Helena photographer JASON SAVAGE was heading north on Montana Highway 83 to lead a photography workshop in Bigfork when he drove past Salmon Lake and stopped at a pullout to photograph the scenic site. “It was mid-October, and I was looking at all those larch (tamaracks) on the far shore and that lone tree on the small island,” he says. “It was a partly cloudy day, and I could see that a ray of sun breaking through the clouds might light up that tree while the others in the background remained in the shade. And luckily it happened. To top it off, there was almost no wind on the lake, so I also got this great reflection of the tree in the calm water.” ■
