IRA and Retirement Plan
Limits for 2013 from the desks of Kristin Hillsley and Janney Montgomery Scott
IRA Contribution Limits
GRAND Openings Several members held ribbon cuttings in the fall.
The maximum amount you can contribute to a traditional IRA or Roth IRA in 2013 increases to $5,500 (or 100% of your earned income, if less), up from $5,000 in 2012. The maximum catch-up contribution for those age 50 or older remains at $1,000. (You can contribute to both a traditional and Roth IRA in 2013, but your total contributions can't exceed this annual limit.) Traditional IRA deduction limits for 2013 The income limits for determining the deductibility of traditional IRA contributions have also increased for 2013 (for those covered by employer retirement plans). For example, you can fully deduct your IRA contribution if your filing status is single/head of household, and your income ("modified adjusted gross income," or MAGI) is $59,000 or less (up from $58,000 in 2012). If you're married and filing a joint return, you can fully deduct your IRA contribution if your MAGI is $95,000 or less (up from $92,000 in 2012). If you're not covered by an employer plan but your spouse is, and you file a joint return, you can fully deduct your IRA contribution if your MAGI is $178,000 or less (up from $173,000 in 2012).
Chiropractic Wellness Associates opened in Norristown.
*If you're not covered by an employer plan but your spouse is, your deduction is limited if your MAGI is $178,000 to $188,000, and eliminated if your MAGI exceeds $188,000. Roth IRA contribution limits for 2013 The income limits for determining how much you can contribute to a Roth IRA have also increased. If your filing status is single/ head of household, you can contribute the full $5,500 to a Roth IRA in 2013 if your MAGI is $112,000 or less (up from $110,000 in 2012). And if you're married and filing a joint return, you can make a full contribution if your MAGI is $178,000 or less (up from $173,000 in 2012). (Again, contributions can't exceed 100% of your earned income.)
Destination XL held a grand opening of their new store in King of Prussia.
Employer Retirement Plans The maximum amount you can contribute (your "elective deferrals") to a 401(k) plan has increased for 2013. The limit (which also applies to 403(b), 457(b), and SAR-SEP plans, as well as the Federal Thrift Plan) is $17,500 in 2013 (up from $17,000 in 2012). If you're age 50 or older, you can also make catch-up contributions of up to $5,500 to these plans in 2013 (unchanged from 2012). (Special catch-up limits apply to certain participants in 403(b) and 457(b) plans.) If you participate in more than one retirement plan, your total elective deferrals can't exceed the annual limit ($17,500 in 2013 plus any applicable catch-up contribution). Deferrals to 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, SIMPLE plans, and SAR-SEPs are included in this limit, but deferrals to Section 457(b) plans are not. For example, if you participate in both a 403(b) plan and a 457(b) plan, you can defer the full dollar limit to each plan--a total of $35,000 in 2013 (plus any catch-up contributions). The amount you can contribute to a SIMPLE IRA or SIMPLE 401(k) plan has increased to $12,000 for 2013, up from $11,500 in 2012. The catch-up limit for those age 50 or older remains unchanged at $2,500.
Note: Contributions can't exceed 100% of your income. The maximum amount that can be allocated to your account in a defined contribution plan (for example, a 401(k) plan or profit-sharing plan) in 2013 is $51,000 (up from $50,000 in 2012), plus age-50 catch-up contributions. (This includes both your contributions and your employer's contributions. Special rules apply if your employer sponsors more than one retirement plan.) Finally, the maximum amount of compensation that can be taken into account in determining benefits for most plans has increased to $255,000, up from $250,000 in 2012; and the dollar threshold for determining highly compensated employees remains unchanged at $115,000.

The end of the year is an interesting time; a time to reflect on the past year, while looking forward to the next. Betzwood Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge: Beginning in early 2013 a new connection between Valley Forge National Historical Park and the Schuylkill River Trail will be established. A new, 14 foot wide bicycle and pedestrian bridge is going to be constructed in the alignment of the former Betzwood Bridge. The new bridge will replace the current crossing attached to the US 422 bridge. For those concerned that it will not alleviate traffic on US 422, the traffic that would have used a vehicular Betzwood Bridge will be accommodated on a redesigned US 422 bridge. Norristown High Speed Line Extension Study: SEPTA has begun the planning process with consultant AECOM to conduct a feasibility analysis for the extension of the Norristown High Speed Line to the King of Prussia Mall and to the King of Prussia Business Park on First Ave. The study will evaluate possible alignments, station locations, and costs associated with building the extension. Although this is only a preliminary study, the intent is to prepare documentation that will be used to secure funding through the federal and state government to pay for further design and construction. This is a snapshot of some of the more significant projects that you should pay attention to in 2013. Now, when someone asks, “what are they building”, you will have the answer. Happenings Quarterly Women's Resource Luncheon: Women, Money and Power
A woman’s role in society and the economy is constantly evolving. The days of gender inequality related to matters of investing and finance are far behind us as a woman’s role in society has advanced to the point of increasing financial decision making responsibility. Kristin Hillsley of Janney Montgomery Scott has made it her goal to empower women to overcome their financial challenges and achieve their financial goals.
Business Connections with Birth Agent Marketing
Barry Gesserman, President of BirthAgent Marketing, presented the topic: Facts and Claims vs. Belief and Trust: How to Win in any Business Climate, Normal or Not during October’s Business Connections Luncheon. The world is awash in data and accessible information, yet today’s consumers make buying decisions increasingly based on beliefs and trust, not ‘facts’ or claims. Whether selling a product or service, running a business or working in a corporation, Barry shared with attendees how to apply the three fundamental operating principles necessary stand out and win in an ever more competitive marketplace. 1. Know whom you serve, the unique value you offer, and communicate this effectively. 2. Tell them why you do what you do, and live it daily. 3. Earn their trust by displaying warmth and competency, and delivering at the moment of truth.
Attendees of the Quarterly Women’s Resource Luncheon enjoyed a dynamic presentation by Kristin Hillsley and a fabulous lunch at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in September. The next quarterly luncheon is scheduled for December 7th at Green Valley Country Club.

For the Foodie A foodie always appreciates a gift certificate to a good restaurant, and Plymouth Meeting Mall has many, from California Pizza Kitchen, Benihana and Redstone American Grill to P.F. Chang’s China Bistro. Or, create a customized gift basket from Whole Foods Market & Cafe, selecting chocolates, vanilla extract, and bakery treats for a dessert lover, or pastas, spices, and tomatoes for an Italian theme. Pick up a cookie tray or a colander from Macy’s to use as the carryall, respectively. For the Nature Lover Whether your special someone is a fly fisherman, hiking fanatic, or cyclist, Orvis, Coldwater Creek, Boscov’s, and Champs Sports at the mall have a variety of items for any nature lover. Our suggestions include a warm fleece, sturdy boots, or a top-notch fishing rod. For the Fashionista This winter, fashion is all about regal elegance, a chic take on military, and primal instincts. BECOMING THE
Optimal Salesperson
®
The Optimal Salesperson Mastering the Mindset of Sales Superstars
Re-Motivate Yourself
By Dan Caramanico Motivation is internal. Sales managers can’t motivate salespeople. They can only help the salesperson to get and stay in touch with their own internal motivation. Some people are able to stay motivated without much effort. They have a high degree of intrinsic motivation. They were programmed or trained to constantly strive to do more, be more effective, reach higher levels, etc. This is not always a good thing as these “driven” people often have trouble relaxing or enjoying the journey to success. For salespeople motivation is more often external. Since salespeople are, in large measure, paid for performance in the form of commission, we set financial goals then work to achieve them. In a sense, we set our own compensation level. The problem comes in the day-to-day grind of prospecting, rejection, proposal writing, staff meetings, and client meetings. When fighting the daily fight, ,it is easy to lose sight of why we are working and in some cases we lose sight of what we should be doing. Selling is not like other jobs where showing up is half the battle. Most doctors, lawyers, engineers, laborers, customer service people, food service workers and mostly everyone else show up and work comes at them. Salespeople have to be proactive and engage with the outside world. We have to overcome self-limiting beliefs that prevent us from being effective. So it is easy to see why we can get into a rut and just go through the motions to get through the days and weeks. After all, it is never a crisis to prospect for new business today … until it is probably too late to do anything about it that is! Sounds grim doesn’t it? But you can change all of that in a very short time. When was the last time you revisited your personal goals? For most salespeople I ask, it has been a while. And I am not just talking about reminding yourself that your goal is to get a house at the beach. I am talking about reconnecting with the reasons why you want the house at the beach – the underlying emotional reason. It is important to remind yourself how you will feel when you get to the goal. In a very real sense your motivation to do the things you need to do will come from that emotional connection to the things or lifestyle that you want for yourself or your family. Is it a sense of accomplishment, fulfillment, duty? If it is just a “box you checked” on the goal setting form your manager gave you, it won’t move you to action. But if it is something you and your spouse have talked about, and dreamed about and you can’t wait to host some summer parties for your friends or you want your kids to grow up with something you never had. That will get you excited and be a compelling enough reason to put the extra effort in to do the difficult tasks that top earners must do. Re-motivate yourself by reconnecting in an emotional way with your goals. Dan Caramanico is a salesforce development expert and he is the author of The Optimal Salesperson® One of Selling power’s top ten books for 2010 and Optimal Selling, Sales Conversations of the Optimal Salesperson. Are You E-Verifying
Your Employees?
by Sandhya M. Feltes
A new law enacted in Pennsylvania on July 5, 2012 creates new employee verification requirements for all public works contracts. On July 5, 2012, Pennsylvania Gov. Thomas Corbett signed the Public Works Employment Verification Act into law. Starting January 1, 2013 all contractors, subcontractors and staffing companies providing services on public works projects of more than $25,000 will be required to E-Verify their employees. Public works projects are those which involve construction, reconstruction, demolition, alteration and/or repair and which are paid for in whole or in part from public funds. E-verify in a free internet based system maintained and administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Employers must input employee personal information (such as date of birth and social security number) into the E-Verify system. The employee information is then compared to DHS and the Social Security Administration records to confirm employee eligibility. In a vast majority of the cases, confirmation of employee eligibility will be provided through the E-Verify system electronically within seconds. It is estimated that approximately two percent of submissions, however, may take two to four weeks for a response due to discrepancies in the data. Employers are not allowed to hire or take adverse employment actions against employees during this time period. In Pennsylvania, once an employer has received confirmation of the employee’s eligibility through the E-Verify system, the employer must complete and sign, under penalty of perjury, an E-Verify usage certification form verifying that the employer has enrolled in the E-Verify system and has confirmed that all employees are eligible to work on the public works project. The certification form will be available online by the Pennsylvania Department of General Services before the end of this year. An employer who fails to verify em-

ployment eligibility through E-Verify or fails to provide the verification form can be subject to a warning letter from DGS for a first violation and debarment from public works for subsequent violations. An employer can also be subject to civil penalties, ranging from $250 to $1,000 for each violation, for failing to use the verification form or for making false statements on the form. Questions remain regarding DGS’s enforcement mechanisms and procedures. However, now is the time to prepare for the new E-Verify requirements. Employers should visit the E-Verify homepage at www.uscis.gov. There, employers can review the federally required Memorandum of Understanding and find links for free webinars on the E-Verify system. by Scott C. Butler, Esquire months at the beginning of the term and, in consideration therefor, the tenant will pay for the build-out of its premises.
In order to fill vacant spaces in commercial buildings, a high risk, financially weak tenant may be a landlord’s only option. In negotiating a lease with such a tenant, however, a landlord must be careful to minimize the risk associated with the increased potential for a tenant default early in the term. Landlords should be cautious not to incur an expensive build-out cost for such a lease or pay a high risk tenant a substantial tenant improvement allowance. In the alternative, the landlord could provide the tenant with free rent for one or more of the
Landlords should also negotiate for guarantees from the owners of the tenant. In Pennsylvania, it is important for any guaranty to also be executed by the guarantors’ spouses; otherwise, the landlord will not be able to collect against any jointly held assets. If there is resistance from the tenant to provide such guarantees, the parties can negotiate for a guaranty limited to the amount that the landlord incurred in constructing the premises or paid as an allowance, as well as a portion of the rent. If agreeing to a limited guaranty, the landlord should provide that such limitation will only be effective if the tenant voluntarily gives back the premises to the landlord and does not legally defend any eviction action. Additionally, landlords should negotiate for a security deposit to offset the amount of the construction costs and allowance in the event of a tenant default. The amount of this security deposit could be reduced during the term of the lease in the same proportion as the construction costs and allowance is amortized during the length of the term. If the tenant does not have sufficient cash to pay such a security deposit, the landlord could accept a letter of credit as a security deposit, so long as the letter of credit is unconditional and the landlord has the right to present the letter of credit for payment and use the proceeds thereof to cure any tenant default. Although the credit of a tenant should be considered in every lease, landlords can be creative and lease to high risk tenants and still be protected. Hand Washing & Flu
Prevention
Hand Hygiene: Stop the spread of germs that make you and others sick! About 80% of infectious diseases are transmitted by touch; germs are either present on surfaces, in the air, or in bodily fluids like mucus, eye discharge, and saliva. People who are not immune to these germs come in contact with them through touch, and that point of contact leads to infection. This very easily happens when unclean hands touch surfaces like doorknobs or faucet handles that were previously touched by someone carrying the flu or another illness.
be! Along with frequent hand washing, yearly flu vaccinations are highly encouraged for all. Yearly vaccination is mostly recommended because flu viruses change constantly; therefore, vaccinations are updated each year to accommodate several strains of the virus. The people most at risk for flu are young children, pregnant women, adults over 65 years of age, and those with chronic conditions like asthma, heart or lung disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends three main “action” points for preventing the flu this season: 1. Take the time to get a flu vaccine. Visit Montcopa.org/health for a list of the Montgomery County Health Department’s free flu clinics. 2. Take every day preventative actions (like HAND WASHING) to stop the spread of germs. This includes avoiding contact with those who are sick, and also limiting contact with others when you are sick. 3. Take flu antiviral drugs if your doctor prescribes them. If you do get the flu, it is proven that antiviral drugs work best if started within 2 days of getting sick. For more detailed information regarding influenza, please visit: http://www.cdc.gov/flu For local information in your community please visit: www.montcopa.org/health
Hand washing is the easiest and most effective way for people of all ages to prevent the spread of infection and illness in all settings; home, school, office, daycare, and healthcare facilities. We are often so busy that we simply forget the most important task in keeping good health: washing our hands properly! Here’s how! • Wet hands with warm water & apply soap • Vigorously rub hands together for at least 20 seconds -- don’t forget to wash your wrists, between your fingers, and under your fingernails • Rinse off soap and thoroughly dry hands • If you are in a public restroom, try to shut the faucet off and open the restroom door with a paper towel on your way out Your hands are the biggest transportation center for spreading germs. Therefore it is important to wash your hands frequently throughout the day and before/after certain activities: • Before, during, and after food preparation • Before/after eating • After using the restroom • After touching pets/animals, feeding animals, or removing animal waste • After sneezing, blowing your nose, or coughing • After changing diapers or assisting a child in the restroom • After touching garbage • Before/after treating cuts or wounds • Before/after caring for someone who is sick If you are not near a sink, either gel hand sanitizer or alcohol-based hand wipes are a great alternative to hand washing. The alcohol in both sanitizers and hand wipes will kill the germs on your hands without using soap and water. Just rub your hands together until they are dry and clean!

Mercy Health System
OPENS New Health Center
On Tuesday, September 18, 2012, Mercy Health System and Mercy Suburban Hospital stepped into the future of health care with an exciting, new, full-service health care facility— the first of its kind in the Northeast. The Mercy Health Center at Plymouth Meeting Mall is a two-story, 23,500-square-foot medical and wellness destination that provides patients with quick and easy access to a wide range of health services. These include primary care physicians and specialists, diagnostic imaging (MRI, ultrasound and x-ray), physical therapy, a lab draw station as well as a walk-in clinic, which provides immediate health services for nagging issues or for health problems without an appointment. In addition to the primary care physicians, the physician specialties that are housed at the new ambulatory site are: • Cardiologists • Bariatrics (weight loss surgery) • Orthopedists • General Surgery • Gynecologists “The whole idea of the health center is to cut down all the barriers and mold everything into one smooth transition,” said Mercy Health Center Medical Director Edward O’Dell. “It’s the convenience of not having to go to another place or make another phone call and sit on hold and everything is right here for you. For medical imaging, for example, the usual way it’s done is you go to your physician, get your prescription, call the radiology center and make an appointment for four days later. Here, you see the doctor, you get the test ordered and you have results pretty quickly in a few days. It’s the whole continuum and it’s right here at the mall.” “This Mercy health Center is just one step in fulfilling our Vision for community based care where compassion, accessibility and quality health services intersect,” said David Clark, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mercy Health System. The Center is open 7 days a week, with most insurances accepted. She was inspired by her mother and father, teachers and mentors and developed a powerful work ethics with a sense of community. She remembers her schooling and experiences she had and considers herself fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with every age group from small children to senior citizens. She recalls Fridays as her greatest days because elderly ladies would come from a particular Retirement Home and the stories of the Elderly ladies were heartwarming and amazing. Prepare
Your Feet NOW for Next Summer! By Nicholas Pagano, DPM Did you spend this summer wishing you could wear your favorite sandals? But you wouldn’t dare expose your toes because your nails were discolored and thick? Don’t spend another minute hiding in your shoes! NOW is the time to fix the problem for next year. Be forewarned, there is no quick fix to eliminating toenail fungus. By the time it is noticeable on your nails, it has been in your body for months. Treatment is going to take just as long to rid you of the fungus. Where did it come from? A fungal toenail infection can be picked up in many common places... pools, showers, gyms, even your own home. It can come from skin infections like athletes foot or jock itch. Trauma or an injury to your nail can also cause a fungal infection. Because fungus loves to grow in dark, wet, and warm places, your shoes are an ideal breeding ground. In the perfect environment, fungal infections are highly contagious.
product. If you notice peeling, itchiness, redness, pain, or an odor, don’t ignore it. Make an appointment to see your podiatrist. While some feel that fungal nails are embarrassing, they are actually an extremely common problem. Unfortunately, everyone waits until the weather warms up before they come to see me. Don’t make that same mistake. Treat your fungal toenails now, and next summer you will be showing off your toes in your favorite sandals!
I think I may have this... but what does it look like? Toenail fungus causes a change in the color of the nail, often to a yellow or green tint. You may also notice a change in the shape of the nail. In advanced cases, the nail will thicken and debris will form underneath. Uh oh!!! Now what can I do? There are a variety of treatments available. Prescription strength topical medicines can be effective for moderate cases and must be used daily for 6-12 months. There are also oral medications. These should be discussed with your podiatrist to weigh the risks vs. benefits. The newest treatment at Barking Dogs Foot and Ankle Care is laser therapy. A painless laser is applied to the nail and directly kills the fungus. The appearance of your nail changes as the fungal nail grows out and the new, healthy nail comes in. Laser therapy yields the same results as the oral medication without any of the risks or side effects. Now that I’ve treated my fungal toenails, how do I keep it from coming back? Prevention is key. If you have any other infections, make sure to treat them quickly. Practice good hygiene with your feet, keeping them clean and dry, especially between the toes. Pay attention to your shoes. Make sure they are clean and dry them out between wears. Even consider spraying your shoes with an antibacterial/anti-fungal

MOBILE apps vs. MOBILE WEBSITES What's Best for Your Business?
Astute Internet observers know by now that the future of the web is mobile. More and more consumers will access data and information via smartphones, tablets and other portable devices. So businesses need to prepare by beefing up their presences on the mobile web. But is it better to get started by creating a mobile-optimized website or by building a standalone mobile app? A mobile app is faster, more interactive and can integrate with all kinds of other phone features. But the app must be installed to be of any use at all, while a good mobile site can simply be navigated to on a user’s whim. It’s also typically cheaper to build a mobile site, and you don’t have to deal with any pesky approval hassles. Mobile apps are becoming more and more popular with Internet users, however. Two years ago, users spent an average of about 20 or more minutes per day on browser-based sites than mobile apps. By last December, that relationship had flipped, and mobile apps were outpacing browser-based sites by more than 20 minutes per day. Maybe the answer to what to develop first is embedded in what type of service you’re looking to provide. Studies have shown Internet users prefer mobile browsers for shopping, searching and entertainment. But they prefer mobile apps for managing data, navigation and connecting with So, What is right for you? An App or Mobile Website? others. The answer is BOTH. By Sam Laird The advertising agency MDG pulled data from sources including Flurry Analytics, ComScore and others to create the infographic below. Check it out for the fuller picture of how mobile apps and mobile sites compare. (Submitted Copy)

Complementing this new retail roster, several King of Prussia favorites have expanded within the Plaza. Forever 21, which opened in early October in the redeveloped space, built a 38,000 square-foot store, and the Apple store, slated to open in early December, will expand to almost 10,000 square feet. Both spaces serve as the largest for either tenant in the region. Another King of Prussia staple, H&M, has moved to a bi-level space adjacent to the mall’s Rite Aid entrance, more than doubling its previous footprint. To help navigate the busy holiday season (and all the new retailer options), King of Prussia will be offering several holiday conveniences to make for an enjoyable and stressfree experience, including the holiday courtesy shuttle; a mobile application and daily social media updates; retail deals available on the mall’s website; and convenient options for purchasing a King of Prussia Mall American Express Gift Card. What You NEED TO KNOW
About Skin Cancer and Sun Damage Q: Now that summer is over, do I still need to worry about skin cancer? Unfortunately, many people think the end of summer means the end of sun-ray damage. It isn't possible or practical to avoid sunlight completely, and it would be unwise to reduce your level of activity to avoid the outdoors because physical activity is important for good health. The fall and winter sunshine can often lead to more damage because many people stop wearing protective clothing and sunscreen. But here are some steps you can take to limit your exposure to UV rays. The American Cancer Society has coined a catch phrase, "Slip! Slop! Slap! Wrap" that can help you remember the 4 key steps you can take to protect yourself from UV rays ALL YEAR ROUND: Slip on a shirt, Slop on sunscreen, Slap on a hat, and Wrap on sunglasses to protect the eyes and sensitive skin around them. These steps complement each other, and they provide the best protection when used together.
torso or the head and neck area. In women, melanoma often develops on the lower legs as well as on the torso.
The ABCD's of Melanoma
Since early detection greatly improves one's chances of surviving melanoma, you should examine your skin every six to eight weeks. The best time to do this is after a bath or shower, standing in front of a full-length mirror. The simple ‘ABCD’ approach is a useful guide to help you identify moles you should show your dermatologist. (see illustration) If you notice an odd-looking mole or marking, contact your dermatologist as soon as possible. He or she will take a complete medical history and give you a physical examination. If your dermatologist also thinks the mole or marking looks unusual, a procedure known as a biopsy will be performed. You can call us for a COMPLIMENTARY Skin Cancer exam. Dr. Mash is happy to answer your personal questions. Contact her at: drmmash@drmarlenemash.com, or visit her website at: www. DrMarleneMash.com. Marlene J. Q. Sounds simple but how do I know which sunscreen to use? The American Academy of Dermatology recommends everyone use sunscreen that offers the following: - Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA and UVB rays). - Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 or greater. - Water resistance. In June of this year, the FDA released new guidelines that all manufacturers must follow to provide you with more information about what type of UV protection a sunscreen offers, and what a sunscreen can do. Q. What are those guidelines? On the label, you’ll see whether the sunscreen: protects against UVB and/or UVA rays; reduces the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging in addition to helping prevent sunburn, or just protects against sunburn alone.; and they can no longer claim that a sunscreen is “waterproof” or “sweat proof.” This is not possible because all sunscreen eventually washes off. The FDA requires that all sunscreens retain their original strength for at least three years. Some sunscreens include an expiration date. If the expiration date has passed, throw out the sunscreen. Q. How can I recognize skin cancer? The most dangerous form of skin cancer is melanoma, and it begins in a type of skin cell called a melanocyte. The main cause of melanoma is thought to be the sun, through exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Melanoma can appear suddenly as a new mole or it can develop slowly in or near an existing mole. In men, melanomas are often found on the

One Stop Shopping for
Insurance Products
NORRISTOWN, Pennsylvania (11/08/2012) -- Deciding which insurance company to buy your coverage from or trust with your property is becoming more complicated every day. "Everyone has unique needs and requirements for insurance coverage and every company offers a variety of options," said Shirish Kokatay, a Farmers agent in Norristown. "Farmers can simplify the insurance buying experience by providing one-stop shopping for auto, home, life and business insurance products." Farmers' auto coverage includes towing and roadside service for a small fee. This service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year through a toll-free number. An auto glass replacement program is available to auto customers for repairing and replacing damaged or broken auto glass. A young driver education program is available to auto customers which may include discounts for good students. Good driver discounts, auto/home, and multi-car discounts may also be available. In addition to Farmers' traditional homeowners’ insurance product line, individuals can purchase insurance coverages while renting, for condominiums and townhouses, and for mobile homes. Farmers agents are trained to work with customers to help avoid gaps or overlaps in coverages.

INFORMATION
Security
This article focuses on the security of physical items such as paper, flash drives, or discs that contain valuable company information. Customer lists, price lists, marketing plans, salary structure, manufacturing processes, contracts and R&D are some of the varied types of records that fall within the scope of proprietary information. This article discusses secure storage and destruction of confidential information as well as the business culture that must be developed to keep information protected. Paper records containing proprietary information can be stored securely in many ways. Keep in mind that the manner in which your information is secured may be questioned in court if you're involved in a law suit concerning information that was misappropriated from your company. The more safely information is secured, the better you can prove the value it has to your company. Safes and lockable file cabinets are normally used by a small business to secure paper records. A safe should have a UL Rating that indicates how long it takes to breach it using drills or other tools. A safe should also have a fire rating that indicates the temperatures it can withstand. And, depending on size, weight and office configuration, the safe should be bolted to a strong anchor (such as a concrete floor) so it can't be removed. An ordinary lockable file cabinet is satisfactory for most business paperwork, but it can be easily breached by even a slightly determined criminal. There are heavy duty file cabinets that approach being vaults. They are secure and more expensive. Use a lockable file cabinet that utilizes a locking bar and padlock. Most common file cabinets can be fitted with a locking bar that enhances security. You can find several types of locking bars, and tutorials on how to install them, through a quick Google search. The most common way to destroy paper records is with a shredder. Shredders are relatively inexpensive, depending on the features they have. Prices increase with the number of sheets that can be shredded at one time, the size of the basket and the speed it shreds (usually listed as a feet per minute ratio). Additional features include the ability to destroy discs or credit cards and the ability to tolerate staples and paper clips. The ideal shredder will cross cut (or micro cut or diamond cut, etc) the document. Documents shredded into strips can be reconstructed. There are also document shredding services available. You can have documents shredded on site (the service will bring an industrial shredder in a truck) or you can have your documents picked up and destroyed at the service's location. These services are convenient, but before you use one, consider how your documents will be shredded and disposed of. Also, is the service licensed, bonded or insured, and do they provide any means for you to confirm destruction. You may also want to inquire about their employee selection process. Your business culture toward documents containing proprietary information is important as well. Do your employees understand the importance of protecting company information? Does upper management reinforce proper secure storage and destruction through example and clear policies concerning proprietary information? Or, does everyone just put important documents in their desk drawer without a thought? Remember, if you fail to properly secure a document, a court of law could conclude that the information it contains is not proprietary. Be smart! Design and implement a clear policy on classifying, storing, and destroying your company's proprietary and valuable information. For more information or help with designing an efficient information security program, call The Security Advisors for a free consultation. (610-277-7700 or gordon.associates@thesecurityadvisors.com).
