The new G r iz z ly coach came t o Montana U n iv e r s it y f o r th e f i r s t tim e a s a s tu d e n t back i n 1926 a s a J u n io r C o lle g e T r a n s f e r from Winona Normal i n M in n e so ta . He p lay ed a s h a lf b a c k and q u a rte rb a c k f o r t h r e e g r i d s e a s o n s , wa3 e l e c te d C a p ta in o f th e 1923 S i l v e r t i p E lev en . E ddie a l s o l e t t e r e d t h r i c e in B a s k e tb a ll and was aw arded two l e t t e r s i n E a s e b a ll an d one i n G o lf w h ile a tte n d in g th e U n iv e r s it y . He i s s t i l l a p a r G o l f e r . The new m e n to r 's f i r s t c o a c h in g a s s ig n ­ ment was h a n d lin g t h e G r iz z ly Cubs i n 1 9 2 9 , which l e s t o n ly one game t h a t se a s o n . I n 1930 h e moved t o M iles C ity a s h e a d coach o f a l l s p o r t s . The s e a s o n o f 1936 saw C hinske move t o M isso u la County High S chool where h e rem ained u n t i l in k in g th e U n iv e r s ity c o n t r a c t in 1 9 4 6 . I n t h e 16 y e a r s t h a t E ddie coached High S ch o o l he c h a lk e d up more S t a t e Cham pionship T i t l e s i n F o o tb a ll and B a s k e tb a ll th a n any Coach i n th e h i s t o r y o f t h e S t a t e .
