SNAPSHOT

Photographer ROLAND TAYLOR has had a soft spot for Great Falls ever since moving there in 1972. “It’s a great little rural city, but you don’t see many nice photos of it,” he says. Late one evening while along the banks of the Missouri River, which runs through town, Taylor noticed a picturesque sunset forming in the clouds over the river just below the Central Avenue Bridge. “The scene, with the clear water and underwater stones in the foreground, reminded me of similar shots I’ve taken of Lake Bowman in Glacier National Park,” Taylor says. “The photo causes a double-take. It’s not some wilderness but instead an urban setting. Having the city sandwiched in the photo between sky and water emphasizes Great Falls’ position in the natural landscape. I hope when people see this shot they realize that the city has this incredible, beautiful resource flowing right through its heart.” n
