Valley offers abundant options for biking. Whitefish Mountain Resort has more than 20 miles of liftaccessed and cross country mountain bike trails, with gorgeous views of both Glacier National Park and the expansive valley. Other northern tier riding options include The Whitefish Trail in Whitefish, Rails to Trails in Kalispell, Fisher Divide Trail near Libby or Foy’s to Blacktail south of Kalispell. VICTOR NAMED IN HONOR of a notable Flathead Indian Chief is Victor. Sitting at the base of the Bitterroot Mountains and along the blue-ribbon Bitterroot River, Victor offers access to the Bitterroot National Forest. Visitors to the area are well-advised to explore the Victor Heritage Museum, housed in the old railroad depot. Operated by volunteers, the museum has many relics and remnants of the past, including railroad memorabilia, mining information and American Indian exhibits. www.glaciermt.com/victor

OUTSIDE GLACIER - AMENITIES While we blatantly tout Glacier Country as perhaps the loveliest part of Montana (we admit it, we’re partial), there are many other areas under this big blue sky that are just as lovely, just as serene and just as refreshingly beautiful as our corner of paradise. Within these areas are businesses, communities and friendly folks ready for your visit. VISITOR INFORMATION Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce P.O. Music:

Kick Up Your Heels. When it comes to our local music scene, we’re like proud parents. Western Montana is home to talented musicians that fill our mountains, valleys and towns with harmonious music. And while we’re not sure if it’s the crisp mountain air that makes their melodies so sweet or if they gather inspiration from the region’s stunning terrain, we know one thing for sure: our musicians know how to rock it. With a bevy of music venues that include Symes Hot Springs Hotel in Hot Springs, Casey’s Bar in Whitefish and The Univeristy of Montana in Missoula, you’re sure to find something to please your musical palette. The Lil’ Smokies are well-known for their acoustic bluegrass music. © TOMMY MARTINO

When you’re in our neck of the woods and local Montana musicians are playing, you’re well-advised to catch them in action. (Trust us, your eardrums will thank you). Some of our favorite local Montana bands include Tom Catmull’s Radio Static, Copper Mountain Band, Shodown, Reverend Slanky, VTO, Secret Powers, The Lil’ Smokies, John Floridis, Zeppo, The Clintons, Jack Gladstone, Singing Sons of Beaches, David Walburn, Cold Hard Cash and Moonshine Mountain.
