Before graduating from Oregon S ta te C o lle g e in 19 2 1 , Cac won 9 v a r s it y l e t t e r s by p a r tic ip a tin g in F o o tb a ll, B a sk e tb a ll and B a s e b a ll. He was A ll- P a c if ic Coast C onference in F o o tb a ll and B a sk e tb a ll and was o ffe r e d a P r o f e s s io n a l c o n tr a c t in B a se b a ll which he turned down t o go in to C o lle g ia te Coaching. S ta r tin g h is Coaching career a t Oregon S ta te in 1921 as an A s s is t a n t , Cac moved to th e C o lle g e o f Paget Sound in 1927 a s Head F o o tb a ll Coach and D irecto r o f A t h l e t ic s . From 1929 to 1932 saw Hubbard D ir e c tin g th e P h y sica l Education Department and Headirg th e Coaching s t a f f a t th e San F ra n cisco Olympic Club. Pro f e s s o r Hubbard to ek over Denver U n iv e r s ity 's B a sk e tb a ll Fortunes in 1932 where he a ls o se r v ­ ed as a s s i s t a n t F o o tb a ll Coach. In th e n ext 17 y ea rs a t D.U. Cac coached a l l o f th e s p o r ts a t one tim e or th e o th e r , winning many B a s e b a ll, B a sk etb a ll and G olf cham pionships. As head F o o tb a ll Coach and D irecto r o f A t h l e t i c s , in 1945 he won D en ver's f i r s t F o o tb a ll C onference t i t l e in 37 y ea rs and took th e pion­ eer e le v e n t o p la y in th e Sun Bowl. The years from 1942 to 1944 saw L t, C ol. Hubbard s e r v in g w ith th e U nited S t a t e s A ir Force as a P h y s ic a l Education and D ir e c to r o f T raining O f f ic e r . R eturning to Denver U n iv e r sity a f t e r th e War, Cac coached F o d b a ll and was D ir e c to r o f A t h le t ic s u n t i l 1949 when he moved to M issoula and took over th e D ir e c to r sh ip o f Mentana U n iv e r s it y 's A t h le t ic Departm ent, The p a st th ree y e a r s he has been masterminding th e ad m in istra­ t i v e s i d e o f A t h le t ic s a t th e U. and making u n b e lie v a b le g a in s in stren g th en ­ in g and d ev elo p in g th e A t h le t ic program. The G r iz z lie s en tran ce in to th e S k y lin e "3" in 1950 i s one exam ple. This gave Montana th e f i r s t opportun­ i t y in h er h is t o r y to p la y a f u l l C onference sch ed u le and a ls o to be on a more eq u al fo o t in g in c o m p e titio n . Cac i s married and has two c h ild r e n , D ick , a h a lfb a ck on th e G r iz z ly F o o tb a ll team, and Nan, a sophomore a t Mon-v* tan a U n iv e r s it y . Chinske jo in ed th e G r iz z ly A t h le t ic S t a f f in 1946 as A s s is t a n t F o o t b a ll, B a s k e tb a ll, and Head B a se b a ll Coach. The new G r iz z ly coach came t o Montana U n iv e r s ity fo r th e f i r s t tim e as a stu d en t back in 1926 as a Junior C ollege T ran sfer from Winona Normal in M innesota. He played as h a lfb a ck and quarterback f o r th ree g rid s e a s o n s , was e le c t e d Captain o f th e 1928 S ilv e r t ip E leven . Eddie a ls o le t t e r e d t h r ic e in B a sk etb a ll and was awarded two l e t t e r s in B a se b a ll and one in G o lf w h ile a tte n d in g th e U n iv e r s ity . He i s s t i l l a par C-olpher. The new mentor^ f i r s t coaching assignm ent was h a n d lin g th e G rizzly Cubs in 1929, which l o s t o n ly one game th a t sea so n . In 1930 he moved to M iles C ity as head coach o f a l l s p o r t s . The sea so n o f 1936 saw Chinske move to M issoula County High Sch ool where he remained u n t i l in k in g th e U n iv e r sity con­ t r a c t in 1946. In th e 16 y ea rs t h a t Eddie coached High S ch o o l he chalked up more S ta te Championship T it l e s in F o o tb a ll and B a sk etb a ll than any Coach in th e h is t o r y o f th e S t a t e . Coach Chinske c lo se d h is h igh s c h o o l coaching ca reer w ith 22 s t r a i g h t v i c t o r i e s . As Freshman coach a t th e U, th e cub team under h is guidance won 13 and l o s t 3 gam es. Born in Miahigan C ity , I n d ., one o f n in e s e n s . JOHN ZEGER, l i n e coach, i s s t a r t in g h is f i r s t year a t Montana U n iv e r sity t h is f a l l . Zeger comes t o th e U n iv e r sity from Olympic Junior C o lleg e where he has been Head F o o tb a ll Ccach and in s tr u c to r i n H ealth and P h y sic a l Education s in c e 1949. His teams th e r e won th e Washington-Oregon Junior C o lleg e co n feren ce championships three y ea rs i n a row . He i s a n a tiv e o f C hicago, born February 6 , 1919 and a tten d ­ ed H arrison Tech High School in C hicago. He entered th e U n iv e r s ity o f Washihgton in 1939 and p layed f o o t b a ll under Jim Phelan in 1940 and 1941. During th e war he was in th e A ir Force and played oh th e Fourth A ir Force f o o t b a ll team . John r e ­ turned t o W ashington U n iv e r sity in 1946 where he made a l l P a c i f ic Coast Conference th a t season and a ls o had th e honor o f ca p ta in in g th e *46 H u sk ies. A fte r one season o f p la y in g p r o f e s s io n a l f o o t b a ll w ith th e New York G iants he retu rn ed t o Washington as an A s s is t a n t Coach. In 1948, during th e i l l n e s s o f Coach Howie O’D e ll , Zeger held down th e Head Line Coach d u t ie s . His f r ie n d ly humorous n atu re makes him a n a tu r a l in m eeting th e p u b lic Dahlberg graduated from Montana in 1925 not o n ly w ith a t h l e t i c honors but w ith s c h o la s t ic honors as w e ll . A fte r gra d u a tio n , J ig g s went t o M iles C ity fo r four y ea rs d u rin g which tim e he chalked up two s t a t e cham pionships. Hcquaim, Washington prep s c h o o l was second s to p on D ahlberg’s tour and h ere he p ilo t e d th e Hoquaim la d s t o 10 v ic t o r i e s in 11 games f o r two se a so n s, and captured th e South­ w est Washington t i t l e in b a s k e tb a ll. J ig g s moved to Anaconda f o r a y e a r , then went back to P u yullup fb r fou r y e a r s . J u s t b efore coming back t o h is alma mater in 1937, D ahlberg was a t C h e h a llis , W ashington, f o r a sea so n . J ig g s was b a sk e tb a ll mentor and a s s i s t e d w ith f o o t b a ll u n t i l 1942, when he was c a lle d in t o th e Army. He coached F o rt Lawton b a s e b a ll teams in Washington S t a t e to a sem i-p ro championsh ip sa lo n g w ith p u ttin g o u t some f i n e b a s k e tb a ll team s. He retu rn ed t o Montana in 1945 and i n 1949 developed th e G r iz z l y ’s g r e a t e s t b a sk e tb a ll squad; th ey broke 12 th e 20 e x i s t i n g U n iv e r s ity reco rd s t h a t sea so n . J ig g s i s m arried and has two young c h ild r e n . GENERAL FRANK MILBURN, a s s i s t a n t coach , has returned to Montana U n iv e r sity t h is summer a f t e r an absence o f 21 y e a r s . General M ilburn, who graduated from West P oin t in 191 4 , coached th e G r iz z ly F o o tb a ll and B a seb a ll teams from 1926 t o 1931, when he commanded th e R.O.T.C. Department a t th e U n iv e r s ity . R e tir in g from th e Army a f t e r 33 y ea rs o f a c t iv e s e r v i c e , th e L t. General has r e jo in e d th e F a cu lty o f Montana t o assume both coaching and a d m in istr a tiv e d u t ie s . He w i l l tak e charge o f hhe G r iz z ly b a s e b a ll squad and w i l l , o f co u rse, be o f g r e a t s e r v ic e in h elp in g h is 1923 C ap tain , Eddie C hinske, in running th e f o o t b a ll program. The G en era l, whose war record runs from th e Iron C urtain in Europe around th e world t o K orea, i s one o f th e most!!h i g h ly d ecorated G enerals in th e n a tio n . Thru th e y e a r s he has stayed contemporary w ith p r o g r e ssiv e a t h l e t i c s . A g rea t f o llo w e r and p a r t ic ip a n t in a l l s p o r t s . The v e r y y o u th fu l-lo o k in g Milburn w i l l be a g r e a t a d d itio n in b oth a b i l i t y and p r e s t ig e t o th e G r iz z ly coaching s t a f f . Though w ith o th er a d m in is tr a tiv e d u t ie s , Coach Milburn w i l l d ev o te most o f h is tim e in th e f a l l and s p r in g tu to r in g Montana a t h le t e s . HARRY ADAMS, b a c k fie ld coach and head s c o u t, i s s t a r t in g h is 3 1 s t year as a member o f Montana U n iv e r s it y 's A t h le t ic S t a f f . A graduate o f Montana in 1921, Harry was s ig n e d as A s s is ta n t F o o t b a ll, B a sk e tb a ll, and Track Coach th a t year and has remained lo y a l to th e G r iz z lie s s i n c e . His main d u tie s as Head Track Coach and A s s is t a n t A t h le t ic D irecto r ha\e n o t kept him from p a r t ic ip a t in g w holeh earted ly in th e f o o t b a l l program. One o f th e to p s c o u ts in th e w e st, i t i s Coach Adams who tr a v e ls th e lo n g sc o u tin g c i r c u i t f o r th e v a lu a b le d ata needed fo r next-weekb s tr a te g y . As an undeigraduate fo r Montana, Harry sta rred in F o o t b a ll, B a sk etb a ll and Track. He was a member o f th e Track m ile r e la y foursome which a t one tim e held th e w o r ld 's r e c o r d . Beyond a d ou b t, Coach Adams i s one o f th e G r iz z ly 's G reatest o f O ld. He serv ed in th e l a s t World War as a C olo n el, under G eneral Frank M ilburn, who has r e c e n t ly r e t ir e d and retu rn ed t o th e Montana U n iv e r sity F a c u lty , Noted f o r h is f in e tr a c k sq u a d s, Coach Adams has never l o s t a S ta te Track Championship. Some o f h i s p rod u cts are Jack Emigh and Ole Ueland in th e s p r in ts and middle d is ­ ta n ces; A1 E i s e l e i n and James S a y le r in th e hurdles and lumps, and most r e c e n t i s Dick D oyle, D is c u s , who 1b a member' 6 f. th e A ll-A m erican jra fik Team o f 1950. He i s m arried and has th ree c h ild r e n .
