ANNUAL GIVING HELPS MKA GROW

A NOTE FROM THE HEADMASTER Every year, we ask the MKA community to go above and beyond the call of duty with an unrestricted donation to Annual Giving. Current parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, faculty, staff and even current students answer this call with a gift that goes right back into the programs and mission of MKA which make our community so extraordinary. Annual Giving contributions allow not only our students to continue to learn and grow, but our faculty and staff as well. Improved technology and professional development keep the classroom environment lively, fun and productive. Our students demonstrate time and time again that the MKA experience goes far beyond a typical education. Our students are prepared for and engaged with the world. Annual Giving allows us the budgeted dollars to

continue with the level of integrity and excellence that is expected at MKA. In addition, Annual Giving permits us to have a diverse student body that seeks and receives a world-class education. Please take a moment to read through this brochure, which explains just what Annual Giving is and what it does for MKA. On behalf of all of us who benefit from your support and generosity, I thank you. I look forward to seeing you on campus to witness and discuss all of the wonderful things we are currently doing at MKA. Warmest regards,

WHAT IS ANNUAL GIVING? Annual Giving provides critical unrestricted support for the basic operation of the school and guarantees that our classrooms, stages and athletic fields are filled with the best teachers and coaches. MKA relies upon tuition revenue to cover 92% of our operating costs. Annual Giving contributions help us fill that gap and enable us to offer a wealth of academic and co-curricular activities. By supporting MKA’s Annual Giving effort, you receive a number of benefits. You will have the knowledge that your gift supports our students immediately; your donation is 100% tax-deductible, and you will be recognized in our Annual Report sent to over 7,500 households. We use two measurement guidelines to determine the success of our Annual Giving appeal - dollars raised and participation. The dollars raised are put to immediate use to fund programs benefiting our students and faculty. The participation is an overall indicator of the confidence and support of the MKA community as well as a metric which is used to compare MKA to its peer schools. In addition, our parent participation is often reviewed for foundation and grant gifts. Every gift, regardless of amount, benefits our students, moves us closer to our dollar goal and counts towards participation.

Every gift matters, especially yours!

MAKING YOUR GIFT Throughout the fiscal year, we ask members of the MKA community to make a gift or pledge in support of our Annual Giving appeal. Every contribution, regardless of amount, has an immediate impact on the everyday life of our students and faculty. The benefit of making your gift early in the fiscal year is that we can put your Annual Giving dollars to the best use as soon as possible. The difference between a pledge and a gift is that a gift is dollars in hand. When you pledge your support, you make a commitment for a specific dollar amount with a promise to

ANNUAL GIVING AND YOUR SUPPORT OF PAMKA

A

s you navigate your time and your child’s days and years at MKA, you will encounter many ways to support our school. Whether that be monetary support, volunteering, or attending some of the fun and educational events we have on campus, there are many ways to be involved at MKA. Two areas where there are great opportunities to do this are Annual Giving and PAMKA. Your gift to Annual Giving supports our general operating budget. When you contribute, your gift is put to immediate use towards the highest priority for students and faculty, unless you choose a specific designation. By donating to Annual Giving, you are formally counted in the school’s donor participation and publically acknowledged in our Annual Report. A high donor participation rate helps to demonstrate the health and strength of our school community – a public statement of your belief in MKA. The Parents’ Association of MKA (PAMKA) also provides you with an opportunity to give back to our school. PAMKA is a parent volunteer organization established to provide opportunities for parents to participate in the support and enhancement of the students’ educational experience at MKA. PAMKA pursues its mission working in cooperation with the school administration through activities consistent with the policies and goals established by the Board of Trustees. A donation to PAMKA will be distributed to special restricted projects that directly benefit faculty and students, such as Faculty Trust Grants and Faculty Wish Lists which provide equipment that supports academics, athletics and the arts at MKA. Gifts to PAMKA also support programs that span the three MKA campuses and bring the entire MKA community together through social, educational and service learning events. In addition, PAMKA is the largest donor to the Faculty Compensation Endowment, which helps to provide funding for professional development. Unlike Annual Giving, there is no formal public recognition for your donations to PAMKA as they are associated with the PAMKA events held throughout the school year. No matter how you chose to support MKA during your child’s time here, we hope you will become involved in many of the exciting initiatives we have throughout the year. If you have any questions regarding either Annual Giving or PAMKA, please contact Talia Selove, Director of Annual Giving, at (973) 842-2769 or tselove@mka.org.

TESTIMONIALS “As longtime members of the MKA faculty, we have seen from the inside the school’s dedication to creating a welcoming and supportive place for all members of our community. Now, as parents of an MKA student, we are excited that we get to experience what the school has to offer from a new perspective. We support the Annual Fund because of all the support that MKA has offered to us as members of the faculty and as parents of a MKA student.” Deborah and Ben Goodrich P ‘28 “We believe that there is no greater investment than in our children’s education. Giving to the Annual Fund helps to facilitate some of the wonderful programs that benefit our kids and make MKA the special place that it is.”
