Montana 1941 P ro sp ec ts The p ig sk in p ic tu r e seen in th e c r y s ta l b a ll re v e a ls th a t Coach Doug Fessenden of Montana S ta te U n iv e rsity w i l l f i e l d a s u rp ris in g ly stro n g team which i s both b e t t e r than l a s t y e a r ’ s club and b e tt e r th an e x p e c ta tio n s .

Although

th e re are a few d o u b tfu l item s about th e p ro sp e c ts f o r Montana in 1941, se v e ra l b rig h t f a c to r s serve to boost th e G riz zly stock and p o in t to a su c c e ss fu l y e ar. Montana’s p ig sk in o u tlook from an e a rly -se a s o n stan d p o in t i s made ris k y through n a tio n a l developments but w ith every man in th e r o s t e r re tu rn in g —in clu d in g 21 key le tte rm e n —th e G r iz z lie s should be w e ll f o r t i f i e d w ith capable m a te ria l. Montana’s 1941 squad to be the l i g h t e s t since 1936, w i l l have v e r te rsn s a t every p o s itio n s w ith some good-looking sophomores backing them up.

With

normal improvement by l a s t y e a r’ s re g u la r s and the sw ift development of the prom ising p e a-g re en s, the G r iz z lie s w ill be ready a t th e season’ s o u ts e t and should have th e s tre n g th f o r a f a s t s t a r t .

The team w ill be minus s ix graduates

w ith th e p r in c ip a l lo s s being h a lfb a ck Jack Emigh, however, re tu rn in g letterm en should o f f s e t th e vacancy in easy manner.

Three major f e a tu re s of th e coming

f a l l season a ct as p o in ts of prom ise f o r a b e tt e r year th an in 1940 and they are (1) b e tt e r s p i r i t should p r e v a il, (2) defen siv e play w i l l undoubtedly show a v a st improvement and (3) th e w e ll-b a la n c ed schedule gives th e Montana G riz z lie s a chance to get hold of them selves. B r ie f ly , th e s i t u a t i o n summed up on paper in d ic a te s th a t chances are b rig h t f o r a good season, and b e t t e r y e t f o r a campaign su rp a ssin g l a s t y e a r’ s r e s u lts .

One weak spot in th e l in e i s the stum blingblock but Fessenden has

The Montana squad should have more speed on o ffe n s e ,
